I love baseball but could careless about the billionaires vs. the millionaires lockout.

The players want more money, the owners want to spend less.

The Nats offered Juan Soto $350 mil over 13 years, Soto turned it down.

That pretty much sums it all up.

I can't understand the economics of being able to pay a single player that much money. I don't watch a lot of baseball these days but on the rare occasion that I come across a Nats, Orioles, or Pirates game, the stands are half empty most nights. How many tickets would they have to sell to pay the salary of one $350 million player? The entire season attendance probably wouldn't cover it for a small market team. They must make a ton of money from TV but the ratings are awful as well. So it doesn't make sense where they come up with it. They are apparently proposing to cut back on the number of minor league players but the salaries of those guys are like a grain of sand on the beach.

Well Al, if they cut the scheduled amount of games that means the Orioles will not lose a 100 games this year!!🤣

Banning the defensive shift is a move in the right direction for baseball. The pitch clock doesn't work if the intent is to shorten the game. It's going to take some more radical move but at least they are trying.

The Trevor Bauer saga drags on and on in LA. I can understand a suspending a player under these circumstances but once law enforcement concludes there will be no criminal charges, how can they just indefinitely keep a guy from playing? If he committed an illegal act, the cops should throw in jail. If not, then at some point the guy has to be allowed to play or there has be some resolution of his status. I think MLB is hoping the Dodgers release him and no one signs him.

The Dodgers have a ton of pressure on them to win it all. They have gone full out win now mode. Hopefully that works out more like the Rams than the Lakers who did the same.

So far, for us Phillies fans, the Kyle Schwarber acquisition looks like it produces the dividends the front office expected. A lead-off home run, a walk and score, so far in the home opener against the A's. Cautiously optimistic.

Prost!
Brad

A PS - I just realized that I'm 60 posts away from my 10,000th post!

Also, I'm 7 minutes away from logging out of my work network, and then I can have a beer while I listen to the rest of the game.

Prost!

The media-proclaimed greatest team of all time got off to a bumpy start. My Dodgers looked more like the Bad News Bears in Colorado. Only 159 games to turn it around! Hopefully they don't become the 2022 Lakers 2.0 with an all-star lineup but little league results.

Trevor Bauer has been placed in apparent indefinite limbo by MLB. He is still getting paid but has been on administrative leave for a year. This despite the DA confirming months ago that there would be no charges against him after investigating the allegation. Incredible that they can just suspend someone based on an allegation even after the authorities confirm there will be no charges must less a conviction. If he committed a crime, the authorities should have prosecuted him. Otherwise its time to let him play.

There were only 3,700 fans at the A's and Orioles game yesterday in Oakland.

Actually that's a lot considering how much of a dump the A's play in, not to mention how cold it gets there in April.

Plus look who they played.

Thanks.........if someone has a problem with what I write, then here's a solution; don't read it.

The A's are dead last in payroll, under 50 million, the Yankees spend that a year on high tech cameras in center field and binoculars.

There is a salary cap that you can spend up to, there should also be a minimum you can spend down to, less than 50 million on about 25 players is pathetic.

The idea was floated to move them to Vegas; imagine all these pro teams in the gambling capitol of America, what could go wrong? Plus, I can't see anyway they can draw people for 81 dates.

In the Summer.

It would have to be one of those sterile indoor facilities.

Baseball was meant to be played outdoors on grass.

Period.

It sounds like the A's ownership is trying to shakedown the taxpayers to pay for a new stadium. So they are basically taking a dive on the fans until it gets done. Not one penny of taxpayer money should ever be given to these billionaire owners. Talk about socialism. The handouts and bailouts of these folks is criminal. Dan Snyder is pulling that same stunt with his Deadskins. I can't understand how politicians are fooled by this bait and switch. They claim these stadiums offer jobs etc. Bull. Nothing compared to the handouts. Only the dirty politicians and billionaire owners ever come out ahead in these deals. I would let the stadium fall to the ground before dolling out a penny. The partnership with gambling money is also going to come back to bite professional sports. That is fraught with risk that players and refs are going to be on the take. Just too much money on the line for it to have no impact.

Well my Orioles have found some pitching in these early series so far!! as the O's have one of the best ERA staff, .buttttt....at the bottom of runs scored 🤬 poor Orioles can't catch a break, with all the young talent on the farm clubs hopefully some better bats can be called up soon, because if the offense stays in this form, a long season will be a understatement.

Similar to when Krafty Bob shook down the state of MA regarding his new stadium, he threatened to move the team to CT (staged some phony baloney ground breaking ceremony) unless the state of MA ponied up some dough for infrastructure around the stadium......why should the state pay for that, yet they did and the swell fella that Krafty Bob is, he stayed in MA and stiffed CT............then he bought the old racetrack in the area for pennies on the dollar, built a new stadium, then a massive hotel, shops and restaurants, he makes a small fortune every Sunday and throughout the year...............thanks to the state of MA caving in.

What a system.

So after the Cubs destroyed the Pirates 21-0 yesterday, they re-aired the game last on TV around 10:30 PM. Imagine the audience for that beatdown.
