I always wondered if gift cards were promoted in part because they realize some people will lose them or not use them? There are probably millions in profits from unused cards. My kids get them and misplace them all the time. I can understand the efficiencies of the cashless approach but it doesn't work for everyone. I don't even have a personal cell phone. I went to the airport a few months ago and they asked for my boarding pass when I checked in. I said isn't that something you give me? They charged me $5 to print it. Unreal.

I remember when gift cards would decrease in value over time. States started passing laws to stop that practice.

Your experience at the airport must have been a local thing. We had boarding passes printed at an airport last week and there wasn't a fee. Maybe they just hadn't heard of that rip off yet.

Enough with the shock on ESPN and MLB Network regarding the Dodgers, Mets and Yankees winning games.

They are 1, 2 and 3 among payrolls with a combined total of over $600 mil.

The MLB season is long.

Yet for some teams the season is close to 1/4 complete. It seems like just yesterday was opening day.

Time flies…….

Yankees/Dodgers in the World Series will be the next hot take from both networks.

The gashouse gorillas look unstoppable, they're in line for their second WS title this century.

What a great story; no wonder baseball is the national pastime.

Hey, the Red Sox are out of the AL East basement.

Baby steps.

News flash...It's a good summer to be a baseball fan in NYC, not so much in DC or Balmer.

ESPN ran a story about the demise of the Nats last week.

When they mentioned Washington’s WS win was in 2019 I did a double take.

That championship seems like it happened 10 years ago.

Yep. Pre-covid, then everything changed. Seems ages ago. The team is totally different with the exception of Soto and one or two others, depending on who's on the IL. -- Al

Ok..ok....after it seems forever the Orioles FINALLY win a series over the Rays!! Not buying any playoff tickets just yet, but the young O's seem to be competing and making things interesting...now let's take the next Series against the evil Yanks.

The Giants are scoring runs like crazy and playing really good baseball.

Yet they remain in 3rd place in the NL West.

The Dodgers are at an incredible +124 runs scored over opponents after about only 40 games, but they are only 2 games ahead of SD who are at +26 runs. That means when the Dodgers are winning, they are scoring a ton of runs.

I am done with the Giants for now.
Agreed. Kapler shouldn't be mixing politics with baseball. I seem to remember another player from a SF football team that tried mixing politics with sports... -- Al

Basically, it's an attention getting publicity grab. He wouldn't be doing this in many other places. I'm sure he is being treated like a hero in SF. Can never be fired without claiming it was in retaliation for his views etc. Tiresome.

Fun with numbers: This is an odd one relating to the Nats. Martinez took over the Nats in 2018 and promptly turned the 2017 East Division winners into a .500 team that missed the playoffs. 2019 went better (after a slow start, more on that later) as the Nats won the WS title, although I'm not willing to give Martinez much credit for this. I believe he was just in the right place at the right time as the Nats caught fire, rode such hot players as Scherzer, Strasburg, Soto, Kendrick, Parra, etc., to the title. Now, for the number anomaly. If the Nats win tonight's game against the Mets, they will have reached the 50 game mark with a 19-31 record. It will be the 3rd time in the last 4 seasons they have gone 19-31 in their first 50 games (last season, 2021, they were slightly better at 21-29, basically the same record though, and certainly the same last place spot). Martinez has established himself as a very mediocre manager that buries his team out of the gate (2019 being the outlier). That said, Martinez was not served well by the ownership or front office during the off season prior to 2022. The team was dismantled at the sell-off in 2021 and nothing much was done to improve or even maintain a competitive level. A rebuild is needed and Martinez isn't the guy to lead it and it also looks like the Lerner family won't be owners very much longer after all the posturing about how they would never, ever sell the team. I'm feeling a might irritated. -- Al

OK, Mets lead 12-4 in the 5th so it appears the Nats will go 18-32. This is even worse, meaning the Nats have started 19-31, 19-31, 21-29, and 18-32 over the last 4 seasons. Doomed from the start.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The white hot Red Sox lost 3 of 5 to the last place LET'S GO O'S!!.............honest to Christ, if Baltimore played the Red Sox 81 times a year, they would have won 5 WS titles since 2011, what a monumentally annoying pain in the *** ants at a picnic last place broken toilet of a team they are.

Infuriating.

But the Celtics are going to the NBA finals AGAIN............so really, who gives a rats *** about baseball.

Not sure why the Orioles play the Sox so tough?? But then lose 17 of 19 to the Bluejays 🤣 but my young O's are competing this year so far, some good young talent is starting to pay off, be nice not to lose a 100 games this year!! Good luck the Celtics George, things are back to normal it seems, Covid-19 disappearing and a Boston team in a Championship series ;)

I hate to say it but the Celtics are a solid team. No big superstars. Just a complete team of ball players. That is going to be a good series. I have a soft spot for the Warriors, though, dating back to Wilt Chamberlain in Philly and then Rick Barry and his "granny" free throws. Clifford Ray also once saved a dolphin by removing an obstruction from its throat with his plastic man-like arms! Something you learn on old basketball cards. And at least your Red Sox are not playing like the Braves. Sinking like the Titanic after Freeman fled for the mighty Dodgers!

They finally got over the ECF hump and are in the finals; no pressure, house money and all that, getting past the Bucks and the Heat made me happy, we'll see how things shake out.

I can't hate on Golden State, they've always been my Western Conference team, like the Giants are my NL team, Curry is my favorite non Celtic, Durant is a close second, love that guy, wish he stayed with Golden State, he's an assassin.................
