Rumors are out there the Orioles might be headed to Tennessee in the future...it wouldn't surprise one bit, the Fans hate the owner Peter Angelos who has destroyed a once proud tradition of good baseball over the years to one of the worst teams in baseball consistently, hard to put fans in the stands one of the most beautiful ballparks in baseball, I hope the rumors aren't true, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Mayflower vans pulling up this off season

Rumors resulting from a power struggle at the top of ownership, family member suing family member over control. Don't think the O's will ever leave but, then again, that whole Colts sneaking out of town kind of caught me by surprise, so... -- Al

TN has a great fan base but I can't see the O's heading there. They are old school and should stay put. Things will eventually turn around. Maybe move one of the hapless Florida teams who can't draw any fans.

This just in from the "Kiss of Death Department"...John Angelos, O's Chairman and CEO, has stated that the O's 'will never leave Baltimore'. Uh oh... -- Al

I'm waiting for Phillies fans to call for Rob Thompson's head now, since the winning streak ended with a whimper yesterday, after nine in a row.

Prost!

I know I've mentioned it before, but it sure is a great year to be a NY baseball fan. With the Yanks at 45-16 and the Mets at 41-22, they own the two best records in MLB, and both are leading their divisions by large margins, although both play in divisions with other good teams and it is a bit early to concede titles. Both teams won by shutout last night, marking the 10th time each team has won by shutout, that figured leading MLB, of course. Both teams have great pitching and with the Mets on the verge of getting Scherzer and DeGrom back, that will only improve. Judge is having an MVP year. It will not be a complete surprise to me to see the fabled 'Subway Series' this fall. Actually, I quite expect just that, though I rather imagine the Dodgers and Astros might want some input on that. -- Al

Astros become 1st team in MLB history to throw 2 immaculate innings in same game

Thought that pretty impressive when I saw it come across the board on the MLB channel. I also got tied up watching the Dodgers Anderson take a no-hitter into the 9th before Ohtani broke it up. Angels still lost and are now 2-18 in their last 20 games and have fallen 10.5 games behind division leading Houston. They sure have fallen far and fast. Meanwhile, the red-hot Red Sox have won 8 0f their last 10 but have lost ground to the NYY's who have won 13 of their last 14. -- Al

Al...probably no other sport in the world...soccer...football...basketball...golf...hockey...etc...
tracks old stats and history like baseball analysts and fanatics do...
this is a by product of studying baseball and deeply considered by managers in making game time decisions...
always referring to stats...
the history of stats in baseball well documented and is un-Godly rich...

Yep. One could take a fan/player/manager from the late 19th Century and drop them into today's game and they would not be completely lost as the basics, strategies, and goals of the game remain basically the same. Consistency and tradition of the game still have a place today, despite recent changes/updates. -- Al

I have never seen scheduling like this before...does this happen often?

Astros start on a road series Thursday...

4 game series at Yankees...

then while they are still in NY...

followed by 2 game series at Mets...

then...
a 1 game series in Houston against Yankees...

the Yankees getting 4 at home...
then 2 days later just 1 in Houston...

that seems weird to me...

if the Yankees were on a Texas road trip and played the Rangers while here...
it would make a little sense...

but it seems unfair that they get 4 at home and only 1 on the road against the Astros...

is this customary in scheduling?

a 3-2 split on home games seems more fair to me...

I go on this site that has the record of every player who ever played.I like looking at some of the player's records as I followed baseball passionately in the 60's-80's and it's fun to look at their records. I can't believe it's 40-50 years since these guys played and a lot are in their 80's now.Time sure flies. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/allendi01.shtml

Did anyone watch "After Jackie"? I thought it was pretty interesting. When I was 10-11 years old I did not know all the troubles the black players went through. All I knew was they were great ballplayers. They weren't black or white or Hispanic to me.They were Phillies,Yankees ,Cardinals,Reds, etc.to me.

This is a fantastic site and it is the one I use the most on the internet. I am on it every day. Just this AM I was checking out Pirate pitchers that I followed as a youngster, names such as Friend, Bunning, Veale, etc. I would be still be using the heck out of the old Baseball Encyclopedia if it weren't for this much more user friendly and constantly updating site. -- Al

I was looking at some of the pitching records the other night and some of them are unbelievable. It's hard to believe these guys use to pitch complete games.^&grin

Completely agree. My big hero as a kid, besides Mantle and Unitas, was SF's Juan Marichal. The man started 457 games and completed 244 (with a career 243-142 W/L record) of them, including 52 shutouts. But that's all back when pitchers were real pitchers and finished what they started. :wink2: -- Al

Marichal, Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Alou brothers. S.F. had quite a team back then.

And don't forget Gaylord Perry, who could doctor the ball seven ways from Sunday, and get away with it. Another HoFer and a pitcher with 303 complete games. What a terrific team those 60's Giants had. -- Al

Congrats to the Astros, they used 3 pitchers who tossed a combined no hitter today vs the Gashouse Gorillas............yanking a guy throwing a no no, glad it worked out, but that's sort of unusual.

Good job by Houston taking 2 of 3 so far, lost a heartbreaker on Thursday or else they'd be going for a sweep tomorrow.

Gotta give that organization credit, they keep losing key players but chug along, been a very good team for a long time.
