The Dodgers caved to the woke pressure and let Bauer go even though it will cost them $22 million. An incredible disservice to the team and their fans. They release a great pitcher because of allegations which law enforcement investigated and concluded provided no grounds to prosecute. In fact, the entire scenario was shown to be a set up to blackmail Bauer. But those are the days we live in. I doubt any other team will sign him. His career is done based on an allegation. It's a dangerous time in which someone can be blacklisted like in the McCarthy days.

You’re overstating it a bit. He’s far from a great pitcher; he’s had a couple of good, but not great, seasons. The standard for prosecution is different than suspension; arbitrator upheld the basis for the suspension but reduced its length. If Watson can find a job (and his actions seem just as bad as Bauer’s), I’m sure he will be pitching this year. I’m grateful he signed with LA, not the Mets.

The Mets are the clear winners in this year’s free agency and off-season.

Steve Cohen said he was going to spend money when he bought the team and he has held true to that promise.

I am not sure that spending will lead to a championship, but a tip of the cap for following through.

It all depends if they sign Correa, which is a 50 50 proposition. Although Cohen is wealthy he didn’t get that way by throwing money away unnecessarily. If they don’t sign him, all they’ve done is maintain themselves offensively, which may not be good enough considering the improvements the Phillies made and that the Braves are still the best team in the division. The one upside is that it would allow Brett Baty, a top prospect, to prove himself at 3B. Pitching wise they’ve probably improved so that should be less of a concern right now.

Brad:

As usual, great post.

When it comes to baseball you have to spend to compete, and you have to spend wisely to actually win a WS.

As of today, it looks like Correa may be headed back to Minnesota.

The Correa saga was one of the strangest things I have seen in free agency.

The Giants’ and Mets’ deals fell through based on physicals but the Twins had no problem giving him $200mil?
