Fans are in an uproar over Bogaerts going to SD, 11 years/280 million............RS offered him 6/162, that's 27 million a year over 6 years, he turned it down, SD stepped in and backed a dump truck full of money on his doorstep, so that was that.

Whatever.

Ownership here has a stance; they are not going to overpay to keep players, very unBoston like, but winning 4 WS titles in 14 years will do that to you.

I love how fans decide how ownership should spend their money, the RS have not one, but two very, very good young shortstops in the minors, sign a guy to fill in for a couple of years and go from there.

Plus they have Story who's a shortstop, stick him over at SS for a couple of years and sign a second baseman if need be.

The AL East is loaded, even the LET'S GO O'S!! look good, so maybe just lay in the weeds for a few years, reload and give it another shot.

I'm not all torqued off over this, Bogaerts is good, but he's not a superstar/MVP type, Betts for all the ballwashing he gets has basically sucked in the post season, good for him he puts up huge numbers vs tomato cans in the regular season, he's won a whopping one WS title since he left Boston in that phony baloney 60 game COVID season, talk about a championship with a huge * next to it........................

Rodon to the NYY's for 6 years and $162 million. Good lord, the rich get richer. NYY's rotation is overflowing. -- Al

That’s around $27 MM per year although some of that may be deferred and backloaded to the end to reduce AAV. If he does well enough with NY, he’d probably be in line for another big contract a la Verlander.

That seems a lot of money for a pitcher with 56 career wins, but he does seem to have hit his stride the last 2 years. I shoulda been a ballplaya. {sm3} -- Al

Money is flowing freely these days, accelerating the division between the haves and have nots.

Good for the Yankees.

They seem to win the offseason every year.

They haven't been to a world series in 13 years, which proves championships are won on the field, not on paper.

They still have to get past the Astros; Bon Chance with that.

George, just as a matter of baseball history, 2023 will mark the 100th Anniversary of the NYY's first World Series title. We all know how things went from there. Lightning could strike again for the next 80 or so years, not that I will be concerned with the last 70 years of that run.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Yankees are currently in a championship window, so they are going for it, resigning Judge, now signing Rondon.

Knowing them, they are probably not done.

I laugh only because a friend of mine who's a huge Yankees fan told me back in 2017 "This Yankees team with their young nucleus are poised to rip off 3 or 4 WS titles in a row"....................then they lost the ALCS to the Astros and in 2018 the RS won a WS title instead, again they haven't even been to a WS since 2009; until they get past the Astros, they aren't winning anything.

And if they do win a WS title this year; good for them, they certainly spent enough money to get to that point.

I look at teams like the Padres with 5 decades of futility or the wagon that the Dodgers have been for years and they've managed to win a whopping one WS title in 2020 during that phony baloney 60 game "season"...............................

The point is winning a WS is not easy.

The point is winning a WS is not easy.

Their problem is neither pitching nor hitting but hitting in the playoffs. During the season they can beat up on poorer teams but in the playoffs it’s a different story. Then all the teams are good; they barely beat Cleveland. Unless they can fix that, they won’t win.

Other than a catcher, first baseman, shortstop and DH, the Red Sox are all set..........oh, and two starting pitchers.

They are going to rely on Paxton and Sale for 2023, both of whom threw 0 innings last year.

They finished in last place in the division in 2022; just pencil them in now for last place in 2023 as well.

Ownership clearly does not give a ****, which is quite unique of them to basically tell the fan base that they have no plan and don't care; no flies on the Red Sox ownership, they all **** on them and left.

Hopefully Bauer sues everyone involved in this travesty. MLB basically tried to end his career based on an allegation that law enforcement had declined to pursue. They did so purely for public relations considerations and ignored the facts.

"Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer has been reinstated, effective immediately, and his suspension reduced."

I continually want to run my mouth about all of these huge salaries and team payrolls and how it is bad for the game.

But…..

When the Giants won their WS titles over the past 10 years they were always in the top 3 payrolls in MLB.

I do not want to be one of those hypocritical fans, so I’ll just say it’s a rich man’s game.
