Is it acceptable to talk your 8 year old son into wanting an item that will be delivered by Santa to him for XMAS that in fact will really be added to Dads' collection.

It worked last year with the MG, I was wondering if I am stretching good parenting too far by getting a WW1 Plane for this XMAS!

Well this could be a problem. I used to find slabs of beer on the side of the road coming home from work but after the second one they

were on to me. So maybe you could try finding a WW1 plane one day. Good luck Simmo.

I think you should write Santa a letter, sit on his lap, whatever it takes. Really what house is a home without a WWI plane? And isn't it great that we get to have a little Christmas all year?

Might be acceptible, but I don't think it's right. Instead, you should talk your son into wanting an item that will go into his own collection, and you should ask Santa yourself for things for your collection.

No, that is not a stretch! Think in terms of this, my Dad is a huge history buff. I have ‘justified’ the purchase of certain K&C pieces so that I could simply show them to him. It is kind of the reverse of what you are contemplating.

Nope. If it's his, it's his. You have to let him play with it with all the damage , chipping etc that comes with an 8 year old playing with it.

Here is what I think you should do: pick a range, and every Christmas/birthday, add a set or two to a "secret" cache, which, when he is old enough, can become a starting point for his own collection. In that way, you secure the item before it is gone, get to enjoy it in your house, don't cheat your son, and get it past his mnother:wink2:.
