If you are in Slovenia or near Slovenia, you can visit a town called Maribor (Maribor is this year European capital or culture) and you can see an display of more than 40.000 lead toy soldier figures (watch the link). It is from a private collection of Austrian collector Otto Gariboldi. Figures are very old from 17 century to 20 century, so a lot of them are one of the first ever made.
Because of th elack of space there will be only 10.000 figures displayed....but i read that they have more than 40.000 in this museum in Maribor.
THE ENTER IS FREE!
The show will be open from march 2012 to March 2013!

The Movie PRINCE CASPIAN was film in the river SOCA (where they blew up the bridge),....so everybody are welcome in Slovenia. sure thing! Most of them are 30mm big and weight 5g, because in these days (17 century) they made them that kind of style....so it is also a part of histoy, because there are from the begining of producing. I read that companys in 17 century who make knives,forks,...they do not hav ea lot of busines so they try something new, so they start to producing toy soldiers, they were PIONERS of toy soldiers,...after some time people start to collect them and thi sis ho wall that was starting. The snow ball was released from an mountain haha!!

I wish I could have understood what they were saying but the display was incredible.
Image what a fun job that would be, to be the curator of the museum. Heck even be a janitor!

Well Ales, believe it or not my wife and I will be visiting Slovenia in June. We will be on a six country, 18 day Highlights of Eastern Europe tour with Trafalgar Tours, who we have used on six previous occasions. We will be in Slovenia on June 16th and 17th, staying at the Park Hotel Lake Bled. On the 18th, we will be in your capital, Ljubljana, and then continue on to Zagreb, Croatia. Sunday, the 17th is a "free" day, but we will almost certainly sign up for one or more of the optional tours they will offer. During the Cold War, I could not travel to Eastern Europe because of my intelligence background, both in the military and as a civilian. In fact, I was not allowed to approach within 10 kilometers of the Iron Curtain border subject to being court martialed. I am really looking forward to this tour.
