I think you need to add Johnny Cash's version of "Hurt" and maybe Dylan's "Knocking on Heaven's Door" but that Buckley song makes one want to climb the tower and jump. It's great. -- lancer

Hey Combat!
Sorry I pushed The Smiths to 50%. I voted for the only song I know (besides Dylan). Big fan from way back of the music of Marr and Morrissey, not the politics or lifestyle:rolleyes:

The Smiths were a great group. A ton of great songs and they rarely brought any PC issues into the fray. I was sitting in a coffee shop in GB today and heard the Colorblind song from the Counting Crows. Looked around to see if anyone paid attention, but it did not seem to be the case.

None of the above. Listen to anything by Staind. Even happy Staind (eg "14 Shades of Grey") sounds like Aaron Lewis is slitting his wrists as we speak.

Prost!
Brad

Tower of Song is not depressing
Listen to Townes van Zandt's Marie or Waiting round to die for depressing.

Agreed none of the above,,The original version of "Johnny comes marching home " by far,,Most anything by Leonard Cohen , "Get Ready for the future it is murder,,,Charlie Manson is still dancin"

I played them all and found Leonard Cohen - Tower of Song to be the most depressing, the guy can't even sing

Uh oh. Leonard has quite a loyal following. He was born with the gift of a golden voice. The Buckley song was also written by LC. BTW - Daniel Johnston is a former mental patient who once took over the controls of his dad's plane and crashed it. His music takes some getting used too, but catchy.

To each their own I guess, personally I prefer singers to actually sing lyrics rather than just speak them in a monotone voice - even I can do that ;)

I forgot about "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. -- lancer

Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" with Kate Bush...I'ts supposed to be a cheer me up, but it really ends up putting me in the doldrums.

How about this, the title says it all really........"There's a tear in my beer" although if you play it backwards it's a real pick me up LOL :D :D :D

Beatles Eleanor Rigby,John Lennon Imagine (sorry guys but every Christmas its on all the bloody time over here-so boring and very depressing after the second time)Nanci Griffith,Tecumseh valley. This has to be one of THE most depressing songs i've ever heard, the life of the heroine of the song gradually gets worse until she 'Turns to whoring' and is then found dead during a freezing winter.Good god it has me wanting to end it all half way through!.

I can't stand sad songs,i don't handle them well and i avoid them whenever possible.Give me an upbeat Rock song with great guitar Riffs every time!.:)

Depressing or not, IMO Peter Gabriel is the best in the business. "Shock the Monkey" and "I Grieve" are not exactly upbeat, either. -- lancer

Don't get me wrong...The song with Kate in the background is Incredible, and so is Peter Gabriel. Did you listen to his album entitled "Peter Gabriel"?

Mike, I do not know if I have heard it or not. How new? Is it a compilation album or new music? It has been years since I have purchased new CD's and I do not listen to radio so I am behind times. Any suggested tunes from the album? -- Al
