In an interview for TV Land's 40th anniversary celebration of STAR TREK, Leonard Nimoy stated, "Believe it or not, I was not Gene Roddenberry's first choice to play Spock. So who was the first choice, the actor who turned down the role?------George 'Goober' Lindsey----true." Lindsey is best known for playing Goober Pyle on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Ernest Borgnine, a good friend of Lindsey's, stated in his memoir ERNIE, "my hand to God – he turned down the part of Mr. Spock on TV's Star Trek, the role that made Leonard Nimoy famous." However, Lindsey's memoir, GOOBER IN A NUTSHELL, does not mention that he turned the Spock role down. Also, STAR TREK cast memos do not have Lindsey as a candidate to play Spock.
In the TV Land interview, Nimoy was displaying his Vulcan half-human humor when he started the urban legend that George Lindsey almost played Spock.

We’re all over, so she has to gather everybody. The funniest thing to me is that there’s a plane crash like that Hanks movie (CASTAWAY). On the island where a FedEx plane or something with a 100 Buzz dolls lands, and they’re all lost. It’s hysterical. They’re trying to find their way back, and there’s a hundred of them. I hope they have it in there. I ad-lib.”

ROAD HOUSE: DYLAN---Doug Liman, who directed the Amazon MGM Studios remake movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will direct a direct sequel to the original movie that starred Patrick Swayze. The sequel will be written by R. Lance Hill, who wrote the script for the original movie. Gyllenhaal is returning for Amazon's ROAD HOUSE 2, so there will be two ROAD HOUSE movies competing with each other.
Liman expressed his displeasure with Amazon MGM when his movie was streamed and not released in theaters as originally planned, “My issue on ROAD HOUSE is that we made the movie for MGM to be in theaters, everyone was paid as if it was going to be in theaters, and then Amazon switched it on us and nobody got compensated. Forget about the effect on the industry — 50 million people saw ROAD HOUSE — I didn’t get a cent, Jake Gyllenhaal didn’t get a cent, [producer] Joel Silver didn’t get a cent. That’s wrong.”

ROAD-HOUSE-FOTOR.jpg

SUPERGIRL---David Krumholtz, who plays Zor-El, commented on the movie starring Milly Alcock, “It’s very true to the graphic novel that it’s based on, WOMAN OF TOMORROW, which is great.I’m thrilled to be sort of the next piece of telling the story of Krypton and sort of further clarifying what the House of El is all about.”

DOCTOR WHO---sources explained why Disney ended its DOCTOR WHO agreement with the BBC by saying the show starring Ncuti Gatwa had declining ratings and a high budget with the show costing $8.5 million--$9.2 million per episode. A former DOCTOR WHO executive said, “Budget limitations used to help the idiosyncrasies of the show. Big budgets can cause a problem.”
Another source said Gatwa never "fully embraced" the role of Doctor Who, “There is more to that role than performing. You have got to be an ambassador for the brand and embrace being that generation’s Doctor. Matt Smith and David Tennant fully understood the responsibility it carried.”
A third reason Disney cancelled the deal is because the show had become too woke which led to turning viewers away which was "a factor in Disney's minds."

VIVA LA MADNESS---Jason Statham will star in the Guy Ritchie movie based on the novel which was a sequel to the novel LAYER CAKE, which was made into a movie starring Daniel Craig. VIV LA MADNESS involves an ex- London drug dealer, who reunites with other criminals, for a big score in London.

SGT. ROCK---Colin Farrell commented on the status of the DC Comics World War II movie after director Luca Guadagnino left the movie, “I know nothing about it, brother. I was going to do it with Luca. SCARY MOVIE 6---the sequel's official title is "Scary MoVIe" with the "VI" referring to the Roman numeral for 6.

BME---Staz cancelled the series, but spinoffs may be developed.

TRIVIA---countdown to Halloween.
Sci fi fans might know Jeff Yagher, who co-starred on the 1984 alien invasion tv series V: THE SERIES in which reptilian aliens disguised as humans invade Earth. The series also starred Marc Singer, Jane Badler, Michael Ironside and Robert Englund. Yagher was in the 21 JUMP STREET tv pilot, but he was replaced by Johnny Depp.
However, more sci fi fans might unknowingly know Yagher as "The Godfather" of monster model sculptors with his models being bought by George Lucas, Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro. Some of his models are inspired by the famous Aurora monster kits of the 1960s. Yagher said, "I was a collector of model kits that were plastic pieces when I was five, six, seven. In the sixties, there was a big Universal monsters craze, and a company called Aurora came out with all these model kits. I got all those—even when I was at Yale drama school."
He added, "...all of this started just because when I first came to Hollywood I got a series called V, and I suddenly had time on my hands between scenes on set. I would get so bored, so I started bringing clay to my trailer and making little sculptures. Then I put my first kit out. When that started to take off, suddenly every makeup artist in Hollywood saw my stuff and thought they could do the same thing too in between gigs. So all these makeup people really all started putting these things out or hiring me to do it for them. And it just grew nonstop from there."
Yagher continued, "I actually thought I would be an actor for all my life. I didn't think that this would become my number-one thing. I was 23 years old when I started doing this for a living. I didn't advertise myself in this hobby. People just knew me by name. So all the people who didn't follow my acting career thought of me as this little old man who lived in a tree and did these little magical things. Well, finally, after many years now, I've grown into that little old man that they imagined."

THUNDERBOLT-LIGHTFOOT-FOTOR.jpg

ALIEN 5---Sigourney Weaver commented on the sequel being written by Walter Hill (48 HRS.), “Walter Hill has written about 50 pages. Maybe, by now, he’s written more about where Ripley might be now. And although I’ve never particularly wanted to go back to the series, there’s something about her experience being sidelined now, probably by this society, by this company, by this world and being probably around 200 years old, but still Ripley and you know, presumably these problems still out there. So I’m going to see what happens with Walter’s script. It would not be like what we’ve seen tonight (the original Alien). It would not be running around through airshafts. It would be a very different kind of story.“
Weaver also commented on the cancelled Neill Blomkamp sequel, “It was a wonderful script and unfortunately, it was at that point I think that Ridley Scott decided to be very possessive about the series and really drilled down on his prequels. And so I think it was a disaster for that project. We were never able to… I think Neill in fact just gave up and he’s so talented. I wish him all the best.”
Weaver also commented the ALIEN: EARTH tv series, “I loved ALIEN: EARTH. I thought it was remarkable. So interesting, terrifying about our world and yet you could understand… you can imagine a world where each tech bro owns a planet. You know, it’s not that far from where America is now. So, I’m glad to see that ALIEN has legs, as they say, in the business. And I think it’s a very interesting time for the series.“

ALIEN-1-FOTOR.jpg

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI---Rian Johnson commented on if the fan criticism of THE LAST JEDI turned him away developing the new trilogy, “No, not at all. In fact, it’s the reason that I wanted to. My overall experience with putting the movie out, and what you’re talking about with fan feedback. I mean, first of all, I’m a lifelong STAR WARS fan. So I know the deal. I know that STAR WARS fans are passionate about this stuff. We love the stuff we love, we hate the stuff we hate, and we fight about it. And that’s been happening since the original trilogy.
The reality is STAR WARS has always been something that has meant different things to different people, and I think that’s part of the fun and the passion of it as fans, is arguing about it respectfully. Its been the most positive experience I’ve ever had with anything I’ve made, in terms of interacting with people who’ve seen it. I came out at the other end of it loving STAR WARS fandom more than I did even going into it.”
Also, Oscar Issac regretted his earlier comments about returning as Poe Dameron "if I need another house or something.” He recently said, "That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ. Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much. I said a slightly dickish thing."

ESCORTED---Amazon Prime comedy tv series about a divorced Manhattan father who accidentally becomes a male escort.

TRIVIA---Tim Curry said Mick Jagger almost played Dr. Frank-N-Furter, “When the movie was a definite thing, there were several big stars who wanted to play the part. Mick Jagger wanted to play it and he would’ve done a great job if you saw PERFORMANCE. But [Jim Sharman, director] said he wanted me to do it. I don’t think the studio was happy that he turned down Mick."

STAR WARS: STARFIGHTER---Shawn Levy commented on the movie starring Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams, “Well, for one thing, it is different in that it is an all-new non-sequel, non-prequel adventure. It’s new characters, it’s a new timeline. It inherits legacy themes, but it’s really trying to give STAR WARS [fans], and just movie audiences, something fresh, something new. And with a spirit of play and big-hearted adventure, with moments of real levity that, frankly, A New Hope had in a revolutionary way.
We’re really trying to sort of take that tone as a North Star every day. My crew, my DP, Claudio Miranda, Gosling, is my kind of central collaborator in the lead role. It’s certainly been a dream come true. My 10-year-old self is on set with me every day. In fact, he’s going to catch a flight tonight to go back to the set and keep shooting on Monday.
But it’s a huge, invigorating opportunity because Lucasfilm has been so encouraging of me doing something new. There’s no pressure to be derivative or limited by an obligation to what came before. There’s just a love of what came before.”
Levy also commented on a possible sequel to the 2011 movie REAL STEEL starring Hugh Jackman, “It’s a hard thing because the movie is so beloved in a way that is out of proportion to however the movie did at the box office. And I just don’t want to touch REAL STEEL unless I know I’m doing it justice — whether that’s a sequel or a TV show. Right now, I’d say TBD. But I wouldn’t say likely, and I’m sorry to admit it. But I am protecting what is at least a pure love that we all share for that original movie."

STAR-WARS-FOTOR.jpg

LORDS OF WAR---Nicolas Cage is returning for the sequel to the 2005 movie LORD OF WAR with Bill Skarsgard, Sylvia Hoeks and Laura Harrier co-starring. The sequel plot is described as, “LORDS OF WAR sees Cage’s notorious gunrunner Yuri Orlov go head to head against his own son, Anton (Skarsgard). A chip off the old black, Anton hasn’t simply followed his father into the arms trade, but is going one further by amassing a mercenary army to fight America’s conflicts in the Middle East. A bitter rivalry erupts, with the two even at odds over the same women.”

TRIVIA---Veterans Day movie trivia.
In World War II, Academy Award-winning actors Jimmy Stewart and Walter Matthau both served in the 453rd Bomb Group as B-24 Liberator bomber crewmen. Maj. Stewart was the Group Operations Officer and SSgt. Matthau was a nose gunner/radioman, who was nicknamed "Kid Reliable" because of his steady composure in combat. Matthau, a big fan of Stewart's, would attend the mission briefings just to watch the actor. After one mission debriefing, Matthau asked for Stewart's advice about pursuing a career in acting after the war and Stewart encouraged him by saying, "Follow your passion, and it'll all work out".
Ironically, after the war, director Billy Wilder was searching for the lead actor to play Richard Sherman opposite Marilyn Monroe in THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH, and he narrowed his search down to Stewart and Matthau. Stewart was unable to accept the role due to a schedule problem, so Wilder wanted Matthau. Writer George Axelrod agreed with Wilder, but 20th Century Fox head Darryl F. Zanuck felt Matthau was too risky because he was not a big star, so Wilder chose Tom Ewell, who played originated the Sherman role on Broadway.

THE PINK PANTHER---Eddie Murphy commented on the status of the reboot of the comedy franchise that starred Peter Sellers, "I’m waiting on the script. (To a nearby associate:) You said that script was coming in October, and it’s Nov. 3. What happened to Pink Panther? (Back to the interview:) You heard it? She said it’s really close."
Murphy added, "I’m looking forward to putting my spin on it. See, I associate Pink Panther with Peter Sellers. He’s the original Pink Panther, and it turned into this cool thing. Other comic actors have played it, and it’d be cool to put a new spin on it. There’s been a few movies in my career where it was like, “OK, I’m doing this movie because no Black person has ever done a movie like this.” It was like, a Black Dr. Dolittle? So I had to do this movie. [And] they had no Black Inspector Clouseau. That’s like a Black James Bond to me. I’m just looking forward to going into this area that nobody else Black had been in before."

The plot involved a man (Van Heflin) who smuggled a bomb onboard an airliner flying from Chicago to Rome in order to blow the airliner up so his wife and family can collect on his life insurance policy. However, the explosion only created a large hole in the airliner's fuselage and the pilots returned the damaged airliner safely to Chicago.
After landing, the official who inspected the fuselage hole was played by Gordon Jump, who later played radio station manager Arthur "Big Guy" Carlson in the comedy tv series WKRP IN CINCINNATI. Jump replaced Jesse White as the Maytag repairman, "the loneliest guy in town".

FANTASTIC FOUR---Miles Teller commented on the failure of the 2015 reboot movie, “I think it’s unfortunate for that because so many people worked so hard on that movie...Honestly, maybe there was one really important person who kind of f-cked it all up. Yeah...When I first saw the movie, I remember talking to one of the studio heads, and I was like, ‘I think we’re in trouble."
Miles did not clarify about who the "one really important person" was, but director Josh Trank reportedly acted erratically and abusive towards the cast and crew during filming leading to a near-fight between Trank and Teller.

SHOGUN---co-creator Justin Marks commented on Season 2, “Part 2 is, I would say, two things. Like the first season, I think part two is a really sweeping, beautiful, and you’re never going to see it coming, entirely unexpected love story. It’s also a story of war and the cost of war. There are battle sequences that we’re putting together now in part two. I don’t think you’ve ever seen anything like this kind of scale, this kind of tragedy, and this kind of humanity.”

Six years into this law journey, and I'm still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination."
She added, "Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way so far. Falling short isn't failure – it's fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivated me even more. Let's go!"
Kim began her legal education in 2018 when she entered the California Law Office Study Program, which is an apprentice program where aspiring attorneys learn under licensed lawyers for six years instead of attending law school. Kim announced in 2021 that she had flunked the California "baby bar" exam three times, but she passed on the fourth attempt.
