Hi Guys,

It’s no secret that K&C’s own Andy C. Neilson loves a good ‘war movie’... Heck! He even loves a few bad ones too!!!

In recent years KING & COUNTRY has produced some excellent ‘homages’ to some outstanding war films of the past half century.

Among those that have directly inspired K&C are :
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA” (1962)
THE LONGEST DAY” (1962)
THE GREAT ESCAPE” (1963)
THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE” (1965)
THE SAND PEBBLES” (1966)
WHERE EAGLES DARE” (1968)
BATTLE OF BRITAIN” (1969)
TORA! TORA! TORA!” (1970)
KELLY’S HEROES” (1970)
PATTON” (1970)
OVERLORD” (1975)
A BRIDGE TOO FAR” (1977)
THE BIG RED ONE” (1980)
DAS BOOT” (1981)
GALLIPOLI” (1981)
SCHINDLER’S LIST” (1993)
THE LIGHTHORSEMEN” (1987)
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN” (1998)
THE PATRIOT” (2000)
DOWNFALL” (2004)
FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS” (2006)
VALKYRIE” (2008)
And
FURY” (2014)

Now, we may have missed a couple... but that’s a pretty impressive list... How many of the K&C figures do you have that correspond with the list above...?

Best Wishes and Happy Collecting,
Kin

One could even say ... The Three Kingdoms series is inspired by John Woo's Battle of the Red Cliff {sm4}

... speaking of which, when may we see the next releases ? :salute::

Dad's Army (film 1971), a couple outstanding figures from the home guard have been promised Andy.^&grin, Robin.

And another to add to the list ...

The Duellists c1977

And Waterloo surely but the list has a decidedly World War definition so the Crusades and Gettysburg and even Robin Hood and the Sheriff don't get a mention or Hornblower or Sharpe... :)

I always loved The Sand Pebbles and i regret not having bought all the figures (in truth i bought only the B.A.R. figure representing Steve McQueen. I loved the bag carrying figure (always McQueen in winter uniform) and the MPs. But i always thought that we could have a second instalment with the figures wearing the uniforms of the battle on the river: Jeans jersey and pants and helmet. By the way i'll try to collect at least all the figures i mentioned. They are with the early USMC some of the best figures ever done. I love their neatness, top sculpting and painting.

That’s a great list. Hopefully, maybe the Cross of Iron can be added to that list. A Sgt Steiner and his squad. A Capt.Stransky and Col.Bryant I believe. Great book and Great movie.

A John Wayne, Sgt Stryker figure from the Sands of Iwo Jima, for Tarawa would be good !

Steve

This is a cool topic. Can't forget a few of the North African movies:

Sahara

Joe Gunn with Bantam Jeep by Western Outlaw, on Flickr
(although still waiting for that re-release of Lulu Belle:wink2:)

Ice Cold in Alex

Ice Cold in Alex by Western Outlaw, on Flickr

Meanwhile, back in Europe...
I loved the Where Eagles Dare figures:

Where Eagles Dare (3) by Western Outlaw, on Flickr

Fury was a beautiful piece by K&C and one of my personal favorite tanks:

Fury (5) by Western Outlaw, on Flickr

In terms of figures, I esp. like Sgt. Saunders from Combat (pictured on bridge):

This is one that I'd love to see K&C expand with all of King Company.

Right now, I'm working on Kelly's Heroes.

Wonderful idea for a topic, Andy. ^&grin

With the one omission of the "Lighthorsemen", I have each one of those on my shelf as a DVD or VHS; plus many of the additional movies that have been put forth.

My apologies to my wonderful Australian friends for the omission which I will rectify .... :redface2: forthwith.

As the Tarawa series progress ... and (hopefully) more JN Naval figures, equipment ... I can add many WWII Pacific movies to the list.

Really think you will enjoy The Lighthorsemen Larry, it is full of action and moves quickly coupled with a love story, what's not to like.:salute::, Robin.

Bob,

Totally agree K&C need to do the Ambulance for this series.

The Movie wasn't that great I actually preferred the black & white move 40,000 Horseman

Mark

PS Trust you are recovering well

Not a patient patient Mark :) but getting there. Black and white is how I like my reason these days but if it moves it's got to be in colour :)
