Gentle Friends,

As many of you know, I am an avid collector of Delhi Durbar figures. Also, many of you know I have a relatively strong preference for glossy finished figures. From my perspective, the Delhi Durbar should always appear in a gloss finish with bright, vibrant colors. The bright colors always seem to communicate to me the high spirits, the excitement, and the joy associated with the Durbar.

When W. Britain released the first few matte figures in their new line of Durbar figures, I was clearly disappointed. I thought the Jaipur Elephant, the Lord Kitchener figure, and the Jaipur Horseman carrying the Silver Trident fell short of meeting the standards to which W. Britain aspired and for which collectors yearned. At the time, I expressed my disappointment, my feelings, and my opinions concerning the issue as I experienced it. I also stated that W. Britain and I were old friends and old friends we would remain. Much to my gratification, the friendship I have enjoyed and the faith I have maintained with W. Britain has proven to be deeply justified.

Yesterday, I received the Britain limited edition, matte finished figures of the Flag-Bearers of Cutch on Camel. While I still prefer glossy figures as the correct and appropriate representation of the Delhi Durbar, I must say the Flag-Bearing figures are outstanding! The sculpting is excellently executed, the painting is masterfully accomplished, and the presentation of the figures and camels appear quite natural. Without a doubt, W. Britain has produced a much improved set of figures within its present Durbar line that is extremely attractive. And, I am very, very pleased and proud to display them in my collection. To all associated with the production of these fine figures, I say:

Well done, W. Britain! My compliments for an outstanding job!

In order to illustrate my opinion, I have attached a few photos of these new figures below. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

Very much agree with you, Pat.
At first it did not seem to look right, having Durbar figures in matte finish, but I got them anyway and through time started to appreciate them more than in the beginning.
Now, after getting the camel-mounted Emblem Bearers of Cutch, I am actually glad I started to collect the line and am looking forward to adding more items in the future.

I must admit that the fish on a stick does look very nice. :)

BUT:(

There's only really one way to tell whether it would have looked better in gloss - and that's for someone to paint one up in gloss - and then stand it side-by-side with a matte one.{eek3}

AND THEN...........^&confuse

Well - you choose!

Not that I think for one moment that somebody will.:)

It would be an interesting experiment though...eh????? johnnybach^&grin

Two great new sets to add to the Durbar Pat, very nice. Hopefully mine will arrive soon. My dealer is always a little behind in getting his parcels out.

Pat,
Well... you can always convert matte to gloss by spraying them with Clear Gloss Lacquer Spray :)

Are they 54 mm or Britains is still making 60 mm Durbar figures?
