Gentle Friends,
As many of you know, I am an avid collector of Delhi Durbar figures. Also, many of you know I have a relatively strong preference for glossy finished figures. From my perspective, the Delhi Durbar should always appear in a gloss finish with bright, vibrant colors. The bright colors always seem to communicate to me the high spirits, the excitement, and the joy associated with the Durbar.
When W. Britain released the first few matte figures in their new line of Durbar figures, I was clearly disappointed. I thought the Jaipur Elephant, the Lord Kitchener figure, and the Jaipur Horseman carrying the Silver Trident fell short of meeting the standards to which W. Britain aspired and for which collectors yearned. At the time, I expressed my disappointment, my feelings, and my opinions concerning the issue as I experienced it. I also stated that W. Britain and I were old friends and old friends we would remain. Much to my gratification, the friendship I have enjoyed and the faith I have maintained with W. Britain has proven to be deeply justified.
Yesterday, I received the Britain limited edition, matte finished figures of the Flag-Bearers of Cutch on Camel. While I still prefer glossy figures as the correct and appropriate representation of the Delhi Durbar, I must say the Flag-Bearing figures are outstanding! The sculpting is excellently executed, the painting is masterfully accomplished, and the presentation of the figures and camels appear quite natural. Without a doubt, W. Britain has produced a much improved set of figures within its present Durbar line that is extremely attractive. And, I am very, very pleased and proud to display them in my collection. To all associated with the production of these fine figures, I say:
Well done, W. Britain! My compliments for an outstanding job!
In order to illustrate my opinion, I have attached a few photos of these new figures below. I hope you enjoy viewing them as much as I do!
Warmest personal regards,
Pat
