This kit is 1:32 from Trumpeter. I'm hoping to finish it in next couple weeks.
Below are some pics of its current state

Superb! The detail on these kits is remarkable for the price. Will you be leaving the black spray marks on?? They are the rage!! LOL

Finished airbrushing the panel lines and first coat of light blue

Starting to hand brush the camo with brown violet first, then dark green color will come after. I've decided to hand brush the camo because that is what they did back then on the field.

Nicely done! Yes, masking a pattern like that would be tedious. It's like applying the Italian camo patterns.

Prost!

Thank you sir. Yes the Italian camo patterns would be a challenged one to mask.
Just finished painting the camo. Next will be airbrushing the underside all black

Finished the underside and decals. Next I'll be adding a bit of weathering and finish it off with a final matt coat

Hi cnq,
I surely do, nice built wonder what your next one will be - great thread.:)
kinds regards
Wolfgang

Thanks Wolfgang & Jack.
My next build will be the F4F Grumman by Revell 1/32

Are you gonna build it into a Marlet?

I find the entire subject of these older, 1/32 Revell kits to be quite interesting. While they may not have the bells and whistles associated with newer kits from outfits like Trumpeter, they frequently have a more accurate shape than the more recent molds.^&cool Might I add, they are also much more reasonably priced!

Good choice, and I look forward to your exposition!

Yes ivanmoe. that's the one I'm working on right now. The fits are not too good since it's a very old kit. I think it could be built into a decent model. As usual this build will be out of box with no after market parts.

IIRC, the fuselage doesn't want to fit together once the engine assembly and cockpit are put in place. You'll probably have to do some shaving/sanding on the bulkheads and floor, and then complete the process with filling and sanding of the fuselage seams. Don't mean to scare you off; it'll build into a very nice model.

I took that you've already built this model. If yes could you post up some pics ?

I'd love to, but the year was 1969 and I was in the 9th grade. The kit was part of my summer vacation:

Revell%20H299-200%20F4FNC.JPG

Little did I realze that Revell had screwed-up the decals. The F4F-4 never wore that livery, as the pre-war national insignia and rudder-stripes were gone by the time that the FAA tailored Marlet/Wildcat, the -4, went into service. Man, life was a lot easier when I wasn't all wised-up. Clearly, the problem getting the fuselage to close over the cockpit and engine assemblies made an impression on me!

I still do build a kit occasionally, in part because it's so much easier than when I was a kid. This is largely a function of my being able to afford the needed tools. No more close-pins, ersatz paint-brushes, and cleaning up with gasoline. Next one that I build, I'll post some pics. I've got to warn you, however, that I'm really, really slow to complete things! Fast to the finish, I'm definitely not.:redface2:
