On November 30, 2011 I added #10 foot figures to my prior small diorama of just #9 figures (three were mounted) to my entitled "The 3rd Crusade of 1189-1192 AD". Prior display was on a wall shelve of about 24 by 5 inches. The current diorama is on a top of bookcase display area of about 28 x 9 inches. The per foot figure retail price was $32.00 USD except for the duplex set of two figures of the "Wounded Templar Set" MK063 which was less. Given current new K&C prices of $42.00 or more per foot figure they are a "bargain". Adding the nine sets with ten foot figures has made for a more interesting diorama. The palm tree is made in Italy by Fontaninni. The rocks where the two opposing flag bearers are on were not purchased, but were picked up from where ever.

Dear "MikeMiller1955":

Thanks for your kind comments. The figures bases were covered by Play Box Sand that you can buy for about $3.00 for a plastic bag of about 20 pounds at any garden center store. The sand always has some very small stones in it which I think is OK and makes the it look like "dirt" or assorted ground cover as you noted above. As I was posting the photos I see that a couple of the figures' lower boots were covered along with the stands. Lets say that in the heat of battle their boots got a bit dug into the "dirt", ha, ha.

Gary...if you ever get really, really, really picky about those sandy boots...try a soft bristle paint brush to dust their boots...it takes a few minutes...but it will give you some great detail...same thing on snow...dirt...etc...any ground work...

if you play golf...take a plastic baggie and swipe some sand from one of the traps...almost all courses use different blends...I got some like powder and some with rocks in it...

seems like I'm always in the sand...so I don't have to go far...^&grin
