Today the postman delivered the start of my initial venture into WWII, FL DAK009 "DAK Infantry Walking w/MP40" and FL DAK010 DAK Infantry MG34 Team". I decided to "test the water" so to speak with these figures to see how I would like them. I must say that I am very pleased with them overall . . . enough so that I have decided to continue to collect more FL DAK items (I have on order FL DAK015 "BMW Motorcycle 15.Panzer Recon . . . looking forward to its arrival). This is my very first time collecting any WWII figures/sets. I always thought that if I ever would it would definatley be the North African theater figures and vehicles since I have always been infatuated with desert warfare. I have placed these figures on a desert diorama I made back in 2008.

Welcome to the dark side ! Those figures look GREAT in your desert dio, can't wait to see future installments.

Mike,
I never thought I would see the day you would start collecting WWII, but how can anyone resist with First Legions WWII range?!?!?! I have two of the 101st Airborne figures I picked up about a month ago and they are splendid! I have always had a close connection to World War II so that's why I started collecting the range in addition to their ACW, which you know already is top notch. I look forward to your future additions and of course your wonderful dios! :)

Mike,
Looking good! I was wondering what you were up to when you started selling off various parts of your collection. Congrats on the excellent acquisitions.
Best,
Josh

Great sets to start with Mike, I agree with the others and you really can't go wrong with any of the WWII ranges, Normandy, Stalingrad, Dak, I look forward to seeing your collection grow in the near future...Sammy

Thankyou Mike . . . . there is plenty of winter left to develop future installments of my fledgling DAK collection.

Never say Never . . . . I have been resisting these for a very long time. Its been difficult to do especially when Frank posts his fabulous photos of the same range.

Outstanding Mike! Looking forward to future posts! Brad

Thanks Brad.

I have always used parts of my collection to fund new additions or ranges . . . the important thing for me is to stay in the game so to speak so that I can continue to participate in a hobby that I enjoy very much.

Are you laughing at me or with me my Texian friend. I know, I know what we have talked about inthe past . . . . what can I say, you are correct, I can't leave FL alone.

Sammy, you may be listed as a co-defendant in my divorce (along with Frank) since you are partly to blame for this with the photos you also post. Although this time of the year here in Wisconsin made me think that Stalingrad was just to cold to dela with . . . . wanted something more sunny and war, thus DAK :wink2:

All is lost! ^&grin

You can say that again Brad . . . . Its a very serious case of "cabin fever" that I have succombed too {eek3} . . . . very contagious . . . . and I think the "cure" will be very expensive :wink2:

Welcome to the poor house.......nice job

Thank you Alex and I don't doubt a thing about the poor house being in my future.

Thank you Alex . . . . These figures are quite exquiste aren't they . . . . It appears that I am now sold on at least the DAK range.

Quite a successful venture if I may say so .....

Good luck with your future endeavors, Mike. The good news is that to my knowledge all figures from that range are still freely available and that the speed of further additions is slow enough to more or less keep up to date.

I thought i would never see day....:) I have some of King and Country DAK stuff myself....have not ventured into WWII from First Legion....I would but I dont think the figures match up in scale.

Thank you very much Andreas . . . . I believe you are correct on the availability of the sets . . . . Initially I plan to just collect the vehicles that are marked for the 15-Pz. Division and over time hopefully will be able to collect most if not all.

Never say never Titus . . . . who knows what lurks in the mind of men during the dark and slow days of winter. I believe you are correct as far as size goes . . . . I think K&C figs are larger.

I was admiring those DAK figure poses and really wish FL had produced similar poses for the Russian Front series.

I often times like non-combat poses . . . . after all there is alot more "marching" than there is "fighting" if you know what I mean. As I delve into this range deeper, I am hopeful that FL will offer some corresponding Italian, British, and American desert forces in the future as well.

Hi Mike,
I new they'd pull you back in sooner or later :wink2:, I must admit before First Legion entered into WWII I really wouldn't have considered myself a WWII miniatures collector since getting out of building and painting my own 30 years back preferring to focus more on my Napoleonic collection. I just couldn't resist that first group of Stalingrad figures :redface2:. I have a really nice old Russian painted Rommel and have been waiting for them to do something DAK that would really fit him, maybe the standing Panzer Crew . Thanks for sharing a really nice Dio, remember moderation is the key to longevity, now if I could only follow that advice :wink2::redface2: . regards Gebhard

Thank you very much . . . glad you enjoyed it. I am now considering building a new desert dio base 46 inches x 17 inches that could be displayed on a table I have of the same deminsion. The base I have in mind would be a simple sand base with perhaps the faint impression of a road and possibly a small oasis . . . . something to think about. I have a DAK BMW motorcycle recon and two more walking infantry on order. As soon as I get them I will work them into the current dio I have shown.

Thanks Gebhard. Ever since FL released the DAK range and as it developed I have really tried to not "jump on board". This took a lot of discipline because I have always been fascinated with desert warfare regardless of historical time period . . . . that, and the fact that deseret dios seem easier for me to create. In any event, over time, the superb photographs of other members FL DAK collection kept enticing me to try this range out. I don't think I would have considered any other manufacturer. This, coupled with a long cold winter so far did me in {eek3}

Mike, cant wait GLAD TO SEE GETTING INTO WW2 ^&cool^&cool
