www.laststandminiatures.co.uk The website isn't updated for ages but Chris the owner told me the zulus are on the way. they sell them glossy at fair prices and as castings. I also bought a rocketbattery from them, which is from Mountford. That one needs a lot of work but looks outstanding.
I prime my figs with matte white enamel and use Vallejo acrylics afterwards. Instead of applying washes, I apply paint mixed with water and matte varnish. The wash is way better to control this way and gives the raised areas a nice patina as well. A retarder can be mixed to prevent the paint from drying fast but I rarely use it on figures.
I flock the base with sand sprinkled in white glue and paint it.

The loincloth is made in leopard skin now and the base has some green on it.
The look i am going for with these figures is matte toy soldier style. In the future i will buy some better detailed models (although these are excellent models) with more detail to paint.
