....and here was me thinking you were a regular 'yoga-man' Tom and pretty nifty with a Swiss-ball.{eek3}^&grin

Your vision of me doing things and what I can do in reality Toddy is two different things but one thing I can tell you for sure is, I look nothing like what Waynepoo described of me in another thread! {sm4}

The Panzer 38(t) in the Battle of France 1940......

I have seen that picture described as the 7th Panzer Division just after breaking out of the Ardennes in 1940.

I digged out some more photos of 38(t) - if seems it pairs with the Pazner IVs very closely when spearheading the assault

The FOB039 Panzer IV set should be a perfect match for this 38(t) used in a diorama {sm4}

I could not find pictures of 38(t) used with the STUG III though....

The short explanation for not seeing photos of StuG III with 38(t) is that they were in different tactical formations. The 38(t) [and Panzer III with it's 3.7cm KwK L/45 gun] were part of the Panzer Regiment of a Panzer Division in an anti-tank role with their 3.7cm KwK L/47.8 gun. The StuG III were in StuG Battalions - not part of Panzer Regiments. They were considered to be mobile artillery for close infantry support with their low velocity 7.5cm StuK 37 L/24 gun. In a Panzer Regiment, the Panzer IV with it's similar 7.5 cm KwK 37 L/24 was used in that close support role against soft-skinned vehicles and fortifications - and also for anti-tank where needed. So Pz IV are often seen with Pz III or 38(t) spearheading an assault in early war photos.

Thank you Terry for the details - this is indeed very useful knowledge for getting a diorama tactically "correct" :salute::

So now it seems a GREY Panzer III is the "missing" piece from KnC catalog to make my assault team "complete" ... ^&grin

I used Photoshop to scale down to compare the 38(t) with a TAMIYA Marder III - guess what , the ratio, length, width of the chassis, tracks, etc. matches {sm3}

A grey Pz. III? To make your assault team complete? Did any Panzer Divisions have both 38(t) and Pz III with the 3.7cm or 5 cm gun? I think the divisions equipped with 38(t) were the 3rd Leichte Division in Poland, the 6th, 7th and 8th Panzer Divisions in France 1940 and the 6th, 7th, 8th, 12th, 19th and 20th Divisions in Russia. Did any of those divisions also have 3.7cm or 5 cm Panzer III? (That's only 7 divisions to research. {eek3}:wink2:^&grin And don't ask me because I don't know ^&confuse

For example, the 25th Panzer Regiment which was the armoured regiment of the 7th Panzer Division, began Barbarossa in 1941 with 53 Pz II, 30 Pz IV, 174 Pz 38 (t) and 8 Bef. Pz - no Pz III

And I don't have a grey Pz III either.

Terry ,

I repainted a 21st century PzIII Ausf E/F , & marked it as 24th Pz Division...I have the K&C DAK Pz III
would be nice to have Andy do one in Grey...
But from what i know the germans saw the 38t & PzIII as the same on Equipment tables...
So seems they just filled the allotment for a pz regiment with one or the other , but i don't think it would be madness to assume that there may have been Pz III's & 38t's fighting together at times ?!
But as part of the same pz regiment i am not sure either...

I was curious. So I looked up the strength of the Panzer Regiments of each of the Divisions with 38(t) - the 6th had 35(t)- at the beginning of Poland, France and Barbarossa and none of the regiments had PzIII.

It would be quite expensive for KnC to build the Marder III and in turn they have to sell at higher price point (I guess) as it has a open top and interials i.e. need to include empty cartridges, rounds, helmets, etc. and 1 full size commander as well - nope I don't think so ^&grin
