In anticipation of the 2010 Britain's War Along the Nile, I am taking stock of what I currently have for the Sudan by WB. In addition to collecting the new matte series I will also be adding multiples of the glossy Tel-El-Kebir 42nd Highlanders (Black Watch) Redcoat figures marching (Club figure 50011C) and standing at attention (44027) and whatever additional Sudan Redcoat releases become available. A Black Watch officer and piper would be ideal.

Below is what I have to date:

1. Museum Collection 42nd Highlander (Black Watch) Egypt (Tel-El-Kebir) 1882

2. Redcoats Guards Camel Corps Khartoum 1884-1885

3. Redcoats 21st Lancers and Grenadier Guards Omdurman 1898

I wish WB would do glossy Sudan on the same level as the matte series but hey half a loaf is better than none. I think Ken does an outstanding job with the Redcoats line--some of the best sculpts around fro glossies.

Hi Randy,

Thanks for posting the additional images of the glossy WB Camel Corps and 21st Lancers.

The WB Camel Corps glossy pair look better and better each time you post.

Just two of these beauties look good enough for a nice display.

The single mounted and dismounted 21st Lancers look a bit lonely though.

I fear these may be the last of the glossy WB Sudan sets. :(

Very interesting photos..i hope we'll have something different from the usual highlanders (nothing against them , but my toy soldiers collection is composed for the most part by scottish soldiers!) ..i really have great expectations for this series, i 'm collecting slowly the Zulu range but i can't afford the great pieces (hospital and storehouse)..the Sudan is full of horse and camel soldiers so it will be expensive too, but with the kind of dipatches typical of WB i think i can cope..searching in my favourite bookstore i found there's a promotion to download freely a certain aount of E-bboks..i found this on Sudan , seems intereting to me..there's a pic of Sir Hector McDonald too..one of the most unfortunate soldiers of the Empire (regardin' his fate).

Don't forget the 2 BW Sudan glossies coming along. They will look great in multiples.

The standing figure with the 21st Lancer is a Grenadier Guardsman.

There are also books published in the 1880s and 1890s on Google books written by those in the Sudan War that can also be downloaded free as pdfs.

Randy,

Thanks for the correction on the Grenadier Guardsman.

I shall keep a look out for the BW glossies.

Raymond.
