My Western European Diorama Under Construction (1 Viewer)

Just viewing your dio while I sit in a Viking operated river boat on the Rhone in France, just makes viewing the forum even more special. With some of the buildings I have seen inspires me to contract my model maker for more. Robin.

Doing it tough hey Robin! ^&grin I can imagine what your seeing as I remember my last trip to Europe. Be careful in getting to many ideas for your model maker, you may need to build another man cave or add another story to your existing one!

Tom, I'm just now catching up on this thread and have to say it's really turning out terrific. Great job on the layout and all the details. Creek looks nice and all the different types of vegetation in the scene help make it realistic. Great job overall. Will be a great versatile piece to do many different displays on. Hope to see you create many different scenarios with figures and vehicles in the future with this set up.

Thanks Duke, I'm still doing the finishing touches and adding a little more grass tuffs to give it a more thicker grass look. The flowering is almost complete and i'll finish off grassing the rocky hill this week. Have got a number of scenes in mind, just have to find the time to set it up and do a photo shoot.

Hello all

It's been a while since I last updated this thread so I thought I would announce officially that my diorama is now finished! Since my last lot of pic's I installed the 4th (and last) pine edge trim, I painted all the trim in an acrylic gloss black and I also smoothed over the outside of the hill with plaster and paris and then gave it a coat of acrylic light grey paint. I also added some more grass here and there, installed another power pole, connected all the poles together and put door handles on the front and rear doors of the farm house. The power lines are braided fishing line from my fishing kit and I painted the line with flat black spray paint (I got the paint from the hardware store) and then attached them to the poles with PVA glue. The door handles are simple to make, I bent a paper clip into two little sections, cut the sections to the right size (that was a little fiddly considering how small they are) and then attached them onto two small squares of tin foil that I cut using a scalpel. Again, it was a bit fiddly gluing the handles and tin foil together (I almost super glued my fingers together!) but I thought the results looked okay so I then painted the handles and mounting plates (tin foil) with a bit of Vallejo Natural Steel acrylic paint (this is very nice paint to use) and then stuck them onto the doors with super glue after the paint had dried.

Here are some pic's showing the end result of my diorama.

The door handles have come up a treat. That lonely halftrack looks so good. You can imagine what is happening here. Stopping near a deserted farm house, scouting the road ahead, expecting who knows what about to appear ahead. This is a magic dio landscape. Robin.

Tom, this is just stunning, can see you using this over and over. I love the attention to details. Great way to start my day. Very well done. Chris

Hello all

It's been a while since I last updated this thread so I thought I would announce officially that my diorama is now finished!
Tom

Watching this come together...with all your ideas and completion of same has been very enjoyable !

You are very talented.

Thank you for sharing the results of your efforts.

Amazing final product.

You can't leave it at that now you have finished, another large scale dio is order! :wink2: As # 2 asked please post a better pic of the door handles. One tip I picked up from you doing this is the 'Magic Water' it is by far the best product of its type and recommend any one thinking of using it to do so....much better than realistic water.
Wayne.

You know my opinion of your scenic gem and this has not changed. Adding the final touches has enhanced the diorama and you must be a relieved man after a huge undertaking. With my own current project i'm starting to feel some pressure but it keeps me occupied intead of doing nothing. Looking forwrd to your next endeavour. Greg.

I can only envy the staying power. That's been an epic project and the result worthy of the time. :salute::

Thanks mate and you and # 1 sure don't ask for much! ^&grin No worries, I'll take a couple of close up snaps over the weekend.

Thanks Robin and yeah, that's a good story and as you know, I have that many dio scene's in mind I don't know where to begin!

Thanks Chris, glad I had a hand in starting your day off well.

My house is pretty big mate but if I make another dio of this size, I'll have to get an extension built! {eek3}^&grin Thanks mate and no worries, I'll pop a couple of pic's on over the weekend. Yeah, the magic water is awesome, I can't say enough on how good it is to use and the excellent results you can achieve.

Cheers Greg and your dio is coming along really nicely and the more time you spend on it, the greater the results will be. Keep at it mate, it's a labour of love.

I can only envy the staying power. That's been an epic project and the result worthy of the time. :salute::

Thanks Bob and some days I questioned my staying power but I'll echo Greg's words and say that it kept me occupied when I didn't have much to do and it's better than doing nothing on a slow day.

Thanks everyone else for the likes.

Tom,
Not much I can add to what has already been said. This is a work of art as has been mentioned already, a stunning achievement on a number of levels, something to cherish for years. So many possibilities to create large displays. Thanks for taking us through the entire process from start to finish, it's been a fun ride for all of us......................

Thanks Tony, if you have gotten something out of my diorama then it gives me a lot of personal satisfaction.

Wayno's # 1 and 2, here are some close up pic's of me door handles. They don't look like much but I reckon they do the trick.
