Jim's (jac28) thread on his workbench and Barzo display inspired me to put up some pictures I took of mine, so here they are. The left half of the table:

And here's the right half:

the_forge_02.jpg

My kit stash is behing the camera's perspective.

My brother nicknamed this "The Forge", but I've since moved the casting pot out to the garage.

I've got some scrap lumber scrounged to add a lower section for storage, and eventually, I want to put more of a back on the thing. When that's done, the next time I move, I think this'll stay behind, it'll be too big to move.

Anyway, this is where I'm spending the winter evenings.

Prost!

Nice space, you seem to have a high equipped and organized cave man,

Thanks for sharing.

Rod.

Brad - it looks like another great space! Lots of work and fun take place there I imagine.. thx for posting the photos.

Jim

Its always fun to see another collectors area! You can just imagine all the pleasant hours spent there working on his hobbys!

Hope you stay warm on those cold nights!

Great little workshop Brad, nice to see where "things happen" I have a little room off of my office need to get in there and get it set up soon.

And there was me thinking you had 3 figures on the go, rather than 103

Looks a busy place with plenty going on. Cheers Brad.

Simon

Thanks for the kind words, guys, and glad you enjoyed seeing "The Forge"!

LOL!

Good eye, Jeff, good eye! You've spotted another set of figures in progress on the bench, a group of four Jäger. Here's a closer shot of them:

4ScheidJager1.jpg

These are figures by Jack Scheid, who was a contemporary of Bill Imrie and Clyde Risley, making figures intended to be miniatures, rather than toy soldiers. He also produced some large dioramas that were displayed at West Point, including one of the Redcoats deploying at Lexington.

Scheid passed away some 10 years ago or more. He was from my area, in Easton, PA, and his widow made arrangements with Ron Ruddell of London Bridge Toys to start casting again, but I don't think Ron ever got them to the market. Scheid's catalog covered various periods of history, too, not just American history.

Ron described Scheid's talent once by saying he saw him take a block of solder and carve it into a master figure for a mold.

I have maybe 50 or so castings by Scheid, and these, I'm painting as Hessen-Cassel Jäger, for my Minden display. For some reason, I had an idea to fix them to a base before painting them, but I should have known, it just makes it harder.

Anyway, I'll post more pics of them, when I get back to them. I'd like to get them off my bench :D

Look closely, you'll see some more green scattered about the bench, here and there. Plus, my favorite sweater's green, too.

Prost!

Brad,
Ah, a fellow below-ground dweller! Get that oil tank out to the garage forthwith! Too bad I replaced it with a water softener and heater:mad:
Nice space-Cluttered means it's being used!

Brad, How's this coming along? Thanks for the info on yet another manufacturer that I hadn’t heard off.

Jeff

THought I'ld join in the fun and post a pic of where I do my painting and playing. I'm an underground dweller as well and was forced to clean out the base during the holidays so I took a few pics while I could still move around in it. HAHA.

This season's already seen a new oil burner installed, and a new water heater-the old one sprung a leak the weekend before Christmas, that's why there's no carpet anymore.

I've gone through 360 gallons of heating oil so far this season, the Gore Effect. Thank God we're halfway through the winter at this point.

Brad,
Ah, the joys of home ownership! If it's not one thing, it's several others. No carpet at the moment here, since the water softener drain hose did an immaculate disconnnect from the main. Carry On!

Looks like a fun place to spend an evening or two!

Well it's not so clean at the moment. It is a good place to paint and play.
