napoleonics releases and the plumes (1 Viewer)

The K & C colors appear more vivid in that example and I think that is their main attraction for most collectors. What K & C may lack in accuracy at times they certainly make up with visual appeal. That said, the First Legion seem more real and the way they have posed the rear most horse with one leg on a base is amazing - and not easy to do I dare say.

Look one can make a perfect figure. Those Russians do it all the time. But if you are going to charge 3000 GBP for an Assyrian Chariot when the K and C Egyptian one weighed in at less than 100 GBP then one has to think again. We have seen itl before. New companies arrive with a big splash and then fade. K and C despite all its faults puts new releases on the shelves month in and month out. I like the First Legion stuff and who knows I might get hold of that artillery set. I hope First Legion do succeed and go on to produce figures for a quarter of a century like K and C or a century like Britains. Their first offerings look very good. But let us see if they are in for the long haul. I for one hope they are.
Regards

Hey Damian,
Couldn't have put it better myself. I also like what I see of 1st Legion, and I also wish them every success.
I'm kinda out of the Napoleonics scene at the moment, to many other eras I'm interested in right now, but when I do return to Naps, I think at least some of the 1st Legion figures will be 1st on the wish list.
Cheers

Quote from Oberstoskar Face and Sculpt

"All First Legion figures have different facial expressions and the anatomical contour (the sunken orbits, nasolabial folds, the maxillary protrusions of both cheeks, philtrum dimple on the upper lip) is much more detail than K&C. K&C figures have flat faces in comparison."
End of quote

This is supposed to be toy soldier collecting but you are starting to sound like that treacle Scully off the X-Factor (or is it X Files?). You know when she is doing an autopsy job on her kitchen table on one of those alien type creatures that you find all the time in the USA? Contrary to popular opinion I believe this series is actually based on a true story. Lighten up please and stop using long words that nobody understands.

Apart from that part of the review the rest was quite informative and easy to undertstand.

All the best RD

Well said! I would certainly like to see more Cav in "standard poses" as it would give me the ability to mass a decent size Cav formation. The action poses only happened toward the climax of a charge what about moving up or wheeling about etc? The only exception I see is the arty sets where I would like to see at least two or three different poses. Perhaps do two sets (A&B) with slight variations for a couple of the figures? I would be willing to pay extra for this option:)

Have had the same thoughts about artillery sets often...o/w usually buy 2 and end up arranging the figures a bit differently to create a more varied appearance which is okay, but love the A&B concept for sure.

If I had any artistic skill I might try to reconfigure a few poses myself . Fortunately, the still fresh memory of too many wrecked & ruined childhood models stays my, you are not alone Gordon, clumsy "Big Hands" from inflicting yet more carnage:D.

I bought two Black Watch figures from Miniwelt ( a regimental flagbearer and a drummer ), just to complete a small diorama with K&C's Black Watch figures ( I'll try and post a photo soon ). Just love those K&C highlanders. Somehow the Highlanders are always some of the best K&C figures ( check WWI or Napoleonics )...
Back to Miniwelt, the quality is very good and to me they mix well with K&C, but the price difference is bigger than the quality one...;)

H, do you have any TinBay, Figurine Emporium or any Russian/East european toy soldiers? What do you think of them (besides being very expensive)? Can you show photos of them? (or you simply won't admit that you've bought anything else other than K&C worrying you've offended Mr. Andy?)

Mr Andy takes some offending.....You can do it, but you really have to try hard.
There are plenty of photos of our collection posted in this forum. If you were to stop greetin'n'moanin' for a few minutes at a time you'd find them easily enough. But then again, I suppose its easier to crow about the "imagined" demise of the best TS manufacturer out there, than to peruse a forum that is mostly comprised of enthusiastic TS collectors.
No Regards

Great idea - A & B Artillery Sets ! :D

I think you really need those - especially in the Napoleonic Range ! It would be great if K&C would come out with a "B" set for the Old Guard and British Lighthorse Sets. You really need this to show a good strength in Artillery for a diorama.

As for First Legion - like I said - I need a closer look for an opinion to be given.

Hmm? I think my bring on the Legions comment should be clarified. While I certainly look forward to seeing First Legion figures, I was refering to the comment about collecting fewer soldiers because of cost, space etc... so the "bring on the legions" comment was just a rally cry for hordes and hordes of additional troops:)

Will look at these with great interest. I'm trying to see exactly where the flabbylabial whatcha macall it is to be honest!

Well that photo is interesting - looks like a close fit? Still need to see the figure in the flesh - .... so to speak :)

go click on the magnifying glass icon on webshot for 'original size photo' in the webshot page and you will see the details of the eyes, the folds just below the cheeks and the upper lip dimple. (sorry'bout the jargons that I used earlier)

K&C figures look rather flat faced in comparison.

The soldiers were not whearing plumes during batlle. This was just to expensive. They had them in their bags and only whore them during parades.

So K&C is correct!

Hi Harry,

I am not an expert but my understanding is that JPB is correct except for the Russians.

At this point, I prefer the opinion of Dragoon as he corroborates his statement with references (Osprey Men at Arms # 185, Russian Army Napoleonic Wars, pg.22 and Histoire & Collections book, Borodino-The Moskova, The Battle of the Redoubts, pg.16) which is not the case with JPBs declaration. But, I repeat it, I am not an expert.

Also, common sense has nothing to do with historical accuracy even if the Russians were keeping their plumes in their *** during the battles.

Cheers,
Pierre.
