This is going to strike a nerve for a lot of you muchachos and I thought it would be fun to discuss.

Have you ever looked at your collection and kind of shook your head saying "Man, I remember saying there was no way ID EVER get into that range" yet, here you are.

I know for me I used to pass by KC's Ancient Egyptians without a second glance- that is until I visited the Field Museum in Chicago back in 2007 (?) and BAM, I was hooked on all things Egyptian. I even didnt have any interest in Rome (yes, believe it or not ) until about 2-3 years ago.

Now, I just returned from a week long stint in Flagstaff Arizona and I find myself strongly looking over Southland Miniatures "Grattan Massacre" line- yes, I know it didnt happen in Flagstaff, I am just interested in collecting the Native Americans. Two weeks ago it wasnt even a distant consideration.

Anyone else get a kick out of looking back at why they started collecting something when they were so adamantly completely disinterested only a short while before??

I"m with you on that. I started out with K&C Battle of the Bulge then saw the Afrika Korps and Eighth Army. Last year I was up in Wisconsin at Iron Brigades home and saw his Crimean war diorama and one thing led to another. Oh also his K&C WW1 German troops on parade. Him and his Wife have one of the most impressive Streets of Hong Kong displays anywhere. I want to pull that trigger in the worst way. Long story short sometimes it's the way you see them that gets you started on any range.

I've been having pretty good "fire" discipline with my WWII collecting. I was tempted with WB War-Along-the-Nile series. Now, FL Samurai is calling me. JJD WWI airplanes are sharp too. And what about Figarti's Abrams tank? Yikes!

I started with K&C then moved to others, such as...Figarti, Frontline, Trophy, LL and many modern K&C...now I have sold all of it to stay focused in a slimmer fashion. Most everything now is K&C Glossy with a few exceptions of the new release items and older rare pieces. For whatever reason I favor the older flat bases and do not care much for terrain type bases....which must mean in another year or so I'll be into terrain bases{eek3}

Definately me as well Chris, i started out collecting K&C WW2 Normandy only and wasn't going to collect anything else until i dabbled into the Bulge, then AK and EA, then got hooked on Figarti's WW2 Normandy and AK vehicles and artillery, then stumbled onto a few HB AFV's must have's, then CS, then TG, then a couple of FL AK AFV's and now collecting food stamps....:rolleyes2:^&grin

I have been there so I can understand how it happens.I simply got rid of everything not WWII ETO and since last year decided to stick with it. But there is no guarantee
it will stay that way........{eek3}

I have been a collector for many years and I never thought I would have the opportunity to collect such a variety of Aussie figures covering both world wars (Thanks Andy).

My initial interest in 1/30 matt figures were German WWII sets, especially A/Korps, LAH and Waffen SS. Then I bought some allied sets to even the account, Germans and other Allied have since all been sold. Now it's Aussies only, except of course when a bargain appears on ebay that I can resell.

I don't stick to any ranges and just buy what I think looks good or interests me. Civillian to military and anything in between. I have in my mind a list of things that I don't have interest in like Naps, ACW, ALH, and the never in that will never change. Anything else is fair game

It's a good question, Chris. I've stuck to my favorite areas, as far as figures are concerned. Though, like Mitch, I've bought some things that caught my eye.

It has happened to me more in scale modeling, though. When I got back into that hobby, I said I'd wouldn't build 1/72 kits, because they're just to small, and a lot are just not as detailed as kits in larger scales. But I've found that I've built as many 1/72 aircraft as 1/48 (my preferred scale), and I've got almost as many in my stash as I do the larger kits.

To me it's not so much a range not peeking my intrest.
It's going thru the rooms at Chicago every year and
saying nice range , but stick with the three or four ranges
you want Chuck!!!

Then several years later , after getting a few pieces, trying to locate all
the rest of the retired range.

I never intended to collect WW1 then WB came out with the early 1914 series and I bought it,
and now I have a whole cabinet of all the ONWTS, JJ Planes,and am collecting the newest WB release.
(I still need wb 17633 if anyone wants to give it up{sm4})

Wanted WW2 and Somerset L of A when I switched from plastic to metal , I now have WW1 , Nile/Sudan , Vikings , Zulu , Am Rev ,
Romans, Samurai , Nap , Am Civil War , Indian Revolt , Crimean , and A TON of old gloss.
How the He## did bands get in my collection???

Crazy Hobby I say.

I just love all of it, as long as the money lasts I will keep going, space is no issue just cabinets and I can make them. The only things I won't collect are NAPS, WW2 US and WW2 Germans but that is just my taste, so it is all good for me and after all that is what it is all about.....FUN.

Hello John (ROUGH RIDER):

Thanks for your very nice comments about some of my and with regards the Streets of Old Hong Kong display "our" display. We would be glad to have you over again later this year for another little visit to see my new displays set up since last November 2011 if you get up to Wisconsin again. Ah, one thinks you are just about done getting anything new and then you see something thet "you just have to have", ha, ha. But, it is a splendid hobby to be in!
