Thank you for your input Rob. Me, I know some of the issues surrounding that period of time-and some of the current discussion- it isn't so much that I support either point of view, as I feel as an American, I really have no right to go either way, but I guess I am still smitten with the "Braveheart" bug and just want to keep that going.
Thanks bud,
CC
Been thinking about this Chris - and its maybe not quite as limited as I first thought. It could actually be in 3 parts.
a) Early 1st War of Independence with Wallace and Chums, Stirling Bridge, Falkirk, Guerrilla Warfare.
Please - Please - no blue paint on faces....!!!!
b) Mid 1st War of Independence
Bruce's struggle against the Comyns/Balliols/MacDougalls
Personalities;
King Robert the Bruce
Sir James Douglas
Sir Alexander Seton
Sir Alexander Fleming
Earl of Lennox
Red Comyn
Earl of Buchan
Edward I (Boo.....Hiss....)
and for the ladies;
Queen Elizabeth De Burgh
Isabel, Countess of Buchan
Christina of Gamoran
Events;
The Crowning of Bruce at Scone by the Countess of Buchan
Battle against the MacDougalls at the Pass of Brander
Bruce and the Spider
c) Mid to Late 1st War of Independence
Bannockburn (of course)
Personalities;
A slightly more grand Sir James Douglas (try the following link)
http://uk.geocities.com/snow_man1uk/Randolph, Earl of Moray
Keith the Earl Marishal
Bishop Lamberton
Angus Og MacDonald, Lord of the Isles
Edward II (ha-ha-ha)
Must Have Event;
De Bohun on his warhorse in full armour charging Bruce on a pony and armed only with a battleaxe on the first day of the battle.
d) 2nd War of Independence
Bit more difficult, but how about "Black Agnes of Dunbar" - so called cos of her dark coloured hair and sallow complexion, inherited no doubt from her father, Randolph Earl of Moray.
A display of her on the ramparts of Dunbar castle showing her disdain for Edward Balliol's siege machinery would be pretty good.
What do you think Chris?
