Has anyone gotten their ACW Zouave Sets yet ?

I am very interested hearing about the size of the figures and how they look up close. The pictures we all have seen are wonderful and I plan to buy these figures - However, I am a little concern about the Sons of the South size issue.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hello Capitolron, also I'm very intersted about the size.

Ron and ANV Joe Bakers posted a number of photos featuring the Zouaves along side of ACW figures which appear on his BLOG on Conte's Web Site as well as photos here on the forum and from what I see in the photos they appear the same scale wise an blend in nicely together. If you have spent any time viewing the photos closely I recommend you do by zooming in on the in the photos......The Lt.

Here's a shot that has the Zouaves set up with older figures. You can see that they match up with them. No SOS size issues.

Thanks Guys - appreciate the feedback.

I am very excited about the range and look forward to buying them all. Although, I still paying for my wife's shopping spree in Paris on our vacation - it might be a few more weeks before they make it to Washington, DC

I just received my first 3 sets at work. Someone from Conte personsally delivered them. A quick peak was exciting. More later.

I unboxed my 1st 3 sets of the new zouaves. I got the casualties, the officer on horseback shooting the Reb, and the hand-to-hand knife fight. I can't wait to add some shooting and loading figures and expand the group. They are not my favorite ACW group going - that honor goes to Britains 2nd Wisconsin advancing at Gettysburg - but they are close behind. I have been waiting for zouaves like this for years, and I am extremely happy with them. No one does better action figures than Conte and Collectors Showcase right now, in my opinion. If you collect ACW figures, you really need to get a few and see what you think. As far as size goes, I never bought any of the SOS figures everyone complains about, but these fit extremely well with earlier Conte figures in regards to size. I have tons of those.

Thanks - for the info - that helps a lot.

I did happen to see these figures in Gettysburg last week. They are a must have for sure. ;) I love the color and action with them.

Just need to finish paying off my Amex from the Paris trip last month !:eek:

I've got mine, all except for the flagbearer, Command sets, and the guys falling wounded, which I've preordered. I'm very happy with them. I have a few of the Sons of the South, and display them with my other figures. They are just a little taller but that is because the bases are thicker than normal. I don't think they look terribly out of place. Some people are taller then others in real life. I saw on the Britains thread that they will have some Zouaves released as part of thier Civil War line in a year or two. I hope that they are the same regiment so that I may combine them with my Contes and lengthen my line of battle.

Just ordered all the sets...Whoooohoooo, cannot wait to get them..Also got all the 146th New York Garrard’s Tiger Zouaves sets from Collectors Showcase!!!! Oh crap.....I JUST SPENT A LOT OF $$$$$$ Oh well, can't take it with you!!!

The WB Zouaves are to be the 114th PA and are to compliment the WB Zouave stretcher bearer - also of the 114th PA. The 114th fought in the Peach Orchard on the second day of the battle at Gettysburg . . . I believe they will be out next year. Zouaves will certainly add a splash of color to the battlefield.

Does this mean they are taller than the SOS figures ? I would love to see some comparison pics with both ranges. Or with some early Conte releases.

Check out the photo posted by Joe Baker and his comments in post number 4 of this thread.

That's a great picture, but I just like to see simple side by side comparison pictures. Preferably with a ruler next to the figures. No offence, but the SOS range was shown in pictures with other figures when it was released. That is what got me to buy the SOS range and that did not turn out well :)

If I'm not mistaken and I could be if you read nooo9 comments again I believe he was talking about the SOS figures being taller and not the Zouaves. Hopefully someone will reply to your request or confirm Joe Baker's comments to overcome your doubts.

The Zouaves are the same size as the earlier Conte Civil war and Britains figures. The SOS figures are a few millimeters taller because of the thick base. I'm sorry I can't post any pictures because my whole collection is back in Illinois and I am out of the country. I saw the new zouaves when I was home last month. The Conte figures represent the 5th New York and I'm happy with them, I hope they expand the range. The upcoming Britains figures are from the 114th Pennsyslvania. They wore similuar, but not identical uniforms. The 5th NY left the end of thier sash hanging down, not wound completly around the waist like the Keystone State soldiers, and the Pennsylvania soldiers had different cuffs on thier jackets and the less baggy "Chassuer" style trousers. I intend to display them all together, Old Conte, SOS, New Conte, Britains, OTSN, Frontline, Blackcat, painted plastic, whatever. I want to put them all together and let the casual observer be overwhelmed by the awesomeness.

Found a few vintage photos of the Zouaves I thought I'd share.
