New airfix releases 1/32nd scale ww2 (1 Viewer)

The paintable plastic sounds interesting to me, as long as the plastic lasts a long time (short term durability with regard to breakage due to handling doesn't concern me that much, as I would use them as I use model kits)

Hi

You should all have a look at Steve Westons website as he has an incredibly large range of figures for sale. He is also the main distributor for the excellent Replicants range of figures sculpted by Peter Cole - these are unique and special figures worthy of a good paint job.

Also the new Airfix kits wont be the full range, so if you want Gurkhas and Australians etc... then look at Steves site. He also has a range of vehicles to compliment these figures.

Dude, before you copy the figures it would be respectful to ASK Airfix's current owners about the copying, even if it's in a different scale. I'm not sure about the copyright issues with figures, but it never hurts to tread lightly.

Hi

the set of British Infantry are WW2 Dunkirk period soldiers (not the Modern 1980's figures depicted on some of the artwork on some websites)

Thanks for the link. Looking forward to these, but I don't see the Russians, and I'd love to see the Italians released as well, those are so hard to get.

I assume they are testing the water with the most obvious choices in 1/32. For a first re-release I think it is a pretty big batch. But I agree, we need the more exotic sets as well. I'm hoping for the Cold War ones, the Space Warriors (yes, really) and the Medieval warriors. And the entire Waterloo series of course. All at nice prices (GBP 5.69/14 pcs) for us EU guys anyway.

I don't want to sound sour but if they are trying to resurrect AIRFIX then why not try a few new sets. Rather than all the old favorites. I have most of them all from back in teh 1970's so I am not going to rush out to buy more 8 th army etc. Italieri have been taking their 1:72 figures and upscaling them to 1:32 using computer graphics. Now imagine if AIRFIX did that with their 1:72 RHA or British Commando's or Paras.
It would be awesome.

I think this is an excellent point, as most of these sets have been decently cloned and available for a while. I hope they come out with a few new offerings and bring back some of the modern sets (like the British infantry with SLRs).

Cool.

I hope they get the marketing strategy right for these. If the price is right, the advertising good, and the retail outlets varied and accessible enough, I could see this being one of the most major steps in getting young blood in to toy soldiers for the past 2+ decades, at least in the UK.

I know what my kids, nephew, friends kids etc will be getting for birthdays from no on in. :D

Simon

Seems to me they had the price on the Airfix site (which I don't have in front of me). I thought it was around 6pounds, which generally would be in the $10 range here. Not a bad price. I plan on getting more, even though I got bunches of them in different colors from some of the reissues folks over the last few years.

Just got a email from Hornby. I asked about about the properties of the plastic used.

They use a K-Resin (Philips developed several I found during a quick google) which is, according to Hornby, durable, sturdy and fully paintable.

I thought this might be of interest.

The new boxed Airfix 1/32nd WW2 soldiers re-releases are on general sale - some on ebay UK site
