Another Durbar fan. We need to stick together. Devil Dancers and Monks Oh my! All the above is true as far as Pat and Dave are concerned. They are great guys and loads of knowledge. Don't let me forget Damian and the others either. The camarderie is wonderful.

Bite of approval,,

Hi Jae,

The Marlborough line is aces in my book! I really enjoy the detail and they have a bunch of civilian on lookers that add a great twist to the line. Afterall would it be a parade with out anyone watching?

Go to their website and take a look they are at the following address:

www.marlboroughtoysoldiers.com

Check them out and one other thing that is nice about them is they do pop up on ebay on a regular basis.

All the best

Dave

Jae,

Welcome to the Forum. If there is anything I can to do help, please let me know. Regarding the Chicago Show, take a look at this discussion. I've listed some information here, http://www.treefrogtreasures.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3375

I wouldn't wait too long as rooms do tend to get booked. The Hyatt's generous cancellation policy allows you to cancel very close to the beginning of the show so you may want to book just to hold the rooms.

Sorry pat that is one of the few that I have found. I will try again in the future to locate more. Don't you wish that was in color?

If you want photos .... I'll show you photos!

Go to http://www.gerty.ncl.ac.uk/

Click on Photos at the bottom

Then click on Album RTW Volume 1 on the left

Start around image #195.

These are some of Gertrude Bell's images from the Durbar.

A bit cumbersome to view, but great stuff!

Hi KV

Its a great link one that I have been running through for a while and her diary is interesting reading too.

i am sure you will really enjoy this site!

Dave

I feel most honored to get a bite of approval from the kilted vampire. I've been reading your posts for a couple of weeks now (I am not above a bit of eavesdropping). You are just such a welcoming bunch. Thank you.

Love the pic. I have one with a great shot of the parade route, I don't know... maybe taken by Gertrude Bell? There are several elephants in a row and what appear to be a few "flying nuns" watching. I will post it as soon as I can. As I told Pat, I'm also waiting on a Britain's elephant from the UK and when it gets here, I will take some pics and post them, although you guys probably have much better collections than mine.

Again, thanks for the welcome!

Jae

Which elephant ? I can hardly wait for the piccie!

The Duke and Duchess of Connaught State Elephant. You guys are great! You get just as excited about other people's purchases as you do your own.

I'm going to try and take a pic of that postcard scene (although they have another name other than postcard - anyone know what they're called?) It is curved from age so I don't think it will lay flat enough to scan. I think it will photograph okay.

My best,

Jae

That is a great elephant and one that I am looking for. You are so lucky! Do they have any more? Looking forward to your pic. And yes, we live extraneously through our friends:)

I got it off of Ebay, and I understand some of you don't do Ebay. I believe there is one in an Ebay store but if I recall correctly, it is way too expensive.

I am trying to attach that picture of "The most gorgeous of earth's pagents" that is copyrighted 1903 by Underwood and Underwood (doesn't copyright run out after 50 years? Anyway, credit where credit is due). However, my jpg file is too big and my bitmap file just won't upload to the site. I end up on an Explorer "can't find the page you're looking for" site. Any suggestions?

My best,

Jae

Hi Jae,

For the photo, do you have it on your computer? If you copy it to your computer you should be able to edit it in your photo program under the resize option and make it smaller so it will fit on the site here. As for the copyright issue I think you are probably ok if you post it and give the proper credit to the company that published it first. You also can check on line and see if the company still exsists and if it does I am sure they have some sort of a relase form you can get. Chances are though they are not around so as long as they are credited you should be fine.

All the best

Jae,

If you're having trouble, just send it to me and I'll post it. Copyright law can vary on different kinds of creations although I think the risk is small by posting it. Plus, it's not being done for profit.

Well said by one of the many fine lawyers on this Forum.

Jae asked me to post this. I hope it doesn't appear too small.

Hi Guys,

I've seen a lot of these recently. They are very interesting and if you have the viewer the detail is susposed to be quite good. I just wish they had them in color. Oh well at least Mortimer Menpes and his wife did a very good book with color plates its just really difficult to get a good copy. I nearly had one last year but the seller must have gotten a better offer since my money was refunded with out explaination.

If you want to see some nice pictures go to the bell site mentioned before and check out her photos the ones from her travels are just as interesting as the Durbar photos

All the best

Dave

Apparently at the Battle of Omdurman there was a film crew on board one of the paddle boats that filmed the oncomming hordes but the film was exposed and lost. It would have been the first live footage of action and it would have been spectacular if it survived. The Delhi Durbar was about 3 years later so it is a pity that there was no live footage of this event as far as we know
