New Catalogue 2008 (2 Viewers)

Hello Good People,
Thank you for all your kind words. They really do make our day.
I wanted to post pictures of my favourite AWI set but I can't seem to find any pictures of it painted. But I do have photos of the finished scuplted before paint. To be truthful, I really like to look of the unpainted sculpts, all the tiny details jump out at you.

Thank you!

PS-Randy, the trees in the Artillery scenic are Hudson & Allen Shrubbery. Ken scratch built the pine tree.

Hello Ericka

As an art historian I also love to look at the original sculptures which are works of art in themselves. Do you and Ken know the work of 19th C American sculptor John Rogers, creator of the mass-produced "Rogers Groups" that decorated American Victorian parlors thoughout the latter half of the 19th C? I have attached a typical one below:

Hello Randy,
Yes, we too love the Rogers scuplts. Ken has 3 of them including the one you pictured. We also have "Going to the Parson" and "Checkers up at the Farm". We are in the process of restoring our 1850's house (a very, very slow process). When done we hope to have a side parlour with enough windows and light to be able to display them properly. Rogers did some amazing work.
Thank you,
Best Wishes,
Ericka

Wow--what a coincidence. Rogers would have made a great toy soldier sculptor. His vignettes are now being rivaled by Ken and his cohorts:)
Do the master sculpts get preserved? They should be saved and perhaps added to a WB or toy soldier museum.
Randy

Hi Randy,
We agree that Rogers would have probably been one of the best in the business. As for the originals, sadly, they are usually severely damaged or destroyed in the molding process. We often preserve a clean resin copy for future reference.
All the best,
Ken & Ericka

Hi Randy!
In one of the earlier posts you had a question about the scenic used in the photo of the 4th Battalion Royal Artillery 6 pdr. This one of several scenic bases I have made up for display and photography of various items around the shop, or for W. Britain catalog and show use.
The bases are made up from 1/4" MDF which was then sceniced with various Hudson & Allen Studio items including the preserved leafy item along the back. The pine tree is one of probaby a hundred or so built to date for various projects. It seems like there are always some trees in some stage of construction somewhere around the studio. The long grass is an item that we use here, it is very nice as it will lay flat when you place a vehicle or metal figure on it, and then it will return to an upright position after you remove, or rearrange the items later.
We just finished three such bases for the folks at Treefrog for their new shop, including a winter and a desert base. Perhaps we shall see a few images of them show up sometime in the future.

Ken,

The gun & crew set looks absolutely amazing  I keep coming back to this thread and browsing the pics again and again. The archive series seems like a great idea (although a similar idea was done a couple years ago with the hollowcast series) I hope this one goes from strength to strength.
I also like the mounted officer (the horse puts me in mind of how they used to be drawn in the 18th century)

Keep up the great work !!!!!

Thanks again Uk_Bod for the catalogue pics and also to Ken & Ericka for their pics :)

Regards

Scott

I think you guys at Britains have out done all the other companys including King and Country with these new superb releases. Amazing job!

I just recently joined the Britain's club and am looking forward to receiving my first catalog. The new soldiers look fantastic, especially the "AWI British 6 Pound Gun and Crew" set Ken posted.

Outstanding work again Ken and Richard.

Will either or both of you be at the West Coater this year?

I love the Archive Idea, figures look excellent. I am also very keen on the FIW classic figures, have been waiting for this catalog to make some decisions for 2008. Museum figures surely are a new headache for me:D. Many thanks for posting this images, now have to go and hit the shower:D:D:D

Here is the F&IW, Blue and Red Coats..

Thank you very much for posting these.
It is greatly appreciated!

Has anyone noticed that some of the Redcoats are displayed in a wooden case? I can't see it that clearly but is this being sold by Britains or is it just for display in the catalogue?

I enlarged the picture and yes it is being sold to display the figures. It says Classic Oak Finish Glass Display Case Item #DISP 02 and it refers you to another page for more information. I asume it could be wall mounted or set on a shelf.

Thanks Randy. I wonder if this is the start of a bigger trend for WBritains....

The Cherry Oak Finish Glass Display Case according to the Catalogue holds about 60 figures and comes with two brass hooks on either end to mount on a wall, etc. It comes complete with two glass sliding doors and should accommodate the tallest flags and mounted figures in the Bluecoat and Redcoats range. Price in pound sterling is £199.99.
