Is it me or as no one thought to ask why the new Churchill figure? Looking back over the last few years of figures and vehicles K & C produce ‘diorama sets’. What will figure go with?

I think it's a great figure on its own. I don't know that it really has to go with anything.

Yes I like this figure , it will be a stand alone scene or maybe with Monty or Lord Gort looking on . It's an iconic picture and went down well in the US I understand . It's also well known that the Queen mother practiced pistol shooting in the grounds of Buck Palace, a sort of ' go ahead Kraut, make my day' :wink2:

Probably wouldn't work in a dio (at least not one I can think of) but I have lots of figures like that that I have in one of my cabinets. It's just an iconic pose.

Make the dio that it comes from. Churchill with troops and commanders practising with the tommy gun. Then its historically accurate and would look great. It was the best release from dispatches

Winston & His Tommy-Gun

Hi Treefroggers,

Some threads back a few folks were commenting about Winston and the kind of Thompson he was firing… here’s the photo which inspired the figure… See attached.

If you look at the number of the figure DD105, it should have been out a while ago or it was a club figure.

My Churchill collection would be incomplete without this iconic figure.

I am going for it as soon as it supplied to my local dealer.

Raymond:)

Winston Churchill and Thompson Sub-Machine Gun

Gordon,
I have to salute Andy and you, as you have exceeded all past endeavors, delving into the depths of obscurity to come up with the photograph of Winston Churchill aiming the Thompson Sub-Machine Gun which is used as a reference for your forthcoming figure. I would sincerely appreciate you telling me specifically where you found the photograph.

I had completed a page by page search of THE THOMPSON SUBMACHINE GUN From Prohibition to World War II, M. Pegler, Osprey Publishing, 2010, ISBN: 9781849081498 and SMALL ARMS IN PROFILE, Vol 1, A.J.R. Cormack General Editor, Doubleday and Co., Profile Publications, Garden City, New York, 1973, ISBN 038507887 0. Both documents contain some of the most obscure data and contemporary photographs of the Thompson Sub-Machine gun I have ever found. I also reviewed the classic W.B. H. Smith’s Small Arms of the World, E.C. Ezell, Stackpole Arms, Harrisburg, PA, 1983, 11th Revised Edition and 12th Revised Edition, ISBN 0-88029-601-1. **rther searched an extensive range of reference materials, including obscure Auto Ordnance, Savage Arms, Imperial War Museum, and British Army WWII photographs showing the weapon in use. Additionally I did an internet search using the various available search engines and several excellent in-depth Thompson Sub-Machine Gun web sites.

It was not until I was able to locate a copy set of blueprints including, GRIP, FORE, HORIZONTAL 5564371, showing the 15 deg hole that facilitates augmenting the horizontal fore-grip with the addition of the previous model pistol fore-grip, that I was convinced at least of feasibility. Was going to include copy of blueprint but it exceeded memory size limitations of the forum. Apparently this type of field modification was done on a limited basis both with TSMG and BAR.

Congratulations, even though the photograph of Winston fails to show this detail clearly, your figure certainly does. I will be acquiring one of the figures when it becomes available later this year. I tried to send this query via PM, only to find surprise of surprises, that your mailbox was totally **ll. On the other hand you both can briefly publicly bask in the glory of your efforts.

Best regards,
Arnhem Jim

Really like the figure.....but would like to see Churchill visiting the RAF on a landing field !!!!!!!!{sm4}

RE : Delving into the depths of obscurity…

Hi Treeforggers and Jim,

For those interested… the **ll page black and white photo of Winston and his Tommy-Gun is on page 114 of Martin Bilbert’s excellent “CHURCHILL AT WAR”, his finest hour in photographs 1940-1945 published by the Imperial War Museum and Carlton Books, 2003…

Hope this info helps.

Best wishes,
Gordon C. Neilson

To: King & Country,

Thanks very much for the references.

I collect figures of Churchill from many manufacturers.

Thusfar IMHO, K&C has made the best figures of Churchill in terms of likeness and pose.

Set DD55 is one of the best, if not the best. From the K&C photograph, set DD105 looks very good.

May I suggest you consider a new Battle of Britain version of Churchill.

You might do a dio of Churchill visiting 11th Group HQ at RAF Uxbridge and add Keith Park to this as Dowding has been made.

Great Stuff K&C. Keep it up.

Cheers, Raymond.:)
