New foam building project! (1 Viewer)

Hi Tim,

Wow! That is a great structure you are building! The shingles must be quite labor intensive, not to mention time consuming. Your patience with such a project is quite evident.

I am also impressed with the decks and stairs you have built for the rear of your building. Did you build that structure with popsicle sticks also?

Thanks for sharing your project with us. I anxiously look forward to more pictures as you advance the project toward completion!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks Pat! The staircase was built with various scrap hobby wood I had kicking around but the only popsicle sticks I used on that were on the steps themself of the stair case.

This is a great building Tim and thanks for the pics and for sharing it with us. For the windows you could try the plastic from a CD case and using a very fine permanent marker draw the diamond pattern on the plastic.

Absolutely awsome Fish. Great Work. Looking forward to more pics. Hope the virus gets taken care of.

Fishead,

That is by far the best most detailed building you have ever done! My congratulations to you! Well done old chap!

Tim

You ain't hanging around with this are you Tim?

That looks fantastic, and a heck of a transformation. What have you used for the window leading?

Great stuff.

Simon

Hi Tim,

I want to compliment you on an excellent building! I think it is the best one you have built! It is very impressive! I look forward to seeing your final window treatment. I am sure it will add greatly to the overall appearance of the house.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Thanks guys! I wanted to do a how to thread on this one but my computor keeps freezing up on me and I can,t type or post and spend most of my time typing only to have my computor shut down half way through!:mad::mad:
I wanted to get some feedback on a few ideas on this project but I couldn,t get online or post half the time.
I have a few ideas for windows but think I,m going with the sample window on the front of the building?
Its metal screen placed sideways to look like old style dimond lead windows with clear plastic behind it. I stil need to make a frame for it but you can get a rough idea? It,ll look a lot better with the frame in place.
How do the flower pots and shades above the window look??? And does the Red color look good or should I paint it Brown like the rest of the framing???

Do the stairs look good that color or should I try something differnt???

For the windows on the side of the building I,m going to try and make some pop out 3D windows I,m not shure what you would call them??? 3 sided windows with a little copper roof on them if you know what I mean???

I want to try and dress it up a bit wit a lot of add ons. I think its going to be an Inn. I,ll bend some wire an make a little INN sign for it and make some more hanging flower pots and other little touches? Maybe a clothes line comeing down from the second floor window in the back?

I,ve got a lot of ideas for this but I,m going to take my time and try and make it look pretty good I hope? I have to touch up a lot of the paint.

If I do another one like this I,ll paint the house first and then add the wood trim on after and have it prepainted, because touching it up is a never endng task!

Heres a tip for you guys who like to work with this foam!!! ALWAYS!!!! keep the print on the foam facing the inside of the building becuase the print can bleed through the paint even if you prime with multi layers of paint!!! I cut one of my pieces backwards and the print bleed through and multiple layers of paint would not cover it as it kept bleeding through!
I didn,t want to add any type of kills type primer for fear of melting the foam but a quick layer of wood glue over the area and then another coat of paint after it dried fixed the problem.
This tip might save some of you guys a future headache!!!

It certainly is a fine looking building Tim, personally I would remove the thatched awnings but keep the flowers boxes and leave them red. If I was going to leave the thatch I would paint the wood part of it brown to match the rest of the building. I can't wait to see the next additions to the building. Great stuff !!

Nice seeing you keeping yourself busy with what you really enjoy doing Tim and the buildings coming along nicely and looking forward to seeing it in your next overdue major diorama which I'm sure we'll see once the additional troops your working on and the weather breaks if not sooner. Hope all's well....The Lt.

Hi Tim,

I agree with Scott. I like the flower boxes and I would leave them red in color. However, I think it would be a nice touch if some of the plants were blooming.

At this point, I have to say that whatever you decide to do, it will look great. You are doing a magnificent job!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Here are some photos of a sample pop out windows I was talking about making on the sides. There pretty hard to make and are a lot of work so I might just do the 2 top floors? Would this look funny? Do these look good, are they worth the extra effort? Do they look straight and uniform enough? There pretty tricky to make.
I also threw a quick layer of brown paint over the red on top of the windows as suggested, does this look better? These are just samples with quick paint jobs to get a feel for the overall look.

I forgot to add the repaint window top photo! It just has a real quick coat of brown I know that reds still showing through but this is just a sample.

The bay windows look great Tim. I wouldn't add any more as usually a home may only have 1 or 2 of these. The thatched awnings look great with the brown.
