New Ideas (2 Viewers)

There's a new book out by Benny Morris, formerly a journalist, but now a Professor of History in Israel, that is evenly balanced about the 1948 war, called 1948: A History of the First Arab Israeli War. The book is supposed to be very good.

Here is a review of it in the New Yorker. I am posting this for information only and hope it does not turn into a political debate as yours truly will then be taken out to the woodshed

The Israeli-Arabs would be a nice addition. I believe the Israeli-Arab conflict has also evolved into the war on terrorism which is something we are all affected by.

The Israeli Defene Forces have played a significant role in the development and use of special forces and in expanding operational objectives that would possibly never be considered by other countries. I think that a K&C line based on Israeli-Arab wars would be well received by most military miniature collectors based on the significant contributiions Israel has made to modern warfare.

All of these would be excellent opportunities to be the first military miniature company to entire this market.

When I was a gun dealer I used to sell Hakims. The joke was that they had been dropped only once.

Haha..:D

When i was with the Singapore Armament Dept a few years back, i still remember being surprised at the number of Uzis (normal and mini) that we have in our stockade.

Nobody in Singapore (army, special Ops or enforcement) uses these ever, so i went to ask our old timer Foreman, who was here from the beginning of Dept around 35 years ago.

he told me that the Uzis were an ongoing part of a secret defense agreement package we had signed with the new state of Israel back then.

singapore, and Israel, were then newly independent and were surrounded by Muslim nations. So a bond was cast, and it remains that way ever since.

The Israeli military advisers that came here, were passed of as mexicans. Naturally, they knew little latin, so we were very careful to host them and filter out other foreign visitors.

Why non of our boys uses Uzi? i asked him.

he revealed that we did testing on the normal Uzis and found a problem with the trigger mechanism, which jams when dropped. The Uzi has its many strength but was also deemed not rugged enough for the asian terrain. the mini Uzi has lesser problems i recall.

However, we didn't want to upset the Israelis and so continue purchasing the Uzis. We did manage to fix the problem though, but recommended the Uzis to be kept as strategic reserve weapon.

a small little history note.

sincerely,

nasir kasmani.

well i guess thats why the IDF uses m-16 :)
although the Uzi did help us win the six day war !!!!

The Israeli Army originally adopted the Uzi as a weapon for battlefield use and then relegated to a weapon for house to house fighting. The units that used the UZI in the 1967 war were supplemented by soldiers that carried the FN. Evenetually the Uzi became a weapon for non-frontline combat personnel.

When I was a gun dealer I used to sell Hakims. The joke was that they had been dropped only once.

Another thing i recall -

The ironic thing is that when singapore first sought out help, we almost got egypt. So Singapore could have easily got our numerous Hakims.

Dropped or otherwise.;)

I know this category doesn't really fit in but I would like to see different Special Response Teams (SRT aka SWAT) from around the world. Maybe make a series that involved real life events like the ATF and FBI raid on the Branch Davidians, Hollywood shootout etc...If your from another country help me out for other examples.
