New KC Sd. Kfz. vs. New CS Hanomag (1 Viewer)

Terry and Frank have hit the nail on the head. At the prices KC & CS are asking, I feel the collector is getting a good deal for their money. If perfection is wanted, big dollars are paid for it as in HB gold, and what FL appears to be headed for. I am happy with the lower prices and reasonable accuracy. Besides, in the field of history, saying something is wrong or could not have existed is a slippery slope for those who were not there. Even the best source material can be incomplete or wrong. Soon as someone says "absolutly couldn't be", proof turns up to illustrate the exception. At any rate, I like these new half-tracks.:D -- Al

Just my POV...I still have problems with those hinges. Still like the model but will modify it and make it flushed to the hood. I found some resource materials at Accurate Armor. They have belts, buckles and hinges. But on the second thought, why spend $169 when I have to do all these? The KC will be an easier. Fashion a rectasngular bolted plate with sheet styrene and glue in place.

So for today, KC for me is a go, and for CS, I'll mull it over thru the weekend

I tend to think they both have their virtues-one as a transport, one as a mobile AT gun-and are both welcomed additions to the market. I'm probably in the minority, but am not as concerned with the possible identifed detail issues as much as I'm thrilled to have these options on a 251 platform. My kinda problem to have.

I guess the easy answer for those that still have a concern is to pencil in a closed viewport ;)

So friends… there you have it… even experts like Conrad can make mistakes sometimes.

I wasn't the one who made the mistake... LOL!

Here, I fixed your picture so now it's (partly) correct. Too bad I can't fix the actual product itself. N-P's suggestion about adding a styrene plate is a great idea for a home made fix, but for the $170 asking price really shouldn't be necessary. Unless one is super rich that is a big chunk of change in this economy for the average working man. Just try convincing your wives that $170 is chump change! :)

As for Oz's suggestion to pencil in a viewport, that might work too, it would go along with the engine hatch which also looks like it's penciled in on this model. The hinges on CS's model are a little annoying, but at least they provide a three dimensional effect.

Anyway, otherwise this is a nice enough model.

Aaaah CS, you're such a wag at times. Thanks for brightening up my day.

Now I am all confused. 2 pictures of the KC Hanomag were posted on this thread. One has the front viewport the other hasn't so which is which? I am not talking about the side viewport. Was the bottom one photoshopped? The top one was released by KC in the initial announcement.

I think Canadian Samuri photoshopped the passenger side armoured viewport. Did a good job of it too.

I agree in totality - we are all collectors and not Mr.perfect :D:)

As an example, I recently told Brian of Collectors Showcase that having a SdKfz 251 Ausf C at the Battle of the Bulge was somewhat unlikely because that late in the war they would have been attritioned out of existence in Russia, Italy and Normandy or converted to command vehicles. There also were many more Ausf D produced than Ausf C. 10,600 vs approx 2,000 so any 251s at the Bulge were probaly Asf Ds.

Then a few nites ago I was watching a documentary on the Battle of the Bulge and an Ausf C in Winter camo drove by on the screen! So there was one there :D:D OK, probably more than one.
