Yo Troopers, only posted this as a talking point, and it is not intended in any way to make our fab forum painters look less than adequate. Just looking at the level of painting of St Petersburg models have gone to, they are just awesome. They seem to pick the most intricate models for their painting. Would love to know what our painters think of them, also how long would a model like this take to paint. Also you would have to be quite a well off person to be able to afford such an item. But they have just amazed me that someone can actually do this type of work with a paint brush, I take my hat off to them.
Bernard.

I know that the figure is painted but it looks just like woven cloth - unbelievable really!
I should imagine there’s at least a couple of months work in this figure if not more.

Not to take away from their talent, but I think many of the painters in the Russian studios are classically trained, that is, they've been to art school. Just as in sports, so in art, talent+training and hard work=success.

When I saw my first Russian connoisseur figures coming into this country in the early 90s (sold out of a car trunk at a flea market, if you can believe it!), I was struck by the style, which had a definite Russian or Orthodox element, reminiscent of the style of detail and shading in their religious art.

Prost!
