New Movies (2 Viewers)

My favorite currently working actors include Jack Nicholson, Russell Crowe, Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Harrison Ford, Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, Robert DeNiro, William Macy, Robert Duvall, Michael Caine and Michael Douglas.

This is a great list and one that I agree with entirely. I wouldn't put Leonardo Dicaprio on a list like this either, though I would add Al Pacino despite some recent duds. Like I said, I'm not sure if Dicaprio a great actor or not (though, he's definitely good), but he does seem to have a gift for selecting great movies to star in.

I don't mind the fact that Leo will be in this Viking flick...I guess the question would have to be.
What tone will Gibson give it ? he could go mainstream or maybe a darker tone like Apocolypto and if thats the case then expect English subtitles

Pacino is a great actor and although not one of my favorites, has had some captivating performances that I greatly enjoy, in movies like Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, And Justice for All, Glengarry Glen Ross, Scent of a Woman, The Insider, Scarecrow, Scarface, Donnie Brasco and Heat. He can bring an amazing raw power and emotion to his performance, which can occassionally be a bit over the top. His more recent work is rather disappointing and beneath his skill.

Other actors that I almost always enjoy watching include Sean Connery, Clint Eastwood, James Woods, Alec Guinnis, Bruce Willis, Henry Fonda, Charlton Heston, Matt Damon, Kevin Costner, Will Smith, Anthony Hopkins, Samuel Jackson, Rod Steiger, Tyrone Power, Errol Flynn and Basil Rathbone. There are many others that I enjoy in various movies but not necessarily most of them.

I agree with you about Pacino - his older stuff is so much better than anything he's done very recently. I love him in Devil's Advocate as well and who could forget the Godfather films (I and II). I just watched The Insider again yesterday and he and Crowe are excellent. I actually find Deniro to be a bit like Pacino as well. His older stuff is much better. That movie that starred both of them was a disaster (new movie that's so bad I forget the name of it). They played opposite each other for a brief spell in Heat and it was great. But the new(ish) movie where they are police partners should have been made long before they were in their 70's and was crap.

That's a very good list of additional actors and I agree with just about all of them. Kevin Costner really rubs me the wrong way - I would imagine he is to me what Leonardo Dicaprio is for you. No matter who he plays or from what era or period, he has that midwestern twang to his voice. I did really enjoy Mr. Brooks so his stock has gone back up with me a bit after I saw that.

I think Will Smith is one of the most versatile and talented actors and is destined to become what Al Pacino and Nicholson and the like are today.

Other actors that I like off the top of my head, though not sure they are "great" or not, are:

Val Kilmer
Michael Madsen
Sydney Pollack
Josh Brolin
Tom Wilkinson
Jeff Bridges

Wasn't that movie called 88 minutes.

Yes, a real dog; as was Righteous Kill and I really didn't think much of Insomnia or Any Given Sunday. Maybe the Insider was his last good one, nearly 10 years ago. De Niro also has Righteous Kill to live down but he was very good in Ronin and Men of Honor, also about 9 years ago.

Matt from your additional list, I have enjoyed movies by each of those but of the group I would favor Jeff Bridges, who also seldom disappoints me. I know what you are saying on Costner but I love several of his movies including your Mr Brooks, Open Range, For the Love of the Game, Tin Cup, Robin Hood, Dances with Wolves, Bull Durham and Silverado. He has had some bombs as well like JFK, the Postman and Waterworld. I have to like him though, he is a dedicated horseman and accomplished rider who did his own riding in his westerns and threw every pitch in For the Love of the Game.

I only go to a couple movies a year, but Avatar will be one of them...(matinee, of course :D).

The only two Kostner films that I liked were Bull Durham and Field of Dreams. You have a great list and there is always room for more, I would add a couple of others in Donald Sutherland, Sidney Poitier, George C. Scott and Liam Neeson.
Also, I don't know if you would consider him great but, Cary Elwes has played so many diverse roles. He should be mentioned just for quantity and diversity of roles.

Danial Day Lewis is the best actor for me....Goerge Clooney is way over rated {cant stand him}.
Sam Elliot has been way under used....just my two cents worth.

I would like to see The Road and also Avatar. Plan on seeing Avatar this Wednesday with my Son and Grandson. Next year's offerings also includes The Book of Eli starring Denzel Washington - a post apocalyptic film that looks like it might be entertaining . . . . . . . . Mike

If you guys haven't seen 2012, this is a must see. The special effects are incredible and the plot overall very credible. Very entertaining until the end! :D
