New Office Diorama... (1 Viewer)

The double wall of the fort is decidedly attractive and historically correct. Really like that feature. Looking at the updated photos has me thinking that the mounted Indians might look particularly nice. Or possibly stage the scene as a "horse stealing" raid. Notice you change the orientation of the fort itself. Mike, do planning on keep that flexible?

wow, that is really cool. Great job!

What caused the breach in the palisade?

thanks Ken...

you gave me the okay on that on the phone the other day...

I always go to you for historical accuracy and error if I'm unsure...^&grin

I will refer to the inside double wall as the redoubt...
for their last defense...if...when...overrun...

and that's a great idea for a stand alone diorama...
but I think the table will be too congested for a "horse stealing" raid...

I have soooooooooo many Indians...
John has made a ton of them...
I actually need more BM's or civilians...

wow, that is really cool. Great job!

thanks Bradley...

I have a JJD French artillery crew with 4 and 8 pounder guns that I will set up to simulate the gap in the wall...

this is where the Indians will enter...

Hey Mike ... just got back and saw this .... fantastic ... as is your normal contribution to the Toy Soldier world. As in your recent Castle and nights I love the way you move from the river bed to the interior of the fort. I can sort-of picture some of it now.

Like you, I have a ton of JJD Indians and I will be "borrowing" few of your ideas. A++++

Mike,

Link to map and photos of a model for Fort Cumberland, Maryland. This is where Braddock spent several weeks organizing for the push into the "wilderness". Note the double set of walls. The "redoubt and bastion" segment of the fort was only 120 feet X 120 feet. Larger barracks complex outside of that. I think the barracks here are only single story. The large third picture from the bottom is especially nice.

Fort Ligonier has a similar setup. I think, but timer about to expire, so ......

here are a couple of newer pics...

I finished flocking the groundwork and have started adding tree...

the trees will go to the red line...

I will add some more wood and shrubs to the open area...

so many trees...but that's okay...I want a dense forest...

Amazing dio, are those trees handmade? If so, could you post a tutorial? Thank you

WHITE ANT, a real scourge in this neck of the woods.^&grin, Robin.

Robin...hahaha...yes...we call them termites over here...

Ken...I posted 2 pictures from the link you sent me...definitely a fort within a fort...I'm comfortable with the redoubt or second wall in mine...thanks for the research...that's why your my go to rivet counter guy...

by the way...he did a great job on his fort...

Wonderful ! Go on ! Great job !

Forza...thank you for the comment...

Chemiebay...no the trees are Woodland Scenic's Cool Shade...and Woodland Scenic's Water's Edge...they are relatively inexpensive...about $7.40 per tree...they are 8-9 inches tall with a removable base...I just glue the base down...flock it and insert the tree...

Mike did you make the tree,s ??

Wayne...here is a link to the trees...

I will have over 50 trees on here...these trees are not fantastic...but they are the best volume for the money I have found...

they retail on Woodland Scenic's website for $19.99 for 2 trees...
I bought mine from Hobbylinc...
both trees from Hobbylinc are under $8.00 each...
they are always the cheapest distributor I have found...
but the Woodland Scenic's products are sold by a number of dealers...

here is a close up of the trees so you can see the height...
the figures are JJD...

I prefer the Cool Shade trees to the Water's Edge trees...

just my preference...

and when you need volume...
$7.50 a tree is pretty cheap...

Amazing Mike, you have every release here. Think you have captured the overall area really well to depict what was happening at the time. The Forest is a worry, definite bushfire risk, never seen this much foilage in concentration before in a diorama. Looks like a labour of love in this project, JJD must value you.^&grin:salute::, Robin.
