Don't normally start threads but.....Received my sidecar as per the other thread

1. Great model, arrived safely so first point of packaging acheived.:D

2. Very difficult to safely get out of the pack - not so good.:(

3. After initial examination and enjoyment, felt very unsure about putting it back in the pack so now on display - from repacking perspective not so good - both the wire bits and the plastic base.:(

4. Overall, I suppose K&C need to have it arrive safely to minimise breakages and complaints and I guess this has improved, but once arrived the 'end user' is on his own.

I confess I quite strongly prefer the old style packaging. I have old K&C motorbikes that can be taken out and put back into the foam without fear...

What do you think?

yes ,i think if you want to repack is to much difficult put the wires in the original positions, this packages are like some dragons armor... you cant repacking in the same mode you have received

Do you mean Forces of Valor rather than Dragon? Imo Dragon 1/72 scale armor has about the best packaging on the market being one screw attaching the tank to a plastic display case. Yet Forces of Valor packaging is about the worse in the market having heaps of tie wire and cardboard inserts etc.

I see, I've never bothered buying any cyberhobby stuff myself as any popular 'limited edition' will usually be issued by Dragon at a later date - for much less :)

Couldn't agree more, Oz.

I received my motorbike the other day and finally took it out tonight. Took the advice of my dealer (cut the ties with a wire cutter) and the advice here and was very careful.

In my opinion, this packaging is terrible. I had a heck of a time getting out the little styrofoam in the middle of the bike and sidecar. Although I was careful, as with the Afrika Korps field gun, paint was missing from a couple of areas. I think this happens when the workers put on the ties. It can't be easy for them either.

Next point, repacking it will be not easy. You might as well throw everything away except the box. If you have to move or when this eventually gets retired -- oh, that's right, things get seldom retired anymore -- and you want to sell it, packing it will make it more difficult.

Plus I don't really like the way the figures fit on the seat. When I put the driver in, it's a very tight fit. You have to push down so he sits on the seat so the likelihood is you're going to have some paint loss. Guess what, I won't be taking that figure off.

On the plus side, it's a very nice job and amazingly heavy and the figures are of course top notch. But, oh that packaging. Please no mas, no mas.

this is terrible,i think is a problem that k&c it would have to resolve, is not possible for us collector spend cash in damages items,im very angry for this:9 box on 10 with little damages, bent or loss paint, every time that you open a box is a lottery.... Andy is time to put the hands on this problem...

K&C figure sets that are packed in FOAM padding are wrapped with tissue, figures included in vehicle sets packed in STYROFOAM are wrapped in tissue, yet figures and vehicles packed in hard plastic and secured with the much loathed wire ties and are tightened too aggresively are NOT wrapped in tissue. Seriously consindering not puchasing any future K&C release that are packaged in this manner.

yes,im very attract to the sidecar set but i think two times before buy, maybe is better to spend money on the old sets

I wouldn't let the packaging stop you. I think it's a great set. You just have to be veeeeeery careful when you open it up.

Brad, I too think it's a great set, it's the packaging system that $uck$! And it's not just a matter of you open it carefully, if the knucklehead who packages the motorcycle tightens the wire tie that's wrapped around one of the two rods that connects the bike to the sidecar too much both rods bend, the paint is chipped and the bike and sidecar are leaned in towards each other, the piece of styrofoam is then wedged in and impossible to remove without a surgical procedure. It's a horrible way to package a fairly fragile model and repacking it for storing or moving becomes a nightmare.

Brad, can you post some pics of the damages?

I got my cycle yesterday and it is in great shape. :) The only thing I had to do, other than undo the plastic coated wires mumbling to myself about these **** things and how they (K&C) are turning into FOV (the most complicated packaging system I have seen), was to use a jeweler's screw-driver to drive the styro foam block out from between the sidecar and the cycle.

However, I still prefer the way that Britains packaged their sets. The dark foam, that does not turn to little balls of styro all over the house, cut to the shape of the figure or vehicle and each figure tightly wraped in waxy paper. Large amounts of it, both foam and waxy paper to protect the sets. Although I have not recieved a K&C set that was damaged, perhaps lucky?, I still like the comfort that Britains provides me when I order it. I hate hearing these horror stories about broken vehicles and chipped paint.:(

My opinion "I hate that tie packaging". I,m not one to complain about anything K&C, but this type packaging is an exception, get rid of it.

You all know me. I love K & C and am probably seen as Andy's "boy" but I don't care for this packaging as it doesn't do what it's designed to prevent.

I too dislike the ties . You don't realize the horrors of the ties until Christmas morning . Every toy manufacturer in the world uses hundreds of these things on everything. I gave up trying to untie them all and went with my wire cutters:mad: .When I opened my new sidecar , it reminded me of opening one of my daughter's $10 toys. I like the foam but , I know like all things derived from oil that it might no longer be cost effective . I would just like to see something a little more repackage friendly with no ties. Well that is just my opinion anyways. Greg

Just to add my two cents, I vote against the ties as well. I can honestly say I had no problems with the foam packaging. I believe we purchase not just the figures but sort of a package deal to include a nice box with easy accessibility to the figure and replacement when desired. This is what the foam packaging provided. The ties in my opinion cheapen the package. If it was a matter of production cost, I wouldn't mind paying a little more for the foam.
