I'm not so sure about this one......I for one will need more photos to decide....Does any one know if this will be in the SS line of figures or Fields of battle....... Thank you......

Hiya mate!
Its a Panzer 1 - not sure where u got panzer 2 (?) from but I could not leave you there all on your own waiting for an answer. As for FOB or WSS - not a clue - guess we will have to wait out on that one.
Kindest regards
RD

On the TF forthcoming product site it says they are WSS:).

I will pass on this one, I am a mid to late war German armor collector, dont care too much for the "runts":D

I decided to pick up a new book today on the Panzer 1/2 (from the "Tanks & Armor" series by Terry Gander). The Ausf. F actually is a mid war (1942/43) tank variant. It shouldn't be associated with K&C's "early war" SS. But you're right, it is a runt of a tank. I never really did like the Panzer I, though I much prefer this Ausf. F model to the A one with its locomotive-style connecting drive rods across the wheels.

The fact that only 30 Panzer I Ausf F tanks were produced and most of these were used by the SS Police makes the new camo version a bit suspect imo.

As i'm no uniform expert i wonder if i cold ask you guys a question.Would the crew of the new tank go with any other German Tank?.I think the new vehicle would look good with the SS troopers alone, and i'm always looking for spare Tank crew so was wondering if they could be used elsewhere.Or would they be strictly early war crew only?

Cheers

Rob

CS/Rob. The Panzer I Ausf F was produced in 1942, and of the 30 built, 8 were attached to 1. Panzer Division and were used on the Russian front in Summer 1943. Another reference (German Tanks of WWII - George Forty) records that only two of these saw actual combat. It failed its evaluation and overall it was a dud being to slow and heavy for recce work and to slow and light for combat use. To the best of my knowledge the remaining 22 were used by the SS Police Division.

The only photos I have seen show it painted gray, dark yellow/with brown blotches. Of course that doesn't rule out the color scheme on the K & C version, but considering their Normandy Elephant suggestion I do have some doubts about the accuracy.

It was never used as a recce vehicle and didn't see any service pre 1942 as it wasn't built yet.

Hi Rob
The Panzer MK 1 F saw service with the 12th SS panzer Division as well as the 1st. All the SS police armoured units saw active service as well so it could be used in any number of dios. Personally I collect for pleasure and this tank is such a little beauty which I will be only too pleased to have in my collection.
The uniforms look like mid to late war so could be used for a Normandy dio if desired. You could even have the MK1 as an SS Police unit vehicle chasing those darn Frenchy Resistance fighters that Andy just bought out. That way our little MK 1 could be getting all the combat she needs!
What surprises me is how none of our learned members have picked up on the fact that the German armoured units in North Africa were not issued with a tropical wrap around tunic, as displayed on the crew figures from the excellent desert Stug from K&C. Still I rushed out and bought it as soon as it hit the shelves - not going to let a minor technical hitch like that stop me am I?
All the best

Hey Oz

At least we know it was built and in service ! :)

Least we all can avoid the Ramjammer argument. ;)

No Rammjäger argument if K&C do not produce a Rammjäger

I wondered about that, but as I don't have many references on Afrika Corps uniforms, nor do I collect Afrika Corps (aside from the aforementioned Panzer II) I wasn't going to complain about it. People have already pointed out that that model of StuG never appeared in Africa in any numbers, so I'd say the uniforms are the least of that set's accuracy problems. That said, I agree it is a really neat looking model.

I double checked the camo pattern on smocks of the new SS figures, and I found the pattern K&C chose is more reflective of oak leaf than anything else. Oak leaf was a mid-late war pattern, first appearing in 1942. Coincidentally, 1942 was also the last year you would probably see SS wearing their gas mask bag on their chest, or exclusively wearing the M38 smock without the foilage leaves on the shoulders (which K&C has accurately reproduced). Consequently, in my opinion the sets WS 110-115 are best used to represent the summer 1942 eastern front offensive. Luckily, 1942 is also the year the Panzer I ausf. F was apparently first seeing action on the eastern front, so in theory it could probably be used together with the WS 110-115 sets for an eastern front 1942 scene.

Rob, as for your question, the pics from the show aren't the greatest to see fine detail, but those tanker uniforms look generic enough they could crew any Wehrmacht tanks in your collection from 1941-1943 (Panzer 1-4s probably). Because of the pink piping around the collar they would not work as SS or 1944-1945 Wehrmacht panzer crew. Prior to 1941 they would be wearing those funny floppy berets.

Thank you CS thats most helpful.I recently got the MK1 and the driver appears to be wearing one of those floppy berets.

Aaaah-Haaah Rob,
But you can respray the Mk1 a beige colour, swop the beret head for one with a cap - and voila - more cannon fodder for the tanks and artillery that are on their way to reinforce our EA battalions.....;);)

I see your plan H,and its criminally good one. However at this time i'm building up my 'German Grey' armoured division to include MK1,MK4,Stug,Kubel etc.Must say i like the MK1 Nifty little vehicle, the only LAH item i own(although in my scenario it won't be LAH)
