New Range (2 Viewers)

Hi,
I have to echo the comments above, great figure, however, the price is stiff. Perhaps I am being too provincial but given the economy in the USA, coming out with a line like this is seemingly a dicey move. Perhaps it would be better for Britains to concentrate on more figures such as those in the Museum series and the new grade AWI figures. They are affordable and could broader Britains market share. Frankly, there is a lot product on the market and much of it is very good in quality.

I am not sure about this. This is a very particular market. But here in Europe the economy is also doing badly, for example here in Portugal. And what you tend to see in the housing market in Portugal, for instance, is that the cheaper or middle price houses are now very hard to sell but the luxury houses are selling better and better... Does this happen in the US too? Could this translate into the toy soldier market?

Is it just me, or does the the new figure bear a slight resemblence to Keith Carradine's French Hussar officer in "The Duellists"??

It's certainly an excellent looking figure, and superbly detailed. The price is definitely justifiable based on the overall quality, but I'm not sure if I could personally see myself buying into this range at that cost level, depite it being a period I love. But...stranger things have happened, so I suppose I'll wait and see what's coming next in this line!

Cheers,

Molloy.

Hi Paulo,

It is hard for me to comment as I live in a small community in North Carolina that is economically fueled by an university. My family, however, owns a Volvo franchise in New England and new car sales are poor, however, sales for used volvos are strong. While it may not apply to members of this board it seems like many are living on the economic edge.

Cheers,
Benjamin

Hi Guys:

This is a French 4th Regiment of Hussars Officer, Battle of Friedland, June 14, 1807. There is other Napoleonic subject matter in this series being worked on with the possibility of other eras being added over the next few years.

Please note that this was the first prototype and that the final one I have on my desk has a shaped surgical steel blade and additional highlighting and shading.

Thanks for the feedback,

Richard

Yo Trooper, ok you have seen the comments about the price, and the shortage of money around the world every country is struggling, so dont quite understand why you went for a model at this price. Not doubt about it its excellent but £120.00 to USA guys $240.00 its for the rich cats, dont know why you didn't say with the Capt Nolan style, a horse on FOUR legs no plate, and the painting is incredible its a superb piece and it was only £25-£30 If all the Light Brigade were like this I would sell my Light Brigade and go with these, but as I pointed out about K&C Light Brigade pieces at £70.00 a go plus Russians cannons etc you would be looking at about £20,000 plus to do a Balaklava scene.
Bernard.

Personally guys, I think this is a smart move for Britains. The price and I'm guessing at the $ equivalent at around £120/$185 is not that steep when compared with your average K&C/Figarti vehicle or Russian figure. If people are willing to buy these figures then surely the limited runs of 200 will also sell. Britains I believe are trying to cater for a larger market which includes the niche connoisseur collector; it will be interesting to see where this range goes. For myself I won't buy this particular figure but if a Zulu or WWI figure crops up then maybe.

Hi Andy,

I agree there is nothing wrong with them venturing into this range of figures but I have to say I think your exchange rate is slightly off if its going for 120 GBP and we are just going to translate that into dollars well my figures come up with 240 dollars just to get you in the door. Depending on where it resides when shipped you will be looking at well over 260 bucks with insurance. Now if your figures are correct then I would be more apt to strongly consider a purchase. I guess we will need to wait and see.

All the best

I am not sure how the pricing is worked out. I don't think it goes just by currency conversion, for example

SoHK Lantern Set is listed in the UK as

£84.95 converted to USD is $169.41
Tree Frog has it for $102.00

Maybe they set prices for each individual country ?

Hi Scott,

I have no idea how they set the prices for an item like this. With it limited to 200 world wide they should have no problem selling them out. I guess we will need to wait and see what the next issue of the Standard says.

All the best

Dave

Dave,

Look at most of the other Toy soldier US/UK comparison and you'll see where I'm coming from.

Unfortunately, if its $240. or $260, or even $235. -- I don't think my budget would allow me to collect this new range.

for the same amount of money, I could buy at least a set or two in another range. Or, even better, I could buy a gallon of gas.

Don't forget the joyous UK VAT taxes hike up the prices in the UK - they often account for such differences.

Having seen this figure up close and personal a limited run of 200 worldwide will sell out in no-time. Trust me- when you handle it and examine the detail on the uniform- it's that good and what I saw was apparently only a rough-cast and not the finished item.
This figure may not be your era (it's not mine) but if they add a mounted ACW figure with the same fine detail anytime in the series my £120 will quickly become Britains or Treefrog's if the $ to £ rate is better.

I haven't seen the figure myself (other than the images posted here), so I'll take the word of others that the detail is worth the price. Like others, this figure isn't my time period, but I wouldn't rule out purchasing a really well done figure that strikes a chord with me -- either time period, personality or particular unit.

Not everyone is has the space, money or interest in developing dioramas or other large displays. Rather, having an excellant example or two of a particular unit/period may be a goal of those with limited display space. I think the Museum collection also aims at this segment. I think there could be some real potential in these sorts of lines.
