NEW RELEASES FOR MARCH 2021
THE FUR TRADE
THE MOUNTAIN MEN

A mountain man was an explorer who lived in the wilderness. They were instrumental in opening up the various Emigrant Trails (widened into wagon roads) allowing Americans in the east to settle the new territories of the far west by organized wagon trains traveling over roads explored and in many cases, physically improved by the mountain men and the big fur companies originally to serve the mule train based inland fur trade.

Mountain men were most common in the North American Rocky Mountains from about 1810 through to the 1880s (with a peak population in the early 1840s). Approximately 3,000 mountain men ranged the mountains between 1820 and 1840, the peak beaver-harvesting period. While there were many free trappers, most mountain men were employed by major fur companies. The life of a company man was almost militarized. The men had mess groups, hunted and trapped in brigades and always reported to the head of the trapping party.
This man was called a "boosway", a bastardization of the French term bourgeois. He was the leader of the brigade and the head trader.

If I were John, I would have released this kneeling gun figure in the same box as the last month’s standing gun figure like he has done for other series such as Sudan. This would save him on packaging and postage and if there is a month with no release because of the combining, so be it. Just seems to make economical sense all round. Just a thought. Robin.

I'm a little confused on where this series is heading...
the last 3 figures have been firing...pointing a gun and reloading...
which makes me think John is going to release some Blackfeet fighting them...
I originally thought it was gonna be a Camp Whoop rendezvous trading peaceful series...
something like his Poilus...no guns drawn...no combatants...
but maybe not...
I do like the "peaceful, campfire, rendezvous" figures...especially the mountain band figures...
time will tell what John has planned...

I would love a few Blackfeet or Crow. I am not collecting the mountain men but i would go a few Native warriors

The firing figures could be doing what they do, hunting game for their survival. No need for a battle between the local natives. John is possibly keeping this a fairly peaceful series. Robin.

Robin...

I actually thought about that...
and if that's the case...
we might need a large bear...some beaver...a deer...or at least some squirrels...^&grin...

John would be just the one to produce some wildlife, so fair chance we could see something along these lines. Robin.

Steve...Robin...

nice pics!

love the bears...and buildings...

you got the same idea of where I thought the direction of this series was going...
I was thinking it was a Rendezvous series he was developing...
that's where my mind was...
especially when he released the pic of the 5 Mountain Men dancing and playing instruments...

still he released 4 figures loading/pointing/firing...
so...I don't know...
we will see...
