Hi Guys,
A good mixture from John this month.
The Watch Tower can be used for many different scenes with JJ and other brands.

I could not help but notice John's wording about CAPT Brown :

"The first aircraft of the collection is the one that became famous because it was the machine that Capt. Roy Brown used to chase Baron von Reichtofen over the Somme on 21st April 1918. A flight from which the Baron did not return. Brown had fired at the Baron’s Dr1, and upon landing was told that he had shot it down".

John, rightly, does not actually say he shot down the Red Baron. For more see The Australian War Memorial Web page :

Having said that it is a great item and I look foward to seeing how the series develops.

Regards
Brett

I noticed this and was impressed, no repeating the old story. While still controversial, it is now widely accepted that Richthofen was brought down by Australian ground fire. Odds are it was a machine gunner but it could have been a rifleman. Richthofen was killed by a .303 bullet that could only have come from the ground. Brown did make a firing pass at Richthofen, but earlier than the wound was inflicted and from the wrong side and angle. To Brown's credit, he never actually claimed to have shot Richthofen down, only that he shot at his plane and that it was later seen to go down. A great choice by JJD and I now eagerly await Richthofen's world famous red Tripe, 425/17, in all it's accurate glory. -- Al

The Spwith Camel looks great - perhaps we will see some aircraft in the new Condor Legion range as well. A Me 109B perhaps?

the Sopwith Camel ......looks fantastic.....a little to modern for the rest of the soldiers i collect from John...as well as the Spanish War....looking forward to the Sudan Naval set ......nothing after the 1900's for me !!!!!!!!!!!:D

I'm glad to see Ticonderoga being shown...
I know this will make a lot of FIW War guys very happy...
John has had a lot of pressure from his "old school guys" to come out with Bushy Run or Ticonderoga...
I'm glad this series is being announced...
I'm counting 12 prototypes on this table...
maybe 8 Black Watch and 4 Grenadiers...
it looks like John has been very busy lately...
this will make a lovely series to start...

I knew this British 24 pound siege cannon was big...
I had seen pictures of it already...
I bet it will look quite spectacular when painted...
but I had no idea it was this large next to the figures...
you cannon expert guys...
this thing is huge...
must have been a logistical nightmare to haul around...
how large of a crew accompanied a piece this big...
I'm also curious...what did something like this weigh...
and how many horses pulled it...

I think the poses on this US artillery crew are very really cool...
I love the guy shielding his ears and the other guy tentatively lighting the fuse...
great poses...
these artillery sets are really coming together...
I'm delighted John is spending so much energy on them...
they are quite spectacular and will make a very diverse crew...

I hope this Gordon's "firing" set will be in this months offerings...
I have been waiting for this set and will definitely need multiples of it...
I would like to get 3 or 4 sets of these..
a staple of any square...
they will be great for my fort or garrison in defending the walls...

with the announcement of Ticonderoga and all these new prototypes...it's a very exciting time to be a Jenkin's collector...looks like John has been busting his butt on the sculpting table lately...

Is that some kind of log structure on the right of the photo?

When was the Ticonderoga range announced?I had heard nothing about it.

Wonder which series the marching figure on the left is from - The one on top of the Osprey book - 'Ticonderoga 1758 Montcalm’s victory against all odds'. So could be thirteen Mike, as its base looks similar to the others.

I believe a lot of the battle took place behind a modified structure of debris from the woods...isn't that correct...

"Initially uncertain how to deal with the assault, Montcalm’s force withdrew behind the abattis constructed across the isthmus on which the fort lay. Montcalm set his whole force to strengthening the position, overnight building a near impenetrable thicket of branches and thorn. After an initial hesitation, Abercrombie resolved to attack, urged on by Bradstreet. Lieutenant Clarke, the army’s engineer was sent to reconnoitre the French position. Clarke advised that the abattis could be stormed by infantry assault.

Behind the fortified line, now reinforced through the arrival of a force commanded by Levis, stood the French regiments of La Sarre, Languedoc, Berry, Royal Rousillon, La Reine, Bearn and Guienne.

Soon after 9am on 8th July the British and Americans began their frontal assault on the abbatis. No use was made of the strong British artillery. The attack continued throughout the day with additional attempts to pass the fort by boat. In spite of the intrepid efforts of the American provincial and the British regular troops the French held them back until finally Abercrombie drew his men off and the retreat began. The attacking troops suffered heavy casualties."

I have a close up of this guy that shows the debris better....

When John displayed these figures at the show I guess...

Pete...I was so focused on "zooming in" on these guys...that I did not even notice him til you pointed him out...

Mike, why do you distinguish between Black Watch and Grenadiers, aren't they all Black Watch no matter if they are Line Infantry or Grenadiers;)
I count it 13 Black Watch - 8 Line and 5 Grenadiers!

I think I read somewhere that the Black Watch Grenadiers wore bearskin caps instead of mitre caps at this time!

Niels

I love the 1812 artillery and crew. Are there similar artillery crews planned for the British or am I going to have to do some conversions?! :)

There has already been released a 3-figure British crew set (BCHART-01), and in a week or two, there will be a 2-figure set as well (BCHART-02)!

Unpainted...it's just not easily distinguishable...they could all be Black Watch...in fact...they probably are...

It also looks like there will be log and earthwork defences for future French troops to defend. You can see parts of it at the edges of some of the photos KV provided.

Now that I have looked at them again...I doubly agree...they are all kilted...:D

Yep kilts, shoe buckles, dirks and the grenadier caps are clearly bearskin caps and not mitre caps (no woolen tassel)!

My guess would be an initial 7 sets, consisting of 4 line sets (firing/charging), and 3 grenadier sets (2 x firing/charging and 1 x marching)!

I really can't wait to get my hands on one of these sets:)

Niels...we should get you on the next episode of CSI...you have really good eyes on an out of focus, unpainted, dark across the room shot...

Peter Falk...Lt. Colombo...good eyes...:)

Nicholas

What would be involved in "converting" the US artillery crew to British ? ... would that just be re-painting the figures ?

If its only re-paint work .. here's an idea for JJD to double its offering of British, and/or US crews  I would buy all the British crew :)
