Good Morning everyone for a chilly San Francisco Bay Area, where the Summer Fog has rolled in and typically does not burn off until Mid Afternoon, keeping temperatures in the 70’s. It is a great time of year to visit the Bay Area and announce new John Jenkins Releases.

Some great new releases, especially the Defense Works for Ticonderoga, the supply wagon and of course the Madists, plus a couple more.

We hope to have these up on the web site, later this morning.
www.sierratoysoldier.com.

As always hope you enjoy the new releases as much as we do. We hope to have as many as we can at the Chicago Show, plus I hope we can get some preview releases as well. See you there.

Announcement

From 1st September 2011 there will be a new UK dealership.
JJD.UK will be an exclusive dealer for the United Kingdom.
John Jenkins Designs Products will no longer be available from TM Terrain Ltd.
TM Terrain starting working with John in 2006, and initially only carried the 28mm Wargames figures and Buildings. In 2008 they started to carry the 60mm painted figures.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their hard work in promoting my work in the UK and especially for their excellent displays at the London shows. It will be a challenge to look as good at future shows.
We both feel a great amount of pride, that from humble beginnings, both companies have grown to establish themselves in the Toy Soldier industry.
I wish both Mark and David of TMTerrain Ltd. all the best for the future.

KNIGHTS OF THE SKIES

The Fokker D.VII was a German World War I fighter aircraft designed by Reinhold Platz of the Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. Germany produced around 1,700 D.VII aircraft in the summer and autumn of 1918. In service, the D.VII quickly proved itself to be a formidable aircraft. The Armistice ending the war specifically required Germany to surrender all D.VIIs to the Allies at the conclusion of hostilities. The aircraft saw widespread service with many other countries in the years after World War I.
The Fokker D.VII entered squadron service with Jasta 66 in early May 1918. The type quickly proved to have many important advantages over the Albatros and Pfalz scouts. Unlike the Albatros scouts, the D.VII could dive without any fear of structural failure. The D.VII was also noted for its ability to climb at high angles of attack, its remarkably docile stall, and its reluctance to spin. These handling characteristics were a huge improvement over other contemporary planes such as the Camel and SPAD, which stalled sharply and spun vigorously.

Hermann Goring was known to use motivational devices, such as the power of imagery to motivate his men. Therefore it was no surprise when he broke the tradition of having the Richtofen Geschwader-Kommandeur (Wing Commander) fly an aeroplane with a highly visible amount of red on it.
Apparently as he wanted to assert his own identity, and to make him instantly recognizable during the battles to come, his final aeroplane, Fokker D.VII F 5125/18, was all white.

HERMANN GORING
It is impossible to consider Hermann Göring (1893-1946) as just another flying ace of World War One. His role in instigating and perpetrating the horrors of Naziism in World War Two overwhelms anything else he did earlier in his life. While this figure and model focuses on his WWI experiences, his heinous role in WWII can never be forgotten, or forgiven.
Hermann Goring was born in 1893, the son of a German diplomat. Following education in a military school he became an infantry officer. During World War 1 he became a fighter pilot.
Hermann Goring became a skilled and daring fighter pilot who scored 22 air victories. Goering was promoted to a squadron leader, decorated with the Iron Cross, and when the famous "Red Baron" von Richthofen was killed in air combat, Hermann Goring replaced him in command of his elite fighter squadron.
Göring was appointed head of the Richthofen Group in July, much to the annoyance of many aces in that group with 40+ kills. But Göring turned out to be a good group leader and the complaints faded away and morale improved.
He was to shoot down one more Spad for his 22nd and final victory.
The Goring figure is depicted with the so-called Geschwader-Stock which was a traditional symbol of authority passed down from Richthofen.

great group of releases, my preference to the Supply Wagon and first piece of trench, long waited!!!
well done John, thanks
Carlo

What a fantastic group of releases. All sorts of neat stuff but the obvious highlight for me is Goering and his white Fok.D-VII. Looks to be a very well researched and accurate release, with one or two minor caveats. I am impressed by the care JJD has put into the detail on this D-VII. The pristine white finish is accurate, (contrary to most WW1 aircraft which seemed to be born dirty), as specially painted and delivered from the Fokker factory. I like the detail of the black (with white lettering) lift points on the ends of the upper and lower wings. The cowling is accurate as the last Fokker cowling variation (a complicated subject). On the starboard side of the cockpit are the flares and the flare gun port of 5125/18, just as they should be. A real nice bit of detail on the port side of the cockpit in that JJD shows the cut-away combing and non-standard handle that were special for Goering. Goering had an arthritis problem in his hip that made entry into the cockpit a bit of a challenge and these two modifications were for assisting him in. Nice touch. The only criticism (first glance from the photos) that I have are that the struts seem a bit "heavy/thick". It also appears that the landing gear struts might be too long. These two "problems" are just my impression from the photos and could be off base. Overall this is a splendid looking D-VII and I can hardly wait to add it to my collection. The Goering figure also appears to be an outstanding rendition in both pose and expression. Excellent! -- Al

The D.VII is a real beauty! And I'm glad John is finally catching up on our lengthy request list. :wink2: Rickenbacker's SPAD can't be far behind.

Mike...thanks for posting the new releases and announcements...I'm really surprised to see the parting of the business arrangement with TMTerrain...I know they have done a lot of nice dioramas that have been an inspiration to me...I'm sure JJ will satisfy the collecting needs of the UK in grand fashion...

lots of nice pieces for me...it's great to see the Fuzzy Wuzzys make an appearance...they are definitely welcome...my Gordons have been itching for a fight...

the defence work for Carillion looks really cool...I love that JJ mounted a gun on the top...I hope he designs a figure to man that piece...maybe one with a ramrod too...

the British Army supply wagon looks great too...the gray wicker sides and the covered red top make a nice contrast ...am I to understand the BA-03 horses will pull it?

I love the Gordon officer with the mutton chops...he looks pretty regal...I need an officer to control my unruly troops...hahaha...

lastly the CLUB SET#11 (Towson) is greatly appreciated...I need someone to command my artllery crew...I hope we get some more officers for the US Side and especially the British side...

the British side needs some mounted officers...Riall would be nice...

I see that JJD lists the materials used on the new D-VII as "polyresin". Anyone know what that is/means in respect to the earlier aircraft made in "mixed media"? -- Al

REALLY REALLY NICE!!!!!!!!!!! looks like extra hours at home depot next month...!!!!

I can't wait until November for the second part of the trench! Really at first John planned a defence with a third straight section, now he mentions only two parts. I wonder if he cancelled this latest or if it is available next year!

Great Sudan again & that wagon might come in handy also, great work John, a very talented man. Cheers, Robin.

Tmterrain have known for a few weeks that the dealership arrangement with John was likely to come to an end.
It has given Mark and I time to think about the future. Johns business made up about half of our toy soldier turnover so a big hole has been left in the business. Also, the terrain is going from strength to strength so we have decided to stop selling toy soldiers altogether. You can go to our web site for more details.

We have come to an arrangement with John and the new dealer to sell all our JJD stock to them so this will be a very clean transition of dealer arrangements in the UK. This will be concluded by the time JJD.UK take over from the 1st September. Mark and I are pleased we have come to this arrangement because, although we are very disappointed we have lost the dealership, we wish John's new arrangements all the best for the future and it ties up all the loose ends for him so he can concentrate developing business with his new dealer.

We would like to wish John and JJD.UK all the best for the future and thank John for the fun we have had with him over the last 4 or 5 years.

I thought I'd post these pics from Ft Ligonier that are like P1090118 (Small).JPGP1090129 (Small).JPGJJD new releases. The wagon and the swivel gun.

Some great upcoming releases announced this month.

-While I don't collect this series, I really like the white D-VII and the not so jolly Herman G. figure.
-Happy to see the Fort Carrillon earthwork. Hopefully there will be word soon on some new French troops to defend it.
- And it's great to see an officer for the Gordons (a very Victorian looking chap indeed :)). He will be a great addition to help take on all those upcoming releases of charging Hadendowa warriors.

Here's a painting of Goring's D.VII that was posted a while back:
