You did an excellent job on this fort JOe. It reminds me of the fort that was in the movie "Eagle" . . . . an excellent movie by the way portraying Roman occupied Briton in 140 AD . . .

Hey guys thanks for the kind comments. This is actually the 1st dio of this size and detail that I have ever done. I can finally say that the end is nearly in sight. I have a few odds and ends such as a little blending where the grass and dirt meet, completing the moat and adding some tall grass and weeds here and there. Hopefully we will be seeing a lot more FL Romans and Germans in the near future so I can fill this diorama up.

MC BOWEN Thanks for the flattering comment that I should put one together to sell. My wife said the same thing but I told her that my work is no comparison to some of the great talents on this forum. I have 2 more projects planned one of which is a ACW project that I have neglected and need to turn some much needed attention to. The second is another Roman diorama that I have been thinking about doing for some time. I got a lot of great advice from other forum members and I'm looking forward to taking that knowledge and getting better at making dioramas.

Yes, hopefully very soon you will be able to add that nice looking Centurion and Aquilifer. I am ordering my first ever Roman tonight thanks to your diorama. I won't give my wife your name.

Three initial observations:

The re-use of the sculpts of body parts is not a concern to me. I bought all four of the legionnaires carying the gladius and all four are so different that the identity of certain parts is not distracting.

The gladii are steel - no bending or flimsy look.

The shields are definitely battle-damaged. Or pet damaged. :rolleyes2:

Unpacking my "New Romans", I knew I had a winner on my hands to tell stories, like the one where Paterculus, Egregius and Porcius (also called "PEP Boys" by their fellow legionnaires), upon being tasked to prepare it for battle, decide to use their gladii to "nudge" the war-elephant into position.

But upon reflection of the bitter battles fought on this forum every day, I decided that this was way too light a fare to serve the serious toy soldier collector. Maybe another day. :redface2:

Wow! Great photos. I really need to get a better camera. These are some of the best photos yet that I have seen of FLs Romans.

Mike, I enjoyed viewing this 'simple' dio, though I don't know if it is the right description! Also caught a glimpse of a Pegaso vignette in the back that was part of their Teutoburg series from a few years ago. I had fun painting that group of vignettes as well.
