New Romans (1 Viewer)

I'm hearing very good things about this range. I'm very keen to know who the opponents will be - has anyone heard any hints? I've always seen Romans as the perfect line. You could sell three or four enemy lines to go with them.

Some nice pictures Guy, the Centurion is already on his way as well as the Eagle bearer.

I like the imagery of the Eagle bearer of the 10th Legion struggling ashore.
This event happened when Julius Caesar first came to Britain and the Legions seeing the Britons waiting for them on shore were refusing to land, so when the Eagle Bearer jumped into the sea and waded ashore by his example it gave the troops courage.

A century later. In need of some command figures and Romans with gladius instead of pilums. So far I'm really pleased with these figures. Keep up the good work TGM. I will be starting a diorama called "Civil Wars". No its not a show down between Iron Man and Captain America but a dio based on the year of the four emperors.

This is the closest I have ever seen to a Roman maniple in 54mm form. It's just magnificent.

I previously asked about opponents and was told there are no plans other than a Celtic / Briton chariot I believe.

Yes it is planned, unfortunately we have a lot more Romans to produce first including an Elephant and these are taking priority I am afraid.

However there is also a new Ancients range coming soon and this will have plenty of enemy troops virtually from the beginning, hope this helps? We are trying but only so much capacity at the factory and only so many collectors out there with the budget for what are already a lot of Roman figures.

Best wishes Vicki

I think I speak for everyone that collects Romans when I say I think you're doing a great job. The FL figures are great, don't get me wrong, but they don't lend themselves to big displays/dioramas as much as these figures do. The thing with Romans is that lots are needed if you want something with impact and it's great that some of these figures are being produced in greater quantities than the usual 100 limited pieces.

I can't hide the fact that I personally prefer the less popular/less Hollywood late Republican Roman Army with hamata and montefortino/coolus but until then I couldn't be happier with the figures I have purchased from this range. The price difference between the TG and FL figures in terms of rudimentary economics is between £18-£31 but that isn't reflected at all in the overall quality. These are definitely up there with the best figures in terms of VFM.

I'd say that with the Roman's produced so far it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to have the legions of Claudius to Hadrian, maybe even Marcus Aurelius.
Elephants would make the campaign of Claudius In Britain in 43 A.D. Where of course you can bring in a young Vespasian with his Legio II Augusta.
At least one Agricola figure would be good !!!
The year of the four Caesars. Nero, Galba, Vitellius and Vespasian in 69 A.D.
The campaigns in Judaea in around 70 A.D. with Jerusalem,
Masada etc of Vespasian and Titus.
All the Dacian campaigns, from Domitian to Hadrian as Trajan's Nephew.
Revolts in Judaea, Britain it goes on !

I believe there were clashes with the Persians a decade or so prior to the Jewish Revolt? The 4th and 6th Legions were involved I think? There would certainly have been Eastern archers with the Roman forces there.

There was a big battle in the Scottish Highlands in 84AD. In the lead up the IXth was attacked at night and suffered quite heavily. The Caledonians raised some 30,000 men to face Agricola at Mons Graupius, including a sizeable chariot force. On the day, Agricola held the IXth and XXth back and attacked with 8,000 auxiliary infantry and 5,000 auxiliary cavalry. While this cavalry engaged the chariot screen, there was a missile exchange (so archers) then when the way was clear, the Batavian and Tungrian auxiliaries attacked. The cavalry were then directed at the Caledonian flanks and 10,000 were killed. Apparently the only Roman losses were 360 auxiliaries, the legions not being needed. So wrote Tacitus.
