New Stalingrad movie to be released this fall (1 Viewer)

That looks pretty good, but like you said, doubtful it will be on the big screen in the states.

Plus the rivet counters will be out in full force on this one; one of the things that jumped out to me is the long barrel mark IV's with turret and side skirt armor, don't think the Germans had those in the fall/winter of 1942................

I think you're right about the Mark IV tank.

Although it's a love story from what I've read on the film it's refreshing to see ww2 movies on the eastern front being released whether here or on Russia.

I recently watched another Russian film released earlier this year on bluRay- White Tiger. Pretty good movie about a Russian T34 tank crew and their battle to kill a seemingly invisible Tiger tank.

Hi RedBaron,

Thanks for the heads up. This looks interesting but another Stalingrad movie? We've already had two already, Stalingrad (german point of view) and Enemy at the Gates. I read on Wikipedia that this film was shot oustide St. Petersburg. Why didn't they make a movie on the siege of Leningrad instead?

Already a few of these been done recently on Leningrad. Will wait for this to go in the cheap DVD sales sections as most of the recent WWII movies have been pants. If the don't want to get little things right it says to me that the whole film will be flawed. Things like the last drop paratroopers, battle for Normandy, and a recent one about US Paratroopers led by a duff commander in French!! and many others were all like this in trailer form (showing what they consider the best bit) and were appallingly bad.

Like Mitch said, two have been done already on Leningrad, one of which I saw on Netflix, it wasn't half bad, opening battle scenes were pretty good as I recall.

In order for movies to appeal to a wider audience, they have to throw in love angles and such to try to attract women viewers, that's just the way it goes.

I'm just glad war movies of any sort are being done, period.

If they did a Stalingrad movie with grey hanomags, tanks and stukas, the only person in the theater would be Wayne.

The trailer does looks promising (if you're conceding a "poetic license" for historical inaccuracies...), but then again I've seen some promising trailers before that didn't result in a great watching experience... Let's hope it's not the case here, since it would be great to see a good quality post-perestroika Russian movie about WWII. I'll certainly check it as soon as it becomes availabe in whatever media (theaters, dvd, internet...)

I have to say this is one thing that drives me up a wall sideways; if you are going to do a WWII movie that involves tanks or any other sort of AFV's, they get them right, don't just throw something out there that resembles a tank.

If you were doing a movie and it was about America in the late 1960's, you wouldn't have a Prius driving down the street, or a Prius with sheet metal all around it trying to look like a 1969 Chevelle SS would you? No, you wouldn't, you'd have the correct car for that time period, so why be so sloppy when it comes to WWII movies?

Saving Private Ryan, Band of Brothers and The Pacific all nailed it, one of the things that put them all over the top for me was realistic looking vehicles.

As much as The Battle of the Bulge gets murdered, think how awesome people would find that movie if they had Tiger II's, Mark IV's, Stug III's, hanomags, etc, etc rolling around on the battlefield.

If Kelly's Heroes (Rob's favorite movie....:wink2:) can get it right, should all the others.

You would think this movie being made in Russia they would have the resources and countless information on this battle to get it right! I mean it only happened on their soil!

It looks good. Is that Nick Cave's version of What a wonderful World?
I will watch this movie.

I think if you look hard enough there quick a lot of eastern front films out there now

:salute::

You are quite right George, I've driven a Prius and I'd say it's a bit Tank like, maybe not a Tiger but more a PzMkIII....but I don't think the MkIII has a reversing camera:wink2:

Not sure what was worse in the Bulge film, the 'German' Tanks or the final battle scene in the Desert........extreme global warming that one!^&grin

thing is Battle of the Bulge and Kelly's heroes' take some panning but for me they were excellent films made for entrainment and even advertised as such. In KH they had a decent tiger on a T-34 chassis which, blitz's about 90% of recent films which just don't care about even trying to make a replica look anything like what it should be.

I read the battle of the Bulge had to make do with what they had available at the time and, to have en mass AFV's used what they did for both sides. Must be quite hard with that restriction and a small budget to do what they envisioned.

some modern war films start or it seems from scripts that read once upon a time!!
