New Tiger what do you think? (2 Viewers)

Hello all:

Got mine today and its sweet dudes. Even the box is cool. The tank is huge(thats what shes says) so if you get one you'll need lots of room to display it. K&C should be proud on making such an incredible set.

Take Care
MCKENNA

Agree with McKenna about the tank, but having seen the figures in person, I am a bit underwelmed. There is nothing wrong with them, they just don't live up to the shear awsomeness of this beast of a tank.

Getting back to the tank itself Andy is correct that it may be the most detailed and is certainly the most correctly scaled of K&C's Tigers. The beat up, bent fenders over the tracks, the snorkels on the back, all the right parts in all the right places. Did I mention its HUGE! As far as the white and red numbers are concerned, it appears from the photos on the box and in the packaging that some of the Tunesian Tigers had white outlined red numbers. One of these tanks with the red outlined with white numbers is #75, another appears to be #124 (Andy only missed by one!). I am glad be put the red identification flag and the Afrika Corps symbol on the tank, as it would look awefully bland without them, and livens up the appearance quite a bit. I still think there is room for improvement on K&C tanks, in comparison to the $300 Figarti Tiger or maybe the newest Honour Bound Tigers (we will have to see them before we can make any judgment on that), but for a pure polystone tracked vehicle, this is the zenith of K&C's efforts to date. However, the Elefant and the Chaffee looked even better in the photographs, so I guess its wait until next month . . .

Having seen the Tiger finally, it's nice but to be honest, it doesn't blow me away. Yes, it's big, weathered and fully scaled but it's just another Tiger. Including the Figarti Tiger, I've got four other Tigers. I've got a feeling that it was sculpted some time ago as the track work isn't the same as more recent K & C issues, which is why it may seem there's room for improvement. On the other hand, the Chaffee looks tremendous.

Now, in the same package that I received the Tiger, not to hijack this thread, I receive some of the recent Battle of the Bulge Americans. The sculpting and painting on those are very impressive and I can't wait to display those and some other BBAs that I've had in the box in a new display cabinet I'm getting for Christmas.

To: Andy and K/C.......I really like the Tunsian Tiger especially its size.....It is "likely the best done" Tiger I tank by any manufacturer to date ........Battle of the Bulge US soldiers also excellent........ I am hoping that we see this tiger tank re-done in either a "winter version" or "german grey" version with different turret numbers since the mold already exists it would simply be a color change............if so I will purchase one.............Thank you again for a product very well-done...........Regards Vezzolf

Interesting site posted on Groundpounder's and worth checking out for Tiger fans. Photo gallery one pictures a Tunisia Tiger # 121 with the red numbering bordered in white.

It looks like Andy and Anna are entering a whole new phase of competition, and it looks to me like we are the winners. Having seen photos of the Honour Bound custom Tigers, they look a bit better than the K&C Desert Tiger. On the other hand, at $350 before you even see a crewman, they bloody well better. How does Andy respond? With the Elefant and the Chaffee, both of which look every bit as good as the Honour Bound Tiger to me, at $139 for the Elefant and $129 for the Chaffee, with crew. Frankly, if money were no object, I would take them all. There is not a loser in the bunch. But money being an object, I am going to stick with the K&C. At what amounts to three vehicles for the price of one, and quality levels that are (between the K&C Elefant and the Honour Bound Tiger), frankly, difficult to distinguish, the K&C vehicles are a better buy.

Having disabused myself of the notion that I could afford the HB Tigers (shipping will probably be another $50 or so, bringing the base model to $400), I took another look at my Tunisian Tiger and, upon further review, it actually looks pretty good and I like the crew. No, maybe it's not as perfect as HB but I think it's close and for those who disagree, to each his own.

I had initially decided that the Chaffee wasn't for me but the more I see it, it looks pretty good and will be on my buy list early next year (that will make George happy!).

Brad,Pass on these two K&C pieces that you had some doubts on, and your almost at the price of one of those stunning HB Tigers.

Some of these hobby choices are going to be tuff, but in my mind that HB tiger looks like some of the finest military modeling short of being scratch built. If I pass on a month or two of K&C buying in order to get an HB Tiger, then that just what I'll have to do.

Sorry, Dragoon, but I'd rather have the one Elefant and one Chaffee for the cost of one HB Tiger. If I buy these from Treefrog, with shipping, it costs me $272. Your basic HB Tiger cost $350, plus $50 or so shipping, so even before you add a crew, weathering, battle damage or one of those great looking bases, you're at $400. This thing cost could $500 plus.

Moreover, these haven't been issued before in 1/30 scale (not counting DD 19) whereas Tigers have been issued ad infinitum.

I recieved mine and I think its a great piece and the figures are very well done. I'm a little scared to put it on the same glass shelf with the other SLs because its pretty heavy. So right now it has its own place for now.

I got my Tiger today , I,m realy happy with it
its a big beast alright [dwarves the figarti tiger] .

As for the caffufle re garding honour bounds tiger
I think its a bit rough to criticse the price, K and C,s warbirds
and dioramas are both aimed at a selective end of the market
so why not these guys.

Theirs a good selection available for most budgets still ,
99% of the population would regard $100 for 4 toy soldiers
as being expensive so its all relative.

My britains premier armoured car still has its original price sticker of
$330 on the box , so the last few years of the hobby may prove
to be an anomally as far as prices go.

Vandilay,

I am not criticizing Honour Bound's prices, I think that they are producing a high quality limited production heavily customized item, and that people who want one will have to be willing to be charged accordingly. I also completely agree with you that pricing in this hobby is relative, and that 99% of the general population will think that the average set of soldiers is expensive. I am merely stating that as my resources are not unlimited, I am going to pass on this Honour Bound vehicle. I happen to have more Tigers than you can shake a stick at, including three of the original K&C mohagony Tigers which retailed at around the same price as the HB Tiger, a Heco Tin Tiger which was even more expensive, two Figarti Tigers (which in my humble opinion are the best of the lot, and far superior to the HB Tiger) and all of the K&C polystone Tigers, so another expensive Tiger is not an option I wish to pursue. That being said, I have passed on a few of K&C's new Warbirds, including the ME410 and the Fairey Swordfish, for similar economic concerns. As I said, if money was not an object, I definitely would have sprung for one of the HB normandy Tigers, probably a winter one as well, and the rest of the K&C Warbirds I had to pass on. But money is an object and with two small children and the holidays, a lot of my money that used to be directed into this hobby has been alotted elsewhere lately. For me, several different K&C tanks, including an early war Tunesian Tiger, an Elefant (which looks to me as detailed as the HB Tiger, albeit I have only seen both models in photos) and that hot new Chaffee are a better expenditure of my more limited Hobby resources than another Tiger.

Hi Louis

My post wasnt specificaly aimed at you , I thought the
same thing when criticism was being leveled at warbirds
pricing .None of this stuff is life and death and if its
outside of my budget ,theirs plenty of other nice alternatives,

Thats the great thing about the re release of warbirds and now
Honour bounds initiative ,collectors on all budgets [and the guys who crave acuarcy above all else] can be involved in the hobby.

I,m an off the shelf kind of purchaser
as my knowledge of armour etc is only ltd ,so I wouldnt even know
where to begin customizing a tank.So these probably arent for me
either [but I do like the look of the whittman tiger to go along with the club figure]

Cheers Rob
