Hate the first post here to be negative but wish someone could tell me why the Ravens can NEVER resign free agents??:mad: I really get tired of hearing about the Raven front office, management being one of the best but yet it seems players never want to resign with Baltimore?? I know, I know, every team loses players year in and year out but the Ravens just seem to be ahead of the class in this dept. so Jones, Smith gone waiting for Nagata to pen his good bye letter to the Sun, already looking to be a loonggg Season and it's not even April yet ...Sammy

I know it's frustrating Sammy, but the Ravens always seem to find guys to come in and do the job as good as or better than the guy who left, plus they draft well.

I'm in the same boat you are; Ridley and Vereen both likely gone, their two starting running backs from last year, Revis probably gone too, maybe back to the Jets? If they lose him, not sure how they make up for that.

With the salary cap, you have to be a genius to work the system and keep all of your guys, it's not easy.

One thing I learned as a fan, and I think a lot of teams in all sports follow this, is better to part company with someone a year too early than a year too late. The Pats are masters of doing that and they seem to have done OK. In today's sports, you need to constantly turn over the roster.

Australians might be a bit more interested in the NFL this year due to Hayne attempting to get into 49ers run on team. Seems Wiki have been very quick to call him an American Football player when not actually played yet.

Going to be fascinating to see if last years Player of the Year here can make it over in USA. I wish him luck as taking a big drop in pay to try for his dream to make it in NFL.

Jarryd Lee Hayne (born 15 February 1988) is an Australian-born American football player who has signed to play for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). Prior to joining the NFL he played professional rugby league for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League (NRL). He earned representative honours at All Star, State, and International levels (Australia and Fiji) throughout his rugby league career. He was awarded the Dally M Medal in 2009 and 2014 as the NRL's player of the year. In 2009 Hayne was named the best rugby league player in the world by winning the Rugby League International Federation's International Player of the Year award.

Latest update from todays paper :

Jarryd Hayne stands to earn more than $2 million over the next three years if he can make the 53-man roster at the San Francisco 49ers.

Fairfax Media can reveal Hayne's three-year contract with the 49ers, which has now officially been lodged with the NFL, is worth $US1.58 million – more than $2 million.

The contract includes a $US107,100 guarantee as well as an $US8000 signing bonus – financial incentives neither the Detroit Lions nor Seattle Seahawks were willing to offer the 27-year-old.

If Hayne, who is now part of the club's 90-man preseason roster, doesn't make the cut, he will still walk away with $US115,000.

But he stands to earn a further $US327,900 in his first year if he can earn a spot on the 53-man roster announced at the end of August.

While contract figures are not disclosed in the NRL, the details of Hayne's contract have been outlined on the NFL Players Association website.

His base salary for his rookie season is $US435,000, increasing in his second year to $US525,000 and $US615,000 in his third year.

It's far less than the million plus dollars a year he would have earnt had he remained in the NRL, but the former Parramatta superstar never cited financial gain as his reason for chasing an NFL contract.

Hayne enjoyed a farewell with friends on the central coast at the weekend and is expected to fly over to the United States next week to recommence individual training ahead of his first day at the 49ers on April 6.

Hayne's 40-yard dash time of 4.53 seconds would have been the equal sixth best time amongst the running backs at last month's NFL combine.

Fairfax Media has been told Hayne also registered a 20-yard shuttle time of 4.29 seconds at his pro day in San Diego in December.

The 20-yard shuttle is used to evaluate the quickness and change-of-direction ability of players by scouts, particularly for the NFL draft but also for collegiate recruiting.

Hayne's time was just 0.01 seconds outside the top 15 performing running backs at the NFL combine.

The drill requires a player to run for five yards then change in the opposite direction, run 10 yards and go back the same way before another five yard sprint in the other direction.

Hayne is being groomed as a running back, a position the 49ers' have now lost some depth in with starting running back Frank Gore set to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles later this week.

It is believed Gore, who has been at the 49ers for the past decade, will sign a three-year deal in which $US7.5 million in the first two years is guaranteed.

Hayne first flew over to the United States with former Eels trainer Hayden Knowles and close friend Ray Roumanous.

Roumanous said Hayne's commitment and dedication was like nothing he'd previously witnessed.

"I just wanted to see how he prepares himself and from day one it was just intensity the whole time and it was at level 10 the whole time," Roumanous said.

"For the first week, I'd see him lying on the floor reading up on his notes. I was asking myself 'what's he doing lying on the floor not on the bed', but I didn't know he had two golf balls under his back and massaging himself while he was studying. That's how it was, in down time, while he was learning, he was still working on his body.

"There were critics because they were uneducated and no one knew him. That was a good thing because it was backs against the wall. He quickly proved that he wasn't there for a holiday, but because he believed he could match it with the best."

A bit Po'd that Smith isn't resigning. I liked having a UMd guy playing for the local team. He was a big threat that will be hard to replace. --Al

And the hits just keep coming, Nagta gone, unfing real

It was rumored a couple of weeks ago that he would be leaving.

Yea, my bad, what was I thinking?? the Ravens would resign a solid free agent, ?? I'm sure the Ravens will get a Pro bowl player with that 4-5 round pick

I feel your pain Sammy.

Patriots have cut Brandon Browner, declined the option on Revis and he's now a free agent.

Rumors swirling he's as good as signed, sealed and delivered to the Jets.

So we had two very good/great corners; we cut one and let the other one walk.

It's funny how the shine of a Super Bowl win wears off of the apple so quickly.

Unbelievable.

The Patriots had no choice in declining the option as they would have taken a huge salary cap hit; both the Pats and Revis knew the option would be declined. Pats don't have as much flexibility as the Jets do (as Idzik was millions and millions under the cap last year) so if the Jets want to sign him they can; NE can only go so far.

Super Bowls and World Series wins go a long way to telling the fans, we might have to coast this year, save a few bucks and maximize the owners' profits..:rolleyes2: Things could be worse, if you are an Eagles' fan. Total team deconstruction by the coach. Going from most beloved coach to Eagles fans kill on sight wanted posters... Michael

Sammy:

Sorry, but your loss looks like our gain as Smith is going to be a Niner. I can use some good news as they are losing Gore and Lupati. The worst loss for me is Patrick Willis, he is one of my all-time favorite Niners, a class act on and off the field.

There's a lot of truth to this; people have been saying this today on local sports talk radio, that there is a lot of goodwill in the bank after the Super Bowl win.

That said, had they kept the band together so to speak, ie, keep Revis and Browner and go from there, they'd be favorites in the AFC to go back to the Super Bowl.

Now with Browner cut, if they don't at least keep Revis, forget it, they have no shot....................

Same with the Ravens, with the 5 players we have lost (more to come I'm sure) we maybe the bottom dwellers in the AFC North this season, you just can't replace Nagata, Mcphee,Jones,T. Smith, Daniels all of those guys are big reasons why the Ravens made a good push to get to N.E. last year so yea we will pick up a few more draft picks maybe sign a vet somewhere over a period of time but a team doesn't lose this many quality players and keep rolln, this is just like the year after winning the Superbowl a few years ago, lost Reed, Kruger, Ellerbe, C. Redman Ray retired and went 8-8 no playoffs, looks like time is repeating itself in ol Bmore sadly...Sammy

Well George if I were there or you were here I'd buy you a drink so we can cry in our beer together as I just read Revis is gone, but you know George we got baseball coming up so I guess it's not all bad :)...Sammy

The definition of irony; after the season ended, the Patriots were ranked #1 in the AFC, Ravens #2.

Now less than 5 hours into free agency, both of their seasons are now officially in the toilet.

For the life of me, I don't understand why they cut Browner if they did not have Revis locked up, it makes no sense at all.

The division is now up for grabs, I'll pencil the Bills in as champs as it stands right now.

So winning a Super Bowl does nothing for players, it's all about the money.

Like I didn't know that before.

What a nutpunch.

I'm seeing a Colts Seahawks Superbowl, I'm sure Andre Johnson will sign with Colts tommorow who just signed F. Gore, the Seahawks pretty much have kept the team together there as well as add the best TE in football with Graham, such as life, the O's did beat the evil Yanks today :)...Sammy

I just read the details of the Revis contract; 5 years/70 million/48 million guaranteed.

That makes him the highest paid cornerback in the history of the game.

Was there ever a doubt that the moron owner of the Jets wouldn't bend over and do whatever it took to sign him once the Patriots declined his option?

Guys like Revis will make a **** ton of money as long as there are ****ing morons for owners like Woody is.

Wonder if those assclown Jets fans will boo Woody now?

Have to love this though; Revis comes here, the Patriots win a Super Bowl, which is a Jets fans worst nightmare, now he resigns with the Jets.

Hope he enjoyed his Super Bowl win, he'll never get a whiff at another one again.

And I'm sure he'll hold out in year four of that contract too.

On the bright side, the Patriots have plenty of cap room now, close to 14 million.

They'd better get to work.

He has his ring and went where the money is. Careers are short in the NFL so you can't begrudge anyone the money.

I'm glad he's back. Back where he belongs.

George
So Revis is gone , he went for the money
Do u think he will be going to the SB with the Jets, don't think so
They need more than Revis
There going nowhere with Babba Smith at Qb
The pats they always find a way to get a guy or two
that fits the demand
Well let see how it will turnout
Brady and the boys
