Ok, interesting first round for sure. Steelers trade Martavius Bryant for the 79th pick overall, wonder if they know something about Bryant? Kind of odd that we get rid of receiver #3 when we just finally set the 3 and it has been in the paper how happy the Steelers are to have WR settled??? What gives/?

Next - why in the hell did the Ravens draft a TE instead of Calvin Ridley who was still on the board as a receiver......................huh? Not that I am that upset, but Sammy I bet you are!

Finally Steelers draft a SS who I thought we just replaced with guy from Green Bay???????? I give up on figuring this out.

I was happy with Cowboy's first round pick...
LB Leighton Vander Esch Boise State...
had an unreal 141 tackles his senior year...
5th in the FBS...
with Sean Lee being injury prone...
Jaylon Smith still not 100%...
Hitchens gone in free agency...
that was a good pick...
they are gonna need him as the Giants got Saquon Barkley...
he's a beast...

if Courtland Sutton is still around when they get their second pick...
I hope they take him...

I really expected the Browns to draft Barclay. That was a bit of a surprise.

Prost!
Brad

I think the Giants made a terrible mistake. They thought short term but in a couple of years they will need a QB. It's a remarkable example of short sighted thinking.

Tom I was shocked by the Bryant trade too. I knew they wanted rid of him, but I thought he’d get them more then he did. Seems to me he’s very talented and was just unhappy there.

Mike , I was shocked Dallas didn’t beef up the o line. Wasn’t day getting nailed all last year by pass rushers?

Barkley is beast and I think he will continue to produce at the next level. Was it worth drafting him so high? For me, the jury is still out on that. From what I've read the Giants believe Manning still has a "few more years left" which can be taken a number of ways. Good years? Bad years? And apparently the Giants have a tremendous amount of confidence in the backup, Davis Webb.

Falcons needed help on the Defensive front, especially on the line but they took the best player available when it was their turn to pick. I like it. I don't know if Julio will be in Atlanta many more years, tbh. Is there anyone else questioning Mayfield at #1? I love the kid, I love his energy, his swagger, but I never thought he was #1 overall material. Maybe the Browns know something other don't? lol. Historic draft for QBs though. I think Rosen is the cream of the crop.

Barkley is NFL ready but how much a running back improves a team is questionable. I wonder how Sam Darnold is going to pan out with the Jets? He is a solid kid with a ton of talent but needs to be developed which is something the Jets are not great at. One trend that is increasingly clear is that trading down for multiple picks is the better option than having one higher round pick.

I completely agree. How do you take a running back at #2 in the draft when your starting QB is 37 years old. Stupid!!

I think Manning has been on the downslide for a couple of years. He will be finished in a couple of years and then what? There is no doubt that Barkley will be a wonderful player but the NFL is not a running back league any more, it's a QB driven league.

And you can't run without an offensive line opening holes, something the Giants have been completely unable to do for the last 5+ years. Plus running backs are very injury prone and have notoriously short careers. I hope I'm wrong and the guy ends up in the Hall of Fame, but I think this will be remembered as an asinine pick, especially if Sam Darnold pans out as a starting QB for the jets.

I'd like to think that this is not the kind of pick George Young would have made.

The Jets brass have bet their careers on Darnold. They better have been right.

There is a tendency to throw a young QB into the fire. They pay these guys a ton of money and the fans want instant results. That often backfires. Darnold needs some grooming. Put him out there as the starter on a sub-average team and he is going to get killed. His confidence will drop and the fans will turn against him. He needs a year or so as a backup. He was a turnover machine last year at SC with a tendency to fumble and force throws. At the same time, he is a rock solid kid and competitor with a ton of natural talent.

Zach...

Dak had 32 sacks in 2017...averaging about 2 a game...around the league average...
for a point of reference on a player you are very familiar with...
Brady was sacked 35 times in 2017...again...close to the average...

Dak's numbers are kind of padded...
8 of Dak's sacks game were in one game...
a whopping 25% of them...against Atlanta...
Tyron Smith...LT Pro Bowler was out for that game...
Atlanta's Adrian Clayborn just wore out the Dallas replacements to the point of embarrassing...
Clayborn had 6 sacks on Dak by himself...
one guy in one game...6 sacks by himself...hahaha...made my stomach hurt...
almost broke Atlanta's all time team record of 6 sacks in one game by a player..

that game was a disaster in every aspect...
on offense...Zeke Elliott was out that game...
no running game...
Alfred Morris could not move the ball effectively...
they got way behind and had to pass...

on defense Sean Lee was out that game...
they couldn't stop Atlanta at all...
it was a rout...
27-7...

Tyron Smith claims he is 100% healthy now...
healthier than ever for the 2018 season...
I hope he is...

Dallas has no speed receivers...
none...
and they all run poor pass patterns...
especially Dez...
who is gone...
they have picked up 2 decent wide receivers in free agency...
Deonte Thompson (Buffalo) and Allen Hurns (Jacksonville)...

they do need an offensive line man...
Dak needs better protection for sure...

Dallas has all these Pro Browlers on their offensive line...
and they are very good on blocking on run plays...
but honestly...
they are not very good on pass protection...

we picked up Fleming from NE in free agency...
I asked George...
who else would know more?
George told me has pretty good...

with Ridley and Moore gone in round one...
I'm hoping Courtland Sutton from SMU will be available in round 2...
and they will take him...

but I doubt it...
and they rarely pick who I like anyway...

With the additions of Crabtree, Snead, Brown at WR the Ravens played a solid hand with the South Carolina TE, looks good on paper so we'll see....As far as this last pick with Lamar the Heisman winner, I can hear the fans chanting his name at home when Flacco goes 3 and out quickly.

The NFL draft was on TV? I missed it I was watching The Home Shopping Network.

I hear ya, the TE was a solid pick they need, but Ridley should be around a lot longer than the 3. I always think teams should draft the best player available and as I am sure you read, the Ravens were looking for another WR - Dez - he turned down Ravens deal yesterday before the draft. It has been a big hubbub here all day.

A lot of great posts in this thread, this one speaks to me the most.

Couldn't agree more, I give up trying to figure out the draft.

The Patriots drafted a guard and a running back.

This after their defense got absolutely undressed by Foles the tomato can in the Super Bowl.

I blame Vrabel and the Titans; they made a trade and moved one spot in front of NE and took the kid from Alabama, the linebacker who had PATRIOT written all over him, thanks Vrabel.

Why draft a running back, they have four already?

The edge rusher from BC was still there at 31 and they didn't take him.

Can't wait to lose the Super Bowl this year to the Rams 50-49...............

I saw Jason Witten announced his retirement today...
gonna be hard to replace...
he's getting pretty old...
and isn't what he was in his prime...
but he will be missed on the field and in the locker room...
a great career...
very dependable...
so...
that coupled with Hanna retiring...
I'm guessing some tight ends might get drafted in the next rounds......
