Alright fellows, Broncos won in 2016 time to turn the page on that season and look forward to this season!!!! and I can't turn the page fast enough!!!!!!! my Ravens had a miserable season and hoping a few good draft picks/trades (less injuries!!) can get them back into the hunt in the new season, lots of bits and bobs going on already, a new video of that moron Manziel at a strip club drunk as a skunk, if any team picks up that idiot after March 9th they get what they deserve...nothing!! saw some Superbowl 51 picks and looks like another Patriot/Panther Superbowl..yea real shocker, really hate to say this but if the Steelers can keep Bell healthy don't be surprised to see them make a push to the Superbowl next season, as far the the NFC Panthers will still be a strong team but I'm looking for the Cardinals to be even better with a player here and there to help, yea, I know baseball hasn't even started :) but why wait til the last minute^&grin...Sammy

Frankly, Sammy, I am not looking forward to this season. My Giants got rid of Tom Coughlin, a terrific coach who did the best with the talent he was given, so was not the problem, and kept Jerry Reese, an abysmal GM who provided virtually no talent on defense, and was the big problem. Now this same Genius gets $60 million dollars in cap space and a top 10 draft pick to try to remedy the problem. Based on his track records in both the draft and big free agent signings, I have absolutely no optimism.

Sammy:

Never to early for some NFL talk.

The 9er's are going to be pretty bad. The most I can hope for is that they are competitive. I also hope that the Colin Kaepernick drama ends soon. Current rumors have the Rams interested in him but the 9er's don't want to trade him to a division rival. There is also word that his teammates do not want him back as he turned into a real Cam Newton when things got bad.

In any event, I am looking forward to this thread.

Lou, your boys aren't far off, if they can fix their defense and Manning plays like he did in 2015 they could easily win the East next year...Sammy

I did read that Cappy wanted a strait out release from the 49'ers?? which at this rate might be the best unless the new coach can use him in a run/gun style offense he ran in Philly...Sammy

Sammy,

I agree, if they can fix their defense . . . the problem is Jerry Reese, the guy responsible for breaking the defense, is the guy who gets to try to fix it. You give a competent GM 60 million dollars of cap space and a top ten draft pick in a defense rich-draft and there should be a marked improvement. The problem is most Giants fans, and more importantly most of the NFL insiders who have commented on the subject, don't think Jerry Reese is a competent GM.

The Patriots have cut Brandon LaFell and Scott Chandler, saving about 5 million against the cap.

LaFell was very good last year, he fell off a cliff this year; for whatever reason, this team cannot solve their wide receiver problem whether it's through the draft or via free agency, the position is a total hot mess.

Chandler killed the Patriots when he played for the Bills, I thought him and Gronk together were going to be awesome, but it did not pan out.

Wonder if they are gearing up for something big; extended Brady for cap relief, no first round pick, plenty of money to play with.

Free agency starts on Wednesday, so we'll see.....................

Doesn't matter George, Billecheck could put me out there as a wide out and still win!!!! :) that team just reloads every year as long as Brady and coach are there...Sammy

After they lost the 2006 AFCCG to Manning, they loaded up on offense with Moss, Welker and Stallworth and signed Thomas on defense and went to the SB the following year.

After they lost the 2013 AFCCG to Manning again, they got Revis, Browner and LaFell and went to the SB the following year.

After a third loss to Frankenforehead, will they now load up again to make another SB run?

We'll see, rumors are swirling they are going to make a big splash in free agency; if they do, heads will explode all over the NFL, so we'll see..................

Deflate-gate is back. A three judge panel of Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit held a hearing yesterday and were skeptical of Brady's claims. It was not a good day for him. When the Court rules, it can be appealed to the entire CA.

Court of Apeals Has Hearing on NFL Appeal of Brady Suspension.

Brad,
When these three judges overturn the decision and the suspension is back on, what are Brady's/NFLPA's options, do they take their medicine or can they appeal the appeal?

This is appauling............:wink2:

George, they can appeal to the full Court of Appeals.

I would have thought that their review would be limited to the terms of the agreement between the NFL and players, not the facts of the case, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I have no idea how they are reviewing more than the issue on appeal

I am reading a lot of emphasis on the judges questioning regarding Brady's lack of cooperation in the investigation...especially destroying the phone...so yes...they have gone past the possible knowledge of his complicity in deflating the balls...to tampering with the evidence...

I personally sympathize with Brady, I don't think the inflation of the ball really gave them any competitive advantage, but when I read the District Judge's opinion, while I agreed with the outcome, I thought the District Judge significantly over-stepped his authority in reviewing what was, in effect, an arbitrator's decision as empowered by the collective bargaining agreement. The standard of review on a mandatory arbitration of this type is "arbitrary and capricious". The District Judge's finding that Brady did not know he could be penalized for destroying his phone, in effect spoliation of evidence, seemed to go well beyond the standard of review when you consider the broad discretionary powers of determining penalties afforded to the commissioner under the agreement. If the 2nd Circuit panel agreed with this analysis and vacates the District Court's decision on this ground, then the panel would examine the record as a whole to decide whether the commissioner acted arbitrarily. Hence the questions on the other issues. That being said, there is no guaranty that the Court of Appeals will reverse. I have argued over 1,000 appeals in various Appellate Courts, including a few in the 2nd Circuit, and many times the questions seem to favor one side, but the decision goes the other way.

I read the decision when it came out last year and I seem to recall (or maybe I imagined it) that the District Court had to look at the question whether the NFL's ruling against Brady complied with the provisions of the CBA. If that's correct, would the standard still be arbitrary and capricious or would the standard be something similar to a determination of compliance with the terms of the CBA in all material respects?

My understanding is that once it is determined the collective bargaining agreement calls for mandatory arbitration, whether the arbitrator's decision has any reasonable basis on the record, or was arbitrary and capricious is the standard of review. My problem with the District Judge's decision was it seemed to be based on a concept of notice of the possible penalty, which made no sense to me at all. It seems to me that the only possible penalties imposed under the CBA are fines and suspensions so the basis of the decision appeared very shaky to me. But again, just because the questions were asked is no indication that the panel will rule that way.

The NFL is really determined to burn the Patriots to the ground.

As was written today in an excellent local column in one of the Boston papers (yeah, funny, I'm one of those dinosaurs who actually still reads a newspaper...............and I have flip phone too, fancy that.................), they are being punished because the other owners feel they got off too lightly with Spygate, plus there have been a few other things that have gone on down there that flew under the radar but torked some people off nevertheless.

As a result, the league is not going to let this thing go, they will pursue it to the ends of the earth to make sure the team, any players who they feel have cheated and the organization as a whole get punished.

Wells determined the team/organization did nothing wrong, yet Kraft was fined a million dollars and the team was docked a 1st and a 4th round draft pick anyway.

Brady was suspended for four games over what was determined to be basically an equipment violation, his suspension was on par with PED use.

And the judge who threw the suspension out made the point that he performed better in the AFCCG in the second half with properly inflated footballs than he did in the first half with underinflated footballs, so what competitive advantage was gained by taking air of the footballs (if that in fact happened, the ideal gas law explains how air came out, but science/facts be ****ed, this is a witch hunt and facts go out the window).

One way or another, at this point, as a fan, I just want this to come to a conclusion and be over and done with, either vacate the suspension for good or put it back in play and let the back up get out there for four games.

The ruling is expected to come down in June, early July before the start of training camp.

Imagine this thing is going on for a year and a half.

Absolutely unbelievable.

At the end of the day. The Pats beat the Seahawks (no inflated or deflated balls but a questionable coaching call at the end). The NFL needs to move on. I just hope this doesn't effect Brady's legacy. Regardless of what you think of the Pats. Coach B and Brady are 2 of the greatest and deserve to go in the hall.

I just hope this doesn't effect Brady's legacy.

Sorry, it already has; did you see the pregame ceremony honoring the past 49 Super Bowl MVPs, Brady got booed back to the stone age when he came out.

He's forever tainted now in a lot of peoples minds.

Oh well, that's for him to deal with.....................
