NFL Season 2016-17 (1 Viewer)

Caught the Lady Gaga press conference last night, a reporter asked her "The last time there was a Super Bowl here, there was a wardrobe malfunction, what steps have you taken to ensure it won't happen again?"............her reply "I suppose you're going to blame the Patriots for that too then?"...........

Outstanding.

As far as the game; I'm not into making predictions or claiming my team will win, not my style.

We'll see what Belichick and Patricia come up with to stop the greatest offense in the history of the NFL, or so I'm told as I listen to all the pundits.

As far as Brady; blitz him and he'll kill you, play a zone defense and he'll kill you, play man to man and he'll find the open guy, so best of luck with that. The way you beat him is pressure up the middle; can Atlanta do that, we'll see as that's the key to the game, pressure up the middle.

I have a feeling the Falcons are going to get a heavy dose of Blount force trama, Deon Lewis and James White, keep ramming the ball down their throats until they can stop you, which does two things; keeps drives going, keeps the ball out of "Matty Ice's" hands.

See the Giants game plan vs the Buffalo Bills in the 1990 Super Bowl, the defensive game plan Belichick came up with for that game is in the HOF.

55 hours till kick off...........................

Top reason Falcons will win on Sunday:

"Matty Ice eats Varsity dogs; Brady eats macrobiotic tofu"

(Borrowed from Sweetwater beer.)

If you don't know what a varsity dog is, shame on you! 😜

I'm going to roll the dice against my better judgment on go with Falcons 37 Pats 31. It's hard to bet against the Pats and I'm concerned the big stage might cause Atlanta to play tight, but they can score and I like their secondary. If it is a shootout, they have a chance. If they sit back and let Brady pick them apart with 40 completions and control the clock while wearing out their D, they are doomed.

If you want a serious dog, go to Coney Island. No jv stuff allowed ^&grin

The (original location) Varsity is an Atlanta institution, and one of a kind cultural experience. It's within a few minutes of the Ga Tech campus and Coke World HQ.

Couple Varsity chili dogs, a side of Vidalia onion rings, with, of course, "the real thing", a classic meal.

Sadly, my body can't handle Varsity visits but once or twice a year anymore... 😰

I am picking the Patriots, possibly in a rout.

The best hot dogs I have ever had are from a place called Happy Hound in Los Gatos. Sierra's original location was only a block or two from it. On Saturdays I would go load up on toy soldiers then head over the the Hound and load up on Preservatives and nitrates. It is probably no coincidence that my cholesterol levels went down when Sierra moved to a their new location.

Varsity sounds like one of those delicious experiences for which you pay big time later. I love dogs but they don't love me, particularly after a trip my law school mates and I made to Fenway in 1978 (I was attending law school in Springfield, Mass). I had about seven or eight of those Fenway Franks. Never again! I confine myself to one nowadays.

On the game, there doesn't seem like a lot of buzz, except in NE and Georgia I'm sure. Now, I've been down and out with the flu for a few days so that could explain it. I think most hope for a good game and I think it will be a close one as these are the two best teams in the NFL.

The Varsity (original location) is, so they claim, the largest drive in restaurant in the world. It also serves more Coke product from one location than anywhere else in the world. Including parking, it supposedly takes up two city blocks.

The food is quite tasty but also quite greasy. It's very affordable. Compete meal probably around $5. It will tear your system up if you are a delicate flower, like myself :)

The staff have their own vocabulary/slang. One orders from a counter. Have your mind made up and payment ready. They don't tolerate slow customers, too many waiting behind you! LOL

Frosted Orange, rings, dog all the way, all classics. I like their burgers. I've never had the courage/foolishness to order a salad there, which I believe they, in theory, offer.

Lotta chatter about the game here, of course. My Saturday morning trainer person is a NE native and Pats fan. She had Pats garb on this morning. I didn't mouth off for fear of being assigned extra burpees, lol

I remember when the Falcons were in the Super a Bowl in 1999. It felt like they were lucky to be there. Best thing for me was I won $500 in a scoring grid.

This team has, so far, played like a legit contender. Win or lose, they don't appear to be a fluke or flash in the pan. Time will tell. I've been a Falcons fan since the mid 70s, going back to Tommy Nobis, Steve Barkowski, William Andrews, etc. Decades of disappointment, frustration and let downs. In the early 80s they had a shot. In Conf finals against the Cowboys, with a lead, Roger Staubach got knocked out of the game. We all thought it was in the bag. Then, unknown back-up Danny White came in and led the Cowboys to victory. That one hurt for years. On par with the Braves '91 WS loss to the Twins.

Of course I want the Falcons to win. But my first hope is they give a good account of themselves. They played extraordinarily well all season and it'd be unfortunate if that were to unravel in one game.

The good news is most people don't expect them to win, so they don't carry he burden of expectations. That may help them play looser. If the Falcons can execute as they did all season, the offense will score points. The question will be the D. If the offense controls the ball that helps keep the D rested and play better. It may come down to time of possession. And lucky bounces :)

I expect a tight, multiple lead changing game. Makes me anxious thinking about it. Lol

One last time: GO FALCONS!

We've got a late work call tomorrow. Something about a Football game...anybody want to fill me in?

lol

Here's my predictions: The League already won the game, the viewers just don't know it. The halftime show will feature some social justice thing, somebody will take a knee during the Anthem, and the play on the field will not live up to the hype.

ESPN and the NFL Network are both reporting Atlanta's starting center does not have a sprained ankle as previously reported, but rather a fracture in the leg.

If the Patriots don't exploit this with pressure up the middle, I'll be stunned.

As reported by one of the talking heads on ESPN, Atlanta will probably keep a back in the backfield on passing downs to provide extra protection.

Good; one less passing option as a result.

Six more hours to go..............................

I smell disinformation. I hope....

Nobody in the AF front 5 has missed a start all year. Couldn't last forever. Hopefully the O line backups are well rested, 100% healthy and eager to get some playing time in the SB.

You can't hide or lie about an injury, it's against NFL rules, you have to disclose any and all injuries leading up to a game. It happened during the NFCCG, he played through it.

Reports are if this was the regular season, he'd be out 6-8 weeks.

They'll shoot him up and wrap it up.

Someone told me it's actually a better to have injury than what was reported initially, I think that being a sprained ankle.

I've also been told the back up center is no slouch and they don't lose a lot if he plays instead.

Regardless, the O-line has to protect Ryan like they've done all year. It all starts there.

No dog in this hunt that's for sure so good luck to Rutledge, George and may the best team win...smoked honey cured baby back ribs almost done, home made fries, Mac/cheese and southern style cornbread to round out a great meal, now I can only hope for a exciting game to make it even better.

My son told me before he went to his party that Dan Quinn went to Morristown HS in Morristown NJ. Have to root for a local guy.

Well it all comes down to the first 10 minutes of the third quarter. If Atlanta adds to their lead, this game could turn into a blow out.

Shocker so far, but you just can't write off Brady and NE. They have the edge in Time of Possession, offensive plays, offensive yards. If they can just stop shooting themselves in the foot... -- Al
