NFL Season 2016-17 (2 Viewers)

Mike,

Houston would have to be insane to trade Watt for Romo. Romo is an extremely fragile player, who has not made it through a regular season without a catastrophic injury in the last 3-4 seasons.

Louis...
that's not totally accurate...
on his not making it through a regular season without a catastrophic injury going back 4 years...
he played the entire season of 2013...went 8-8...
he played the entire season of 2014...went 12-4...
after 2 games...that he went 2-0...he was injured in 2015...
then he sat out this season...2016...but was activated on week 10 ready to play...
they chose not to play him so they wouldn't disturb Dak's mojo in his 11-1 start...
Romo opted for a steel plate in his collar bone...not a mend on it's own method as before...
as doctors said this would prevent the collar bone break again...
he played one series this year in week 17...against Philly and went 3-4 for a 81 yard drive for a TD...
Romo's career seems defined by his collar bone...a mishandled field goal attempt against Seattle and his lack of post season success...
that's all any non Cowboy fans seem to remember...
Romo is blamed for not winning with a team that has had no secondary since Deion Sanders retired some 20 years ago...
in the last 8-9 years...he has always been in the top 5 passer ratings...

as you probably know...Watts on the other hand has some "major fragile issues" himself...
he sat out almost this entire season after re-injuring the same herniated disc that he has had surgically repaired twice already...
this was his 3rd surgery on the same disc...
he may never be the same player he was when you refer to him as arguably the best defender in the league...
coupled with his past abdominal strain hernia issues and past knee issues...
he is a risk on himself...

Houston is loaded with premium pass rush players...Clowney and Mercilus...
topped with a great linebacking crew and a pretty good secondary...
they are paying Watts 100 million for a 7 year contract...
he may never be the same player he was...they may want to get out of that contract...
they need an accurate QB as bad as any team in the league...
like the Giants...that's the only piece of the puzzle they are missing...

Watts may end up a pig in a poke...
a shell of what he was before...
he may re-injure the same disc for a 4th time...
and sit some more...

I don't think this is as far fetched as you do...

Thanks, good luck to you as well; in the end, it's just sports, entertainment, the toy box of life.
Again; it's just sports fellas, nothing to get upset over or lose friends over.........................

so true...but it's still nice to see your team do well...

I think J.J. Watt is overrated and the perception is that he's more of a "me" person than a team player. This perception could be wrong just as the belief that he may be overrated. Even if they are and he is still a top or the top defensive player in the NFL, a QB is worth much more than a defensive player. You can have the greatest defense in the world but unless you have a great QB like a Brady or a Ryan, you're not going to win. From the Dallas side, and Mike would know better, he may complement their existing defense.

My only question about this trade would be whether the Texans would be taking a major salary cap hit if they added Romo.

They'd be better off with Kirk Douglas..............

Hey now, dont be dissing on KD! He may be up there in years but the guy was a mans man for many years and we have precious few of those around these days! :)

They'd be better off with Kirk Douglas..............

he turned 100 a few months ago...
I saw an interview with him a while back...
he might be tough calling plays at the line...
I couldn't understand one word he said in the interview...

but he was looking good...^&grin...

X-Z wide...F stop...Omaha...Omaha...Omaha...hike!

now he's what you call fragile...

he was recently on an episode of The Walking Dead...

Getting into the Super Bowl swing of things in my house this morning- watching NFL network showing clips of Brady at the Combine- do yourselves a favor and watch as it is very comical. It's like watching that 15 year old who hasn't quite grown into his body yet. Posted the second slowest time for a QG in NFL history in the 40.........even got beat by Vince Wilfork! {sm4}

Say what you want about the guy, in a lot of ways he is a throwback to the old days when players stuck around with teams. I heard one of the announcers say he's posted 17 seasons now. It doesn't seem like he has been around that long. You have to admire someone who took his one shot and didn't just "do a good job" but made himself and his team a legend.

George- enjoy the show!! If not for any other reason than to get a respite from the cold!

I read (or saw, can't remember which) a piece about him and his diet and how he keeps in superb shape. Based on his current performance, he can probably still play a long time, music to Belichick and Patriot fans, not so to anyone else.

The diet is designed and run by his wife, Gisele, right? I think that is proof enough of its effectiveness. Where do I sign up?

Those shots of him are comical, slower than slow, no wonder he lasted until the 6th round, 199th pick overall.

His rookie year, the Patriots kept 4 QB's, which would be unheard of now, most teams only carry two.

What a story; people can hate on the guy all they want, but he made himself into the GOAT when it comes to QB's, it's him, Manning and Montana as the top 3.

If and that's a big IF he wins his 5th Super Bowl, he'll stand alone.

Chris, I look forward to seeing you at Louis' shindig in about six weeks or so........................

Interesting article in today's WSJ. Not predicting a Falcons win, but pointing out that SB experience has not historically been a predictor of the winner.

Super Bowl Experience Is Super Meaningless

Based on previous results, the New England Patriots won’t gain an edge on the Atlanta Falcons because of the previous Super Bowls on their résumés

The Super Bowl is second nature to the New England Patriots, making a record ninth appearance in LI—seven during the Bill Belichick/Tom Brady era. That stands in stark contrast to the Falcons, who appeared once nearly 20 years ago, have a second-year head coach, a QB who has never been on this national stage and just four players with any experience in the big game.

This gap is often cited as a primary reason for the Patriots being installed as a three-point favorite. But Super Bowl history over the past 40 seasons says clearly that experience is not just overrated, it’s meaningless.

New England has 17 more players with Super Bowl experience (21) than the Falcons. In the last 40 Super Bowls, a team has held this advantage over its opponent 38 times. These teams are 16-22 in those games.

When the Count added up the total numbers of Super Bowl appearances by the players on both teams, the more experienced teams were 17-22. An edge at the game’s most important position didn’t matter either. Teams have had a QB with prior Super Bowl experience 19 times versus a team like the Falcons and Matt Ryan with none and are 9-10.

Most eerily, winners in all of these Super Bowls have 815 player games of experience compared with 816 for the losers and both winners and losers each have exactly 554 individual players who have previously played in the game, according to Stats, LLC. And the teams with advantages in experience equal to or greater than this year’s Patriots have about the record you’d expect if it didn’t really matter at all—7-6.

The experience gap for the Falcons is tied for the 14th most in this period. The biggest was when the 1992 Dallas Cowboys had 35 fewer players with Super Bowl experience when they met the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVII. Dallas won, 52-17

Maybe I am the only one, but the two week gap in-between the Championship games and the Super Bowl seems unnecessary?

But it makes everyone watch the ProBowl....hahahah!
At least the NFL thinks so! {sm3}

I was impressed by the Falcons D including their secondary against the Packers. Granted they were allowed to get away with a lot of holding and the Packers had the flu, but they looked much better than the pathetic Steelers D. I can't understand how teams allow Brady to simply catch and throw those short passes over and over again. There is no way to get pressure on him when the ball is out of his hands so quickly. I would load the box with every defender within 10 yards of the line and make him beat me with his arm downfield but only after picking himself up from his backside after every pass. You can't give the Pats those short 5-10 yards passes through the entire game. It moves the chains and wears out and demoralizes the D. The most amazing thing about Brady is how he never gets hurt because he almost never gets hit. Look at the two guys who backed him up this year when he was suspended. They both go down with injuries in a couple of games, but he has played for decades without a major injury. If you want to be beat the Pats, it starts with laying some wood to Brady to get him out of his comfort zone. He might still beat you downfield but that is the tradeoff I would make if I were the Falcons. If Brady can stand in the pocket all night and take the big hits while throwing completions to guys 20-yards or more downfield, you tip your hat to him. But don't sit back and just let him throw to an open guy over and over again to move the chains like the idiotic Steelers did.

Agree, the Falcons need to take the lesson from the Steelers that if you are going zone, you have to blitz. The Steelers blitzed the least amount of times in their entire history that game, Blitzburgh what???. I swear, when Leveon went out, the playbook on both sides of the ball died. Again, though, credit to Brady, he doesn't get hit and he is got be the most accurate of all time, he rips Defenses apart with his passing. I am looking forward to a great game. I do think the Falcons will have studied the Steelers tape and make adjustments, I don't think you will see a swiss cheese zone employed by Atlanta in this one. If they do, then their coaching staff will get schooled and they will likely win "Chief Dunces" of the year award. They had to have seen what the rest of the US has seen in previous Pats games.

TD

the only way I see Brady being beat...is pressure in his face all day long...
and that would take a 2015 Denveresque playoff type pass rush...
which I don't think Atlanta can muster...
as great as he is...Beasley can't do it by himself...

so I don't see that happening effectively...

now with all that said...
Atlanta's defensive coach...had Von Miller act as Beasley's mentor this year...
so I guess we could say that worked...^&grin
Beasley is a beast...

that coupled with Ryan having a great day...
might be their only chance...
with Jones...Gabriel and the rest of their receiving core...

I could see that happening...like it has all year...
if NE doesn't get enough pressure on him...
Ryan can light up the scoreboard...

Ryan set a 2016 NFL record...with TD receptions by 13 different receivers...
that's just crazy...that must have been every TE...WR and running back on the team...

Nothing in depth for me for my pick, just going with a gut feeling the Pats will win this one, maybe the best thing to happen to Brady was no pre-season, missed the first 4 games, looked like he got better as the season wore on, 31-23 Pats over the Falcons is my pick.
