NFL Season 2016-17 (4 Viewers)

Tom...

it's gonna be very tough to comeback in this game...but you had a good season...

I didn't understand the Brady fumble and what the referees referred to as "a clear Pittsburgh recovery" early in the 3rd quarter...

what happened on that?

That was an odd call, I thought the one video showed a fumble and when Hargrave came up with it, seems like a recovery, but I don't know, it sounds like they couldn't conclusively see it.

All in all, you can't play soft secondary zone with Tom Brady, the Steelers never adjusted and they didn't get a consistent rush. Hats off to Brady , the O Line and the Defense.

Tough loss, but when Bell went out early, I just had a bad feeling. New England is a tough place to play anytime and with a seemingly fully healthy Pats, tough mountain to climb. And on top of that, when you make mistakes, they make you pay.

The Super Bowl should be interesting as I think the two best are playing in it.

Did you see the stat that Manning, Brady and Big Ben have/will be in the last 14 out of 17 superbowls? That is incredible in itself. I think Brady may just be the best of all time regardless of whether he wins this one or not.

The GB defense wasn't up to the task of containing them. Moreover, when you play on the road you need to score first and fast. That didn't happen today and it cost them.

Seriously? The Falcons are clearly at least the second best team in the NFL. What really "cost them" was not being as good as the Falcons. Period.

No, they were not as good as the Falcons, today. Duh!

Instead of being defensive about it, try to enjoy it. Weren't you the one who said people shouldn't get wrapped up in pro sports teams. Not bad advice.

Rutledge,

The Falcons are in the final 2 and they have done that with consistency. Any Given Sunday is just that. The Falcons and the Patriots played nearly perfect games today and they won. They are the best 2 because in my opinion not only did they win, but they have been very consistent at this high level all season and being able to do that in the playoffs against 2 surging football teams (The Packers and Steelers were also undefeated for a number of weeks after early adversity). This is in my opinion a key point b/c a lot of times the front runners run out of gas, get lazy or just plain get caught off guard. Instead, today was about the 2 best playing their best.

Now that I am a fan on the sideline, I think the sbowl should be a thoroughly enjoyable game. I am looking forward to it and Good Luck to both you and George.

Condolences to Tom, congratulations to George. Should be an interesting Super Bowl. The Falcons looking like the most dominant offense, the Patriots the more balanced team. The all time great vs this year's MVP trying to win the big one.

Just got home from the game, that was quite a performance on both sides of the ball. Pittsburg hung in there for most of the game, not scoring on first and goal from the 1 foot line was a killer, a few bad calls went against them too, that awful roughing call on #50, all he did was make a tackle, I don't get it. Patriots DB's were bit handsy on the Steelers on a couple of plays with no calls, I don't the whole Brady fumble/recovered by the Steelers/New England kept the ball?

That said, Brady carved up the Steelers zone defense, once Bell went out, the threat of the run was gone.

Condolences to Tom, Steelers still had a good year, they need another receiver and another DB or two and they'll be right back in the playoffs again next year.

It's on to Houston, Miss Tiffany is working on tickets right now, I want to go, this game is going to be epic.

Patriots are 3 point favorites, over is 57, that sounds about right.

My early thoughts on the game; for New England, it will be a business trip, for Atlanta, it will be the whole "we're just glad to be there" mantra.

We'll see how Matty Ice does vs a defense that disguises what they do very well, very difficult to audible against New England.

Atlanta plays zone, just like Pittsburg, Brady feasts on zone defenses, they were 25th in the league in total defense, about 25 points per game allowed.

No deflategate bullshit this year, they will be all business; to be the best, you have to beat the best, so we'll see what happens.

A record 9th trip to the Super Bowl, Brady and Belichick in line to win their 5th each, both a record for player and coach, Brady goes to his 7th Super Bowl, record for players.

What a thrill it is to be a fan of this team; I'm too young to remember the Celtics run of the 60's, I will never see anything like what I've seen with this team since 2001, regardless of whether they win or lose the Super Bowl, what a ride the last 16 years have been.

Goodell did his best, but he could not derail this team...................thanks for giving Brady a four week vacation and motivation to be the best he could be this year, Patriots fans everywhere say "THANKS ROG!!!"............................hugs and kisses...............................

Alright Butch (Wayne)..we missed it the last few years, butcher bowl IV is on if you're game?? your pick as the visitor as usual, same odds.

As I predicted, the Falcons blew out the Pack. Crushed them. It was 24 to 0 at half. You can parse it all you like, but when a team gets whooped up, they get whooped, and the Packers got whooped.

Oh, and thanks for the advice, but I am definitely enjoying it. No worries. Duh!

Huge point on zone defense. Brady carves it against every team who plays it. It has always been successful for the STeelers due to "Blitzburgh" and strong corners. We are down on one corner and the Pats line absolutely stoned our blitz 90% of the time. We really miss Matavius Bryant I hate to say it as well as Wheaton. Eli Rodgers did an ok job for him, but Coates is not Bryant. George, I believe you hit the nail on the head on our weakness and so did your Pats!

Good luck in the big one, I hope you get tix, I bet it will be a blast!
Tom

Gents,

Could not believe the melt down on the Packers. Holy Schmolly and it all came to a head when Aaron Rodgers pulled the helmet right off Alford. BTW, loved the Ginobili flop afterwards!!! Now that's frustration.

The Pats on Pittsburg...cold blooded play by the Pats...Wow!

George if you come to the Superbowl in Houston I hope you visit with Mike Miller who has a VIP suite at the game. Cost? $257K...yes MM is a high roller. I'm kidding of course, but would not put it past MM.

Who will win? Dunno, but I always root for the underdog.

You nailed it; zone defense is predicated on timely blitzes and also strong corners, if you don't have either, man to man with safety help over the top is the way to go.

Miss Tiffany told me last night the tickets and the flights are the easy part, the difficult part is hotel rooms, not looking good at this point, she's amazed at how many are sold out and overbooked. She said if it was Cowboys/Patriots, forget it, but Falcons/Patriots, she may be able to make it work.

And the last thing I want is a.) Staying 200 miles away from the stadium or worse yet, b.) Staying in some dump disguised as a decent hotel.

We'll see...................

The Pittsburgh DC should have been fired at halftime and executed by firing squad by the end of the third quarter. The Steeler coaches got schooled and Big Bill didn't even have to steal their play book. A blind man could have thrown for 300 yards and 10 TDs when the "zone" defense leaves a receiver uncovered on every play. And what was with the Steelers trying to run inside the five and getting stuffed and then doing it again and again? Two evenly matched teams but with a huge coaching advantage for the Pats.

I certainly wish I had an answer. I swear it was like the DC and OC were just plain stuck in stubbornness. End of day, like I said before, The Pats out thunk and outplayed them when it mattered.

Coaching didn't have much to do with Sammie Coates dropping everything thrown near him. Jeez, I mean Matavius Bryant he isn't that is for sure. You would think Coates is the one who smokes too much dope instead of Bryant with the constant dropsies he has. Reminds me of Limas Sweed, fast as a gazelle, but remember what happened to him in the Burgh? He dropped several passes to eliminate the Steelers from contention and he became a "retired" player after a few years in the league. They blamed injury but he dropped a few too many Big Ben TD's if you ask me, his last stop was the CFL where he didn't make it either.

Again, great season overall, but another head-shaker of what could have been. That said, I again believe the Pats to be virtually unstoppable and take nothing away from their seemingly never-ending supply of answers and great plays.

Love this. The more folks presume the Falcons aren't in the same league as the Seahawks, Packers and now Pats, the better.

I don't disagree with that point, it is sometimes good to be the underdog with the Pats having the feeling of supremacy. BUT and this is a big one - Coaches matter and right now, the combination of Head Coach, OC and DC up in New England is something else, they have the "juju" so to speak right now. 2 weeks will be an eternity as they say, Good Luck to both.
