NFL Season 2016-17 (1 Viewer)

I don't agree but maybe we can discuss this the day our teams face off in a similar game, be it baseball or football.

Brad:

That sounds like a good idea. As my feelings on the subject are personal and not quantatative I enjoy hearing others opinions on the subject.

Congrats to the best team as I stated earlier, that being the Pats, might not George on here for awhile as I'm sure this party is going to last for sometime!!:) great game, and my Ribs were outstanding!!

On to the draft party and 2017!!! shutting the door on this NFL season and getting ready for that first pitch of Grapefruit league!!!

I just saw Dan Quinn on the post game show, and while I can't blame him, all he gave you was platitudes. He must be seething inside.

That sack and offensive holding call on Atlanta when they were in FG range killed them.Al

Yup; play of the game Al. It was first down on the 20 after the tremendous catch by Jones, a field goal there and it's all she wrote.

Just got home..............................condolences to Rutledge, he's been classy throughout all of this.

Not gonna lie; down 28-3, I thought it was over.

Frankly, it should have been over.

I think Atlanta's young defense just ran out of gas.

In the first half, they were all over Brady, his receivers were blanketed, they played great, they ran out of gas in the second half defensively.

Two biggest plays of the game was the strip sack and fumble recovery when the Patriots were down 28-12, they punched it in and were down 28-20.

On that play, it was 3rd and 1; they got too cute there, just either run the ball to get the first down or throw a quick pass, looked like they were going for a home run ball there and they got burned.

Second biggest play was the sack and holding call on 2nd down after they had the ball on the 20; if they get a field goal there, game over.

Oh; and the Edelman catch.................................TYREE CAN KISS THE FATTEST PART OF MY @SS!!

Brady threw for 466 yards, his 5th Super Bowl, his fifth Super Bowl MVP.

There is no argument, as in none..............HE'S THE G.O.A.T.

Period.

End of story.

That was by far the most incredible game I've ever seen.

Wow.

I am spent, but I'll be up all night watching the highlights.

Going to enjoy this one for a long, long time.

Unbelievable.

The Goodell trophy hand off was sweet, sweet, sweet....................................so sweet.

Revenge really is a dish best served cold fellas.

Thanks for the congrats fellas and again, sorry Rutlege, but fear not, this is just the beginning for your team, they'll learn from this and be better next year for it.

Unbelievable night
Proves u gotta believe
I knew when they score tying td I told
the boys they get the ball in overtime
and they score a touchdown
prediction was right SUPER 5
BRADY AND THE BOYS

I thought I was goner too. The Pats made two, 2-point conversions too. I thought that was impressive. That missed extra point almost made me cry.

Too many emotions, all of them bad, for me to comment at length right now. I do appreciate the condolences and other nice expressions.

It was a true heartbreaker for this city, exceeding all other near misses in terms of championships.

We didn't and don't deserve this kind of agony, again, (see my previous post), but it happened. It will be a long time before I become emotionally involved with another pro sports team. A bad use of my energy and sucking away my joie de vivre.

That was one for the ages. Brady and Bill should put a bow on it and walk off into the sunset. Go out on top. That game exemplified the difference between a championship team and a good team. The Pats simply went into another gear and refused to lose. Atlanta caved. A soul-crushing, franchise destroying historic choke job down the stretch that will haunt that team forever. The sight of their owner rushing down to the field for his trophy was hilarious as things fell apart. His wife kept looking at him like "what have you done you numbskull, there is no place to hide down here." I give Big Bill credit for kicking that FG when the Pats were down 19 in the 4th quarter. A lot of coaches probably figure it is over unless the Pats get a TD in that situation and walk away with no points. The Falcons D held their own for three quarters but the TOP and number of plays was brutal against them even when they were up 28-9. They eventually got tired and gave up once Brady got hot. And they blew it big time after that onside kick and later in the game after that big Jones catch when they had a chance to ice it and came away with nothing.

My condolences. This kind of loss leaves a mark that will last for a long time. We all love out teams and a loss like this is a special kind of agony. Believe me, I know. I still haven't forgotten SB III, the upset of all upsets. Fans just have to swallow the pain and believe in next year. -- Al

I have nothing to add, but.....

WOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I can't believe this! Immediately following the game, there were reports of deflated balls. The officials on the field did a preliminary investigation and discovered they belong to Roger Goodell!!!!! {sm3}

People who aren't into sports miss the joy of winning, but they avoid the sorrow of losing, it's a double edged sword.

Went to bed about 5:00AM, up now around 9:22AM EST, who needs sleep.

I called my Dad this morning, the first thing he said to me was " The game that shall not be mentioned has been avenged................."...........so true, the demons of that game (and you all know what game I am referring to) died forever last night.

The next thing he said was "And Deflategate is over too, dead and buried, Goodell ate crow last night, the league ate crow last night, the other 31 owners ate crow last night, time to put it to bed, it's over and done with"...............amen to that.

After the Red Sox won the WS in 2004, I said nothing they'll ever do will top that and I stand by that; two more championships is nice, but nothing will ever top it.

After the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2002, I said the same thing; the proved me wrong twice, 2014 was tremendous, but this one.................wow, where do I begin, it will live forever in Boston sports lore, Brady and Belichick both got their fifth, leaving no doubt who the greatest QB and coach of all time are (although for me, Lombardi is still the man).

They're now tied with SF and Dallas for second most wins with 5; Pittsburg has six.

For me that was the 1988 Mets: too much time and energy invested, only to be massively disappointed. Never again. Although I enjoy and watch sports and still live and die with the Mets, it won't approach anything like 1988.

Unfortunately, as for me, this will be one that as a fan you will rue forever. Time does heal all wounds, to a certain extent. Keep the chin up mate :smile2:

Congrats to Warrior/George on his team's epic win. He's conducted himself with class, before and after the game, and that says a lot about him as a person. To the gloaters, well, that behavior is what it is.

This game will hold a singular place in NFL SB history. Lots of firsts. The Falcons played their guts out, but couldn't seal the deal.

I won't make predictions about next year or thereafter. Suffice it to say I think no one knows what the future holds, and any prognostications are worth exactly what they cost. What we know about the present is that Atlanta is a young team with a young Head Coach, a QB just hitting his stride and loads of potential.

As they say in the military, no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy. Quinn and Co must not dwell on regret, but regroup and strive to make the team better. I believe they can and will do that. Character isn't revealed when good things happen. Its true shows through when difficulty is encountered.

A bad loss can actually be a motivator, not a destroyer, if leaders are truly leaders. There is nothing written in stone about what happens after an organization suffers a devastating defeat. Those who know military history understand this.

The good news is Atlanta the city is a great place regardless of its pro sports teams. We are growing leaps and bounds. We are constantly remaking ourselves to be better, fresher and efficient. People continue to move here in droves because of the incredible employment and business opportunities. That sucking sound you hear is not the Falcons. It's people leaving their economically stagnant homes for the vibrancy that is my great city.

Atlantans shall persevere. We rebuilt ourselves from the ground up after Sherman burned us to the ground, shaking off despair in favor of optimism. We are not a perfect place but we are only made stronger by naysayers and setbacks.

Two new fantastic professional stadiums open up in Atlanta next year. Like our symbol the Phoenix, Altanta will rise from the ashes and move inexorably toward a more glorious future with unbridled and unceasing optimism. Perhaps the best reason these things happen to us is we handle them better than other places. Whatever, we remain undeterred in the belief in ourselves, and certain of a brigher future that springs from our own indomitable spirit.

Rise Up, we shall!

I can understand the angst over sports havng lost perspective from time to time. But the reality is that it makes little or no difference in the course of human affairs or our lives what the outcomes of any sporting event are. It is just a means to pass the time. The players on the Atlanta and New England teams are no more indicative of the communities they play in than any other group of random inviduals put together for a limited duration. Almost none of those players are from those communities or have any prior connection to them other than playing football there. Next year there will be a whole bunch of new guys on these teams. Why any individual cares about whether one random group defeats another and feels better or worse about themselves because they are wearing a particular uniform is a bit of a human mystery. But it sells a lot of beer and hamburgers and is generally harmless. So onto next season and may my Rams prove victorious.:wink2:

Tough to blow a 25 point lead and expect to win, but that is what Brady does to everyone. That sack and offensive holding call on Atlanta when they were in FG range killed them. It has been a typical New England Super Bowl barnburner. -- Al

Yes, without that piece of poor play calling on Atlanta's part, even the great Belichick and Brady couldn't have completed the comeback. Who in the world drops back to pass when you have second and 9 at the 23 yard line, in range for a game clinching field goal that puts you up 11 points with 3 minutes or less to go (depending on it the Patriots choose to use their time outs)?

But give credit where credit is due, Bill Belichick once again made all the half time adjustments, and Atlanta only scored 7 points in the second half, while the Patriots scored 32 unanswered points. In my humble opinion, even though Lombardi won 6 of 7 championship games he appeared in (the last two being Super Bowls), Belichick is clearly the greatest coach of the Super Bowl era, possibly of all time. Brady has now established himself as the greatest QB of the Super Bowl era (I still think Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas are as great from the pre-Super Bowl era). Now the only question left is who is more important to the Patriots success, Belichick or Brady?

Congratulations George! But remember, only my Giants have blemished your otherwise perfect record in Super Bowls!
